VIDEO: Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer Open House Trailer

Our True Blood dynamic duo of Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer are at it again, but on the big screen this time. Anna Paquin’s brother, Andrew Paquin, just had his directorial debut film, “Open House“, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.  The movie stars his sister, Anna, along with our own Stephen Moyer. Alongside them is also the talented Brian Geraghty (Hurt Locker), Rachel Blanchard, and Tricia Helfer.  Typically a lot of films premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival never see a big American release but that will not be the case with “Open House”. Grindstone Entertainment has picked up the film distribution rights for the movie and will be releasing the film in August.

Rachel Blanchard plays a woman whose home has been taken over by a sadistic couple, played by Brian Geraghty and Tricia Helfer.  The story is mainly told through Geraghty’s point of view. He plays a character who can kill people without blinking an eye but is trapped under the thumb of his malicious partner.  Geraghty’s performance in the film has already been given some amazing reviews.  Many critics believe his work in the “Hurt Locker” was overshadowed by his castmates, Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie, and “Open House” will finally get him the attention he deserves!  We know the film will also promote the two big names of Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, especially due to their increased popularity and fan following due to their amazing performances on True Blood.  To get a small taste of Andrew Paquin’s “Open House” check out the trailer below. Enjoy!

Interview with Andrew Paquin about his Film “Open House”

Andrew Paquin was interviewed at the Tribeca Film Festival about a new movie he directed, “Open House.” His movie is a suspense about a woman who is trying to sell her home and hosts an open house when a killer slips in, holding her and the other house guests hostage with the help of his female partner. Andrew’s sister, Anna Paquin, and her fiance, Stephen Moyer — stars of HBO’s “True Blood” — also appear in the film.

The interviewer asks Andrew about coming to the Tribeca Film Festival as a director, since he is more experienced in serving as a producer.  Andrew talks about how much more personal this visit is, since it really has his creativity on display.

Open House” was shot in his home and Andrew comments about how his house was trashed during the making of the film. No worries though; it’s all clean now! He discusses two of the main characters, David and Lila, who are played by Brian Geraghty and Tricia Helfer, in detail. David and Lila are the murderers who attack the house guests. The relationship between David and Lila will have an impact on viewers who can relate to having bad or challenging things happen in their own lives.

Andrew was asked about what it was like directing so many talented actors, including his sister and future brother-in-law. One sexual scene features Stephen Moyer, but not Anna Paquin. When asked how he was able to shoot that scene, Andrew said,

“They weren’t on set …  They didn’t share any scenes, Anna and Steve.  But we were lucky to have them in our film because they were actually shooting “True Blood” at the same time.  So, Steve was kind enough to be in the movie and that was really the only role that made sense for him to play… there’s also not that many parts in the movie. It’s a fairly small cast. So, you know, it’s just, it’s acting, isn’t it? “

Andrew also gave some great advice about being really be aware of who your audience is. He states that so many decisions are narrowed down by thinking about who is going to watch, buy and talk about the movie. The interview ended when the reporter congratulated Andrew on his new role — being a parent. When asked what was more challenging,  the role of a father or fathering a film, Andrew said,

“Well, my science is a little shaky, but the actual fathering process is not that tricky (Laughing).  I think the parenting … I’m sure, the parenting process is probably as challenging, if not more so, I would imagine, but I’m fairly new to that.”

Andrew Paquin Interviewed about Open House

With the Tribeca Film Festival currently going on in New York, Andrew Paquin speaks about his directorial debut, Open House. Thanks to his True Blood connection (namely, his sister and future brother-in-law being the stars), Andrew’s film features Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer in cameo roles. The cast also includes the very talented Brian Geraghty from The Hurt Locker and Battlestar Galactica‘s Tricia Helfer.

Andrew described in an interview how he came up with the concept for the movie and what he learned from his first filmmaking experience. Open House is a psychological thriller about a woman trying to sell her house, when one of the prospective buyers hides out in the basement and takes her captive at night. Andrew explains that the point of the film was to alter horror conventions:

“The first act of our film could be a standard home invasion horror, [but] I wanted to find out what would happen if you turned that kind of a construct on its head. Instead of the monsters wear[ing] a mask through the whole movie, what happens if you de-mask the monsters much earlier and you end up seeing the world through their eyes?”

Recounting the story of how Brian Geraghty came to play the role of David, Andrew calls it “crazy good luck with casting.” He also describes the filmmaking process as a great opportunity for active collaboration:

“You have to guide people with a clear vision, but I think more than anything you have to simply understand how to enable people who really know what they’re doing in an expert kind of way.”

Because they filmed Open House in only one location–Andrew’s own home–the movie has a definite sense of claustrophobia throughout. Andrew says he and his production team looked at other films that were shot primarily indoors, including Alan Ball’s Academy Award-winning American Beauty, to see how to keep the setting visually interesting.

Reviews from those who have seen screenings of Open House this week are largely positive, praising the performances and the change of perspective from the victim to the predator. For these reasons, and for the scenes with Anna and StephenTrue Blood fans should keep an eye out for when it becomes widely available to see!

Andrew Paquin Speaks about His Sister Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer

Andrew Paquin recently spoke about his latest movie “Open House” starring his sister, Anna Paquin and her True Blood co-star and fiancé Stephen Moyer along with discussion about the couple’s engagement.

Andrew explained recently to People Magazine that his psychological thriller, “Open House“, was filmed in his own home and he had a great time directing his sister, even though at times he found himself a little nervous. Despite being siblings and being the older brother, Andrew was nervous because “she’s such a good actress” and the fact that he only had two days to work with her in his directorial debut.

“We only had two days together and it was my first time directing and I wanted to do a good job. But she made my life pretty easy as a director. She knows her lines perfectly and she understands her character.”

Andrew noticed something special between the two before Anna and Stephen announced their engagement.

“They have amazing chemistry together on and off the screen. There’s something special going on, and they understand and respect each other.”

As to what Andrew thinks of his little sister marrying Stephen?  He completely approves and thinks that Stephen will be “an amazing husband to Anna and a great brother-in-law”as the two have actually become close friends.

“She’s in very good hands,” says Andrew. “Steve’s a lovely man and a really great guy. He’s become a very good friend. Everything is great and I’m really happy for them.”

As Andrew said, he know that they love each other very much and are kind and good to each other which is very important.

Below is a series of photos of Andrew from the Tribeca Film Festival 2010 portrait studio at the FilmMaker Industry Press Center on April 25, 2010 in New York City.
