Well True Blood fans – we are four days away from season 3 of True Blood!! The anticipation is out of this universe! One of the things we are all most excited about is the introduction of werewolf, Alcide Herveaux, portrayed by Joe Maganiello.
In order to prepare for the part Joe had to bulk himself up so he would be able to bring the character of Alcide to life.
“Vampires can get away with having very slight builds and the audience will still believe that they’re super powerful. Werewolves are animals and in my mind they should be very muscular. Not an extra ounce of fat on them. Really ripped. I wanted people to look at Alcide and think, ‘wow, he’s a super strong animal.'”
Joe also had to work on a nice tan for the part because this is a huge element that sets the werewolves apart from the pale vampires. Plus werewolves are known for their raging heated temperatures. Joe also put in so much work into looking the part because he wanted to create the vision of Alcide that Charlaine Harris had written about in the book series. Charlaine described Alcide as being a giant and having big arms and a muscular physique.
The actor was a little bit ahead of the power curve because he has a long family history of giant athletes. Joe explains:
“My mom is half Austrian and comes from a long line of giant athletes. I remember my mom doing double bicep flexes and her arms were just ripped. She had like Madonna arms. She would flex and say, “that’s where you get it kid.” So I have my mother to thank.”
Well we would like to thank his mom as well for helping to give the world the perfect ‘Alcide Herveaux‘. Catch the season premiere of True Blood in only 4 days, Sunday June 13th!

I’ve just read an article online about Joe’s workout regimen…Whoa! It seems like a tough, grueling program! I give guys like Joe and Ryan Kwanten a Lot of credit for working So hard to build up their bodies and get in shape!! It takes a Lot of hard work and dedication to get buff like that!! I dont know if I could maintain that!! LOL
Joe Also worked with the same personal trainer that Hugh Jackman used to get in that muscular shape for X-Men Wolverine!
It’s Not about getting a “killer bod” moreso about learning to maintain optimum health and personal fitness…It should be a way of life and not just a “diet”.
Ok Im starting to sound like an Info-mercial!! LOL
Anyway I’m glad for Joe I’m sure he will make Some Bad-Ass Werewolf!! 🙂
