True Blood’s Craziest Sex Techniques

True Blood’s Crazy Sex Scenes:

There are plenty of reasons for fans to love True Blood, but there is one that makes us keep coming back for more. The outrageous sex scenes and frequent nudity the vampire series throws at viewers, while are great for vampires, aren’t meant for mere mortals. Let’s take a trip down memory lane to see the top 8 sex scenes fans at home shouldn’t do.

December-May Relationship?

1. What do you (a sexy a affluent older woman) do when a naked teenager is robbing your house? Call the police? Throw something at him? In Maryann’s case when she catches Sam in her home grabbing at her belongings, the logical thing for her to do is to sleep with him. No home burglary should end with sexy time, especially when the burglar (like Sam) is 17! In real life, Maryann would probably lose her valuables and her freedom when she’s charged with statutory rape.

Gives Playing in the Dirt a New Meaning

2. One of the earliest scenes that told fans True Blood wasn’t your average brooding vampire show was the sex scene between Bill and Sookie in the dirt. Remember that one? Sookie thinks Bill’s dead and goes to his grave with flowers and finds Bill is alive. Rather than spend time frightened at the fact her boyfriend has jumped out of the ground like a zombie, they instead celebrate their reunion by rolling around in the dirt. Now as hot as this scene was, in the back of our heads we’re all thinking the same thing: how unsanitary. In the end this little sex frolic will cost mortals cuts and scrapes, UTI’s, and trouble with the law for public indecency.

All  Night Long

3. If you saw the pre-webisodes that got fans ready for Season 3, then you know everyone wanted a piece of the newest dancer Yvetta. This beautiful woman caught the eye of Eric Northman and her new job came with a lot of perks. Such as? Well, though fans only catch the end tail of their sex session, Eric prides himself in telling Sookie that he’s been with Yvetta for hours upon hours. Great for Eric, but what about Yvetta? For this mortal, she’s going to have to deal with dehydration, muscle cramps, and painful chafing. None of this sounds very attractive. As hot as Eric is, do we really want to endure that much uncomfortableness?

Hard to Watch

4. The worse thing about the sex scenes between Tara and Franklin was that it was clearly rape; Franklin was crazy and kidnapped Tara, forcing her to join him against her will. If this had been consensual, then the worst moment between their lovemaking would have to be Tara’s love bite. While we understand Tara’s motives, the way she tore into Franklin’s flesh was far from sexy and fans may not want to try it at home. Aside from being a mood killer, there’s danger of bleeding out, scarring, and choking on your partner’s blood.

Bloody Hell

5. Once again, Bill finds himself in a mess; it seems this Southern gentleman likes to have dirty sex. First we see him with Sookie in the dirt and then we see him with Lorena in a bed soaked in blood and two bodies they’ve just drained. Lorena and Bill make friends with a 1920s couple, seduce them, kill the man and bite the girl only to then have sex, while the girl bleeds out underneath them. Aside from getting a blood born disease, you’ll have crippling guilt over your monstrous actions while you’re behind bars, since you’ll be arrested soon after your pleasure act.

Getting Pinned

6. Something tells fans that sex with Eric will always be complicated. Talbot sure found that out the hard way. Everyone it seems, but Talbot and Russell, knew Eric’s interest in them was a little suspicious. So when Eric volunteers to keep Talbot company, fans all uttered uh oh at the same time. While we all knew Eric would stake Talbot while taking him from behind, we do wish it hadn’t ended so abruptly. For this sex scene, your looking at some tough fabric stains, but not to worry depending on your role in the act you’ll either be arrested or dead.

Another No-No

7. While sex between Tara and Sam is pretty tamed compared to what’s going on around them, it’s still a big no no. The emotions behind it have always been loneliness and grief, which are not very sexy. The worst part is that Sam is Tara’s boss and it’s always a bad idea to sleep with your boss. Add to it that both Sam and Tara have issues with alcohol, sex between them will only cause feelings of unease the next day as well as unemployment, a sexual harassment suit, and cirrhosis.

Twisted Indeed

8. When Bill and Lorena are together, logic and calm are thrown out the window and fans are sucked into crazy town. When Bill is enraged after realizing that Lorena’s meddling may cause him to never see Sookie ever again, Bill expresses his anger by having sex with her. Wait, what? Disgusted with her face, Bill twists Lorena’s head 180 degrees and continues to sexually release his anger. Hazard? We’ll let you figure that one out.

There are plenty of crazy sex scenes on the HBO series; it makes a great excuse to re-watch all three seasons with friends and discover all the sex scenes (while hot) would be hazardous to the mere mortal.

EXCLUSIVE: True Blood Bill and Sookie Sketch by Steven E. Gordon

Steven E. Gordon, an amazing animator and director who worked on the Emmy Award winning X-Men: Evolution and on the recently cancelled Wolverine and the X-Men, has been using his Twitter account to reach fans in several ways. One of them is to do a ‘Fan Request Friday‘ in which fans can request that Steven draw characters from anything and everything. After Steven chooses the suggestions he likes, he posts the sketches on his blog.

On August 22, I checked out Steven’s newest sketches, and to my thrill and surprise, my suggestion of Bill and Sookie was one of the pieces up on the blog! I was doubly thrilled by this because the day before was when Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin got married! It was perfect timing, and the sketch is wonderful!

Enjoy Steven’s amazing work!

To check out more of Steven’s awesome art, check out his blog!

Also, a huge thank you to Steven E. Gordon for allowing TrueBloodNet.com to post his sketch on our site!

Looking Back at Stephen Moyer in Perfect

Stephen MoyerEver wonder what the cast of True Blood was up to before they joined the HBO series? What kind of movies and television shows were the cast members involved in or, more specifically, what was Stephen Moyer doing before he became Bill Compton?

The Women Film Festival in London is taking True Blood fans back in time with a short featuring Stephen. On Thursday September 9th from 1:30-4:30, the festival has programmed back to back viewings of various shorts directed by women.

On the list is Perfect, an award winning 14 minute horror short featuring Stephen Moyer before he had fangs, before he had the lovely Anna Paquin on his arm, and long before he was a household name.

Along with Perfect, other shorts being played that day include: Lutz Heckelman und sein bier. Directed by Julianne Block (Germany), The Storymaker directed by Emma Rozanski (Australia), Breathe directed by Emma Passmore (UK), Entlaufen directed by Nina Pfeiferberger (Germany), 15 Seconds directed by Jessica Townsend (UK), Apparition directed by Sabina Vajraca (US), Short lease directed by Jennifer Eiss and Prano Bailey-Bond (UK) as well as the documentaries ‘Ladyfilmine’ directed by Giulia Vallicelli (Italy) and ‘Music …by Gabriel Yared’ directed by Rani Khanna.

For a single day ( which includes 1 workshop and 3 sessions of screenings from approx 10.30am – 7pm and  does not include access to the evening screening, Q&A or closing awards ceremony) members pay £35 and nonmembers pay £45. For workshops the member’s price is £20 and the non-member’s price is £25 If you simply want to pop in and enjoy a screening prices range between £5 and £14. For those of you interested in the screening that includes the short Perfect, members pay £8 and non member pay £10. If you want to see Perfect or any of the screenings, you’ll have to purchase your tickets sooner rather than later; tickets are selling fast!

The festival and fd4w is dedicated to making real contributions to the movement that demands 50% of films be directed by women. Founder Ruth Torjussen is not only a writer and director of her own shorts, but is also a teacher guiding women interested in directing. Co-coordinating the festival are Iria Estevez, a Spanish producer/director based in London, and Beatrice Ni Bhroin, who has worked in various film and TV production roles.

Stephen before he was Bill…I think fans will be pleasantly surprised. Even when he was an unknown actor, he was still an amazing one.

True Blood Men Are Best Dressed At The Emmys

Alexander Skarsgard, Ryan Kwanten, Stephen MoyerThe Emmy’s Red Carpet brings the best fashion and the cast of True Blood was no exception. Interestingly enough three male cast members of the HBO hit series were given the honor of best dressed.

Nine men were singled out for their sharp style, but it’s number 4, 5, and 9 who True Blood fans are excited about. Stephen Moyer, Ryan Kwanten, and Alexander Skarsgard were praised for their sense of style.

Stephen Moyer, who plays Southern gentleman and vampire Bill Compton on True Blood, took the number 4 spot in Alexander McQueen. Posing with new wife Anna Paquin, Stephen enchanted fans at home not only with his good looks, but with his proper British accent.

In 5th place, Ryan Kwanten stood out in his slick look. Fans usually know Ryan as the undressed and sexy Jason Stackhouse. The Australian hottie didn’t bother to shave, but still managed to look amazing in his navy suit and cranberry colored tie.

At number 9, Alexander Skarsgard flew in from Europe the night before. The very tall Swede, despite the red eye flight, was glad to be at the awards ceremony; he joked that he didn’t mind being Anna and Stephen’s third wheel. He must be used to it, given that on the show he plays Eric Northman, the vampire vying for Sookie’s attention, which causes Bill more than a little frustration.

Others on the list included: Emmy host Jimmy Fallon in a navy blue Tom Ford tux who took the coveted number 1 spot,  number 2 Jon Hamm, Twilight dad Peter Facinelli took the 3rd spot in a crisp black suit and healthy tan, winner of the  Bob Hope Humanitarian Award George Clooney was at number 6 for his style and new haircut, Matthew Morrison, though he didn’t win  for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, did win the number 7 spot on the best dressed list, while number 8  went to Boris Kodjoe, the star of Undercovers.

Needless to say all the men at the Emmys left fans dreaming of being their red carpet dates.

True Blood Season 3 Spoiler Clip: Bill and Sookie Housekeeping

HBO has released a spoiler clip from this Sunday’s airing of Episode 9: “Everything Is Broken” featuring Bill and Sookie cleaning up the mess left behind by the werewolves.  It is a very cute clip looking at the Bill and Sookie doing things that a normal couple don’t do.   Enjoy!

Once again many thanks to BLT & Associates and HBO for sending this video to us!

Comparing True Blood’s Bill Compton with Mad Men’s Don Draper

In modern tv, many characters are very flawed, though sometimes redeemable. Rogers Spotlight decided to compare two different characters; Bill Compton from True Blood and Don Draper from Mad Men. The question is, who has screwed up their life more?

Vampire Bill, as he is fondly known, has a long and dark past. He was a simple soldier during the Civil War who fought for the South. However, on his journey home from war, he was waylaid and turned into a vampire by a woman named Lorena. That led to Bill and Lorena joining up for a century or so and leaving a trail of mayhem in their tracks.

The reason for all of this? Lorena was lonely and wanted a companion. Before she released Bill, Lorena definitely got what she wanted. However, the outcome on Bill‘s side shows that even vampires can have some humanity. After escaping from Lorena, Bill eventually made his way to Bon Temps and fell for telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse.

That relationship hasn’t been the easiest for Bill either. He loves Sookie, but he’s a vampire, and he definitely has vampire tendencies. Bill loves, but he also lusts, rages, and needs to consume blood to continue his existence. That can be dangerous for a vampire with a human girlfriend. At least Bill is trying to be more than just a vampire.

What about Don Draper? Well, Don Draper started out as Dick Whitman. However, his change came from switching his dogtags with those of a fallen soldier while he was fighting in Korea. Prior to that, Dick Whitman was the child of a drunk and a prostitute who died giving birth to him.

Once he got through the war, Don Draper came back to America and became a successful businessman. However, that too has come with some problems. Don had to deal with the loss of his younger brother, Adam, who committed suicide. Don also lost his wife once she discovered the truth about him.

Life hasn’t gotten much better for Don. He’s now dealing with a growing addiction to alcohol and women, as well as being vain, self-absorbed, and uncaring of anyone’s suffering but his own.

The final outcome of Rogers Spotlight‘s question about who the bigger screw-up is between Bill Compton and Don Draper is that Don Draper is the bigger screw-up. The reason? Bill Compton is striving to be more than just a vampire. He’s trying to be a better guy, even though he doesn’t always succeed. Don Draper, however, is not. He’s still in denial over being Dick Whitman and fitting that persona into the “container” that is the Don Draper identity.

True Blood On and Off the Set With Alex, Stephen and Anna

On True Blood Sookie, Bill, and Eric have a strange love triangle that keep the fans guessing. In real life, Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgard have formed a strong friendship that surpasses the show. Whether they are in interviews or posing for photos, the camaraderie between them is always easy to see.

In real life, Anna is engaged to Stephen and has recently announced in a public announcement for gay and lesbian rights, that she is bisexual. She’s been working hard on the set of True Blood and reveals that she hasn’t heard the reaction to her announcement. She remarks,

“At some point, I have to step outside of my bubble and go on vacation. But I am not really interested in what people have to say about that particularly.”

She may not have noticed people talking her sexuality, but she has noticed the attention she is getting for her blond hair that has them talking. A natural brunette, Anna dyed her hair blond in order to portray Sookie. She says that boys do look at her more; being blond and perky seems to grab people’s attention.

Aside from playing the blond bombshell, Anna also worked with Stephen and her brother Andrew on the film Open House. Both she and Stephen thought Andrew‘s script was wonderful and wanted to work with him. They were able to find a few days to shoot, but haven’t been able to see the film due to their busy schedules. Anna thinks her brother is a wonderful director and definitely has a future in film making.

For Stephen, the loves scenes between Bill and Sookie are an added bonus to his job, but of course he states that it could get a little uncomfortable when Sookie has a love scene with Eric. Stephen insists that he is very close with Alex and understands that Alex has it tough when it comes to the scenes he does with Anna, the same way Sam Trammell found it tough in Season 1. To help, Stephen is scarce during those scenes. They all have a great respect and love for one another. In end, Stephen understands that it’s part of the job and he wants Alex and Anna to do the best possible job they can do.

Furthermore, Stephen himself has had to do sexual scenes with other women in Season 3. Such intimate scenes are raw and will always hit one’s partner, whether they’re on the show or not, right in the gut. In the end, Anna and Stephen both understand the difference between their love and what they do for the show.

When asked about Bill’s lust and hunger, Stephen (the father of two) counters with

“I can answer that by first talking about the FCC (Federal Communications Commission). It seems fine in our culture to watch Jack Bauer kill 25 terrorists at 9 o’clock (in the evening on US television). As soon as it goes one minute past 9, we’re allowed to watch that happen but we can’t look at a female nipple. I don’t want that whole kind of covering up thing and feeling repressed about sex, whether you’re a 14, 15, 16 year old kid, male or female, and not being able to talk about it. I would hate for my kids to feel like that. I’d love to be able to think the show has made me more aware of that and it has made me think more that if my kids come to me, I will try and answer them in the best possible way and not in a way where I pretend it doesn’t exist.”

Like Stephen, Alex doesn’t seem bothered by nudity or more intimate scenes. If anything, he welcomes the chance to develop a character, rather than be seen as simply eye-candy.

Alex is the son of Swedish actor Stellan Skarskard. Though some may be intimidated by his good looks, he is down to earth with a wonderful sense of humor. After the interview he was leaving for his native Sweden, where he’s been named the sexiest man. Alex remarks on his sex symbol status:

“It’s not like I wasn’t happy about it (laughing). Dude, I was flattered. I wasn’t like “Oh, really – again?” I’m only human in real life. The thing I didn’t like in Sweden was that it became the focus. Because I was voted the sexiest man in Sweden a couple of times, the roles that came in were the young hot guy. I wanted to do something that was more interesting than that. I didn’t get offers to play characters like Brad Colbert in “Generation Kill” or Eric in “True Blood” in Sweden. I wasn’t looking for the pretty boy parts.”

He doesn’t play a pretty boy, but he does play a sexy vampire. Fans seem to be split over who is the sexier vampire: Eric or Bill. Alex notes that he loves Stephen and he has no ill will against any of the fans. In fact, there is a competition going on; if team Bill wins, Alex has to wear a shirt they design and if team Eric wins, Stephen has to wear a shirt they design. All of it is for charity and, hopefully, everyone will have fun doing it.

Though Alex wouldn’t confirm or deny a gay love scene coming up, he did talk about keeping a straight face during some of the more surreal or bizarre scenes on True Blood. He remarks,

“On the night that we go to the Golden Globes, someone always has to work the following morning. The morning after the big event…my call time was like 5:30. We had a great night and we had so much fun with the whole cast and crew. We were drinking and having a good time.I was a little tired when I woke up and went to work. It was the day we shot … I don’t know if you’ve seen Episode 302 where we’re dressed up as Nazi soldiers and we come down from the ceiling. Allan (Hyde) and I had this moment where we were hanging on wires in the ceiling, dressed in these Nazi uniforms and you have these fangs on, just hanging and waiting for the take. You hang there for like 10 minutes and then you come down. That was one of those moments where Allan and I just looked at each other. We were like, “Pretty crazy job we’ve got (laughing).”

On the set, Bill, Sookie and Eric are wrapped up in a mess of things and their relationship with each other is more than a little strained. However, when the cameras are off Stephen, Anna and Alex are only wrapped up in love and laughter with each other. The stronger the friendships off camera, the better bond and easier it is to trust one another in those intense scenes True Blood is known for.

True Blood’s Stephen Moyer Talks About Fame

Stephen Moyer has been an actor for many years, but only recently has he truly broken into the type of fame that includes paparazzi snapping photos of him out and about. And Stephen prefers that fame occurred for him in this order. He’s grateful that he’s not young and famous.

Stephen has been asked several times about whether or not he feels any competition between himself and Robert Pattinson, who plays a vampire in the Twilight series. He does not. However, Stephen has a great deal of respect for what Robert, who is 24, has to deal with. Stephen said:

I would have been floating upside down in a canal if I was [famous at] Pattinson’s age. I wouldn’t have made it. I wish him the best of luck with that.

Fame can be a scary thing, especially when one is young and not capable of dealing with it. There are many examples to choose from in current media that make that very clear. It’s even worse dealing with fame in America (especially in Southern California) because actors are constantly hounded by the paparazzi and their private lives often get placed under a magnifying glass.  Thus contending with the perceptions that people have of them and intrusions into their private lives it is a very demanding career.

Stephen admits that until his agent gave him the True Blood script, he wanted to be a stage actor again. He felt that he didn’t need to make it in the United States to be happy. Luckily for us, though, Stephen changed his mind and became True Blood‘s Bill Compton. At least Stephen is at an age where he can deal with the fame, rather than a young actor who can easily be overwhelmed by it.

Mystery Reporter – Bill and Lorena – Love At First Bite?

As the editor of the Bon Temps Tattler I’m so excited to bring this tasty morsel to the readers of Truebloodnet.com:  An exclusive interview with the most controversial vampire “couple”, Bill Compton and Lorena Krasiki.    The source of this interview is…a mystery!

Dateline: Unknown

Checking my appearance one last time in the mirror and very pleased with my choice of wardrobe for this once in a lifetime opportunity, I await the arrival of the gruesome twosome.  A single knock at the door announced their arrival.

MR:  Mr. Compton, Lorena…thank you for joining me.  It’s so nice that you two could make it this evening for this exclusive interview.  It’s not often that I have had the pleasure to interview such a handsome couple, either living or dead.  May I ask why you decided to give me such a delightful honor?

BILL: You’re very welcome, Miss….uh, I’m sorry but I do not know your name.  I would hardly call us a couple, far from it, as far as I am concerned.  Lorena is my Maker.  That is the only connection I have to her.  As for why we chose The Bon Temps Tattler and yourself, that will have to remain Lorena and my little secret, but you will be sure to see to it that Truebloodnet receives it’s copy  of the Tattler?…It is my understanding that I have many admirers there [Flashes a charming smile, noticing her Sparkly “TEAM BILL” baby tee] And by the way, I do not sparkle in the sunlight.

LORENA: We are glad to make your acquaintance.  We are far from a first name basis, Darlin’, so you can call me Ms. Krasiki. I have waited a long time for this. William and I have not been around one another for 75 years. I am so glad to be here sitting with William once again. You ARE a lucky one, Darlin’, and by the looks of you, so delicious.

MR: Mr. Compton, I assure you, the pleasure is all mine, and yes, you have many who admire you here in Bon Temps, and I am on the top of that list. [looks Bill up and down as she hikes up her mini skirt, showing her inner thigh, then turns to Lorena with a smile]  As for you….Ms. Krasiki, I really must ask you, why Mr. Compton?  You could have had any man as your eternal child.  Why Mr. Compton, why Bill?  I have to admit he’s easy on the eyes but there must be something more to it than that?

LORENA: [looks over at William] “William, the human’s name isn’t important. [Sneers and turns back to the interviewer] The same reason you look at him with those eyes.  William was noble and a good southern gentleman. You could say he is one of a kind.  William was quite different from the others and when he came into my home, I knew right then and there I was going to make him mine.  There were few gentleman like my William.  His hunger was not what the other men came looking for…his hunger was for food.  Sooner or later William will realize that we belong together. [Glancing over at him then back to the interviewer]

BILL: I came to your doorstep out of desperation, Lorena.  It was the end of the end of the War.  I was cold and starving, not having eaten for days. When you took me in, I was grateful but I needed to return to my home to care for my family.  You took that all way for your own selfish reasons.  Had you really believed in my nobility, you would have let me go.

LORENA: I thought we put that all behind us William.  Your loyalty a century ago was to a wife and your children Now you try to be loyal to a ridiculous waitress and we both know that hasn’t been entirely true.  When you came in to my home, I fed you and saw something in you like no other.  I wanted you and to be mine and I was going to see what you really are.  You just never embraced our true nature.  I always told you that there’s our world and there is theirs.  You just keep clinging to humanity. One day you will see that the human world is no longer available to you.  I’ve always told you that.

BILL: As you can tell, Lorena and I do not see things eye to eye.  This argument has been going on for decades.  We continue to gnaw at it like a dog with his favorite bone.

MR: What a truly interesting beginning this is to a most controversial relationship.   Which brings me to my next question…We have yet to hear much about your children Mr. Compton.  I hear they passed.  Why was it you did not turn them to save them?  Why didn’t you turn your wife?

BILL: I did return to Bon Temps briefly a few years after I was turned against Lorena’s wishes.  Upon my arrival, I heard there was an epidemic of Small Pox that ravaged through Louisiana and had taken my youngest son. [Pauses briefly and dabs his eyes with a handkerchief]  I only meant to anonymously check in on my family to make sure that their welfare was secure, then I was discovered by my wife Caroline in her hour of mourning.  She told me that our daughter and eldest son were sent away to escape the sickness.  It was my understanding that they both survived and lived on to carry the Compton legacy.  It was never a possibility in my mind that I would ever have allowed them to suffer with the eternal darkness that I have endured for the past 174 years.

MR: [Sets a box of tissues on the table for Bill] No wonder you wanted to get away from her…you poor man.  She took everything away from you…..

BILL:  I am fine, thank you.  It is just difficult for me to talk about my family.

LORENA: I would watch what you say if I were you little girl.  I haven’t fed….yet [hisses]

MR: Mr. Compton, How has your decision to mainstream affected your relationship with Lorena?

BILL: My decision to mainstream came well after I severed ties with Lorena.  When the Great Revelation came to pass, I embraced my opportunity to come out of the shadows and live openly and freely as a vampire among humans.

LORENA: William, I don’t understand why you have to adapt to live among these humans.  You never adapted to your true nature. That sorry excuse for bottled blood that they are pedaling to us is vile and disgusting. How can you even drink that?  It doesn’t even taste like the real thing.

BILL: I would never expect you to understand, Lorena, but this is the new wave of the future for vampires if we want to continue to exist openly and publicly.  All you do is take, take, take…you are the one that is going to need to learn to adapt.

MR: What drove you to sever your ties from your maker?

BILL: As with any Vampire Maker/ Progeny relationship, like with a parent and child, the child must leave the nest eventually and go out on their own.  With Lorena, this was a difficult feat because she had a very strong hold on me.  I grew weary of the life we were leading, and to be blunt, of her.  [Looks to Lorena]  I just couldn’t be what you wanted of me.

LORENA: I made you and you are MINE. I will always be your maker no matter how hard you try to defy me.

MR: What affect has the telepathic waitress, Sookie Stackhouse, had on your relationship?  Do you find her to be a threat?

LORENA: A threat? [Laughs] To me?  Oh please!  I couldn’t be more insulted. She is a pathetic bag of flesh and I could just squash her like a bug, and I will, once I get my hands on her.  Besides, I don’t know what anyone sees in her anyway.  And what makes her so special?  If it weren’t for everyone trying to protect her she’d be six feet under and actually being of some use… as worm food.

BILL: [Growls and extends fangs]  If you harm one single hair on Sookie, Lorena, I will kill you myself.  That I can promise you!

LORENA: Oh William, you’re so sexy when your angry like that!  Your animalistic temper just makes me want you even more. [Fangs extend from arousal]

MR: Come on now, let’s get back to what we’re doing here I don’t any blood shed on my pretty baby tee [turns to Lorena with a smile] But you are right, he really is sexy when he’s angry.   And seeing how you two are acting towards each other here today, it makes me wonder Mr. Compton, Was there any time you ever did feel love for Lorena?

BILL: I wouldn’t call my feelings for Lorena as love.  I could never truly love someone as cold-hearted as her.  I have felt compassion and a degree of loyalty in the past, but that is not exactly a feeling as it is more of an instinct that is born within a vampire as one reveres their maker.

LORENA: You did love me once, William, I bet my life on it. [Touches her necklace] You made love to me and embraced those feelings once.  You will learn to love me again. No matter how much you try to push me away, I will always love you. William, you are mine.

MR: Ms. Krasiki, Why were the 20’s and 30’s your most favorite decades?

LORENA: Those were such times to remember…The beauty of being glamorous…The blood was flowing as much as jazz and booze were.  It was exciting going around and feeding on such tasty elegance. The hunt was much more exciting back then, when humans were oblivious to our true existence.  We were able to mingle freely; it was as if we were hiding in plain sight among them.  The fact that we were vampires was still hidden, as it still should be.  We were made to dominate humans and it was so much easier then because of their ignorance.

MR: Mr. Compton, Have you ever had any thoughts of turning Sookie?  And if so Ms. Krasiki, would you be willing to share him with her for eternity?

BILL: Absolutely not. The thought never crossed my mind until the King of Mississippi, Russell Edgington, asked me this question as well.  Sookie deserves to live a long, full life and I would not want to be the one who takes that from her, as I have had mine ripped out from me.  I could never bring myself to do that to another unless the duty was forced upon me, which it has.

LORENA: Share? [Laughs] What’s that common phrase? Oh yes, I skipped that day in Kindergarten.  Anyways, William wouldn’t turn his precious human.  He wouldn’t have it in him to turn any human much-less his precious little pet.  He didn’t do that when he was faced with the opportunity to do it with his beloved Caroline.

MR: Which brings me to my next question, we were informed you do have a child Mr. ComptonJessica. Where is your child Jessica in all this?  We have heard from our sources that you have left her alone to fend for her self…is any of this true?

BILL: It’s not like I left on my own accord.  I was taken by those filthy… [Shakes his head]  Jessica is a smart girl.  She can take care of herself and she knows where to buy Tru-Blood when she gets hungry.

LORENA: So the rumors are true! I am a Grandpire??  Oh, William! You’ve made me so proud. I seriously didn’t think you had it in you. I would love to meet this Jessica!  Oh the things I can teach her….

BILL: [Interrupts] Yes, I have a ward and you will have no part in the rearing of her, Lorena. I will make sure of that.

MR: Mr. Compton, what are your thoughts on The Sheriff of Area 5’s intentions for Sookie?  We hear that he has assigned her protection.

BILL: Eric’s intentions for Sookie are only for his own personal gain, nothing more.  Sookie would never willingly submit to his desires.  I do have faith in that, but I do not trust him.  If he has assigned her protection, I am grateful, though I know it was not as a favor to me.

LORENA: William, just let him have her.  I don’t know why you fret over her so much.  She is beneath you William.

BILL: NEVER!  Sookie is MINE!

LORENA: [Spoken in a whisper] Not for long…

MR: Which brings me to my next question:  How do you like the fact Sookie has been seen in the company of Alcide Herveaux.  The two do seem to be getting quite close….and he is quite the yummy one.

BILL: [Sneers] Yes, I am well aware that he is the one assigned to protect Sookie, though it doesn’t please me that Eric made that choice.  Considering the current, uh, situation, I suppose it will have to do and he can keep her safe during the day.

LORENA: [Laughs] William are you getting jealous? Now you know how it feels to see the one you love in the arms of another, don’t you?

BILL: [Hisses]  Sookie is not in the arms of another and if I ever find out that he has put his filthy paws on her, it will be a good day for a dog such as he to be put down.

MR: There is rumor of Sookie having powers other than her mind reading abilities.  Do you have any idea what she is???

BILL: I have no comment on this matter.

LORENA: I’m curious to know what she is myself.

MR: Oh come on Bill, you must have some idea…

BILL: [Glares] I said no comment.

LORENA: Keep it at Mr. Compton darlin’ or you may just end up being tonight’s first course.

MR: What is your thought on the selling of V and those who partake of such pleasures?

BILL: Having been abducted by “drainers” myself, I find it absolutely appalling.

LORENA: Our blood is sacred.  It shouldn’t be squandered among the parasites.  It is an abomination and those who partake in this should be severely punished for their crimes.

MR: And my final question, Ms. Krasiki, If you were to achieve the final death tomorrow, is there anything you would have liked to have done with your life?  Anything you would have done differently?  Any regrets?

LORENA: The only regret I have is letting William go the first time. I know he would have eventually embraced our true nature.  Had things gone differently, by now we could have been the King and Queen of Illinois and spent our eternity together, as it should have always been.

MR: It seems our time is almost up.  I would like to thank you for letting us interview you both.  [Leans into Bill handing him her card] And if you ever, ever need me for anything Bill, anything at all, or if things don’t work out with you and Sookie, give me a call.

LORENA: That’s it…I warned you! It’s Mr. Compton.  I have had just about enough with the likes of you.  William, what do you say we have one for the road.  Bon appetit…

True Blood 3.07 “Hitting the Ground” Review

When we look back on “Hitting the Ground,” it will surely be viewed as a defining episode of True Blood. For better or for worse, every character is set on the path that will take them running towards another jaw-dropping, mind-blowing, heart-breaking season finale.

Lorena made a meal out of Sookie, and it’s a good thing for her it was so delicious because it was the last blood she would ever taste. Bill musters the strength to wrap a silver chain around Lorena’s neck and pull her to the ground, calling for Sookie to stake her. With her last breath (figuratively), she says, “William, I love you.” As impressed as I was by Mariana Klaveno’s performance last week, it was time for that awful woman to die.

When Tara and Alcide try to pull Sookie away from Bill, she refuses to leave without him. If he were dead, she says, he’d look like the bloody mess on the floor. Just as they are wrapping Bill up in a blanket and preparing to carry him to Alcide’s truck, in walks Debbie pointing a gun at them. Alcide takes a soft approach with her, calling her “Sweetheart” and reminding her of how much they used to love each other. Sookie is a little more abrupt, getting Debbie fired up: “You sure picked a dumbass time to call me ‘bitch,’ bitch!”

Tara is still in fighting mode after her daring escape from Franklin and tackles Debbie. Alcide holds the gun now and, even though he doesn’t seem like a very violent werewolf, he doesn’t hesitate to kill Coot when he tries to attack. Debbie promises that she will hunt him down, but Alcide can’t bring himself to kill her (and past feelings aside, I wonder if he’s going to regret that decision later).

They have to make a quick getaway when they hear the other werewolves approaching. Sookie rides in the back with Bill and tries to revive him. She slices her arm with a handsaw and lets the blood pour into his mouth. His strength returns as he starts to drink, but Sookie‘s relief turns to fear when he pins her down and bites into her neck, ignoring her struggle as he feeds on her.

When Tara comes back to check on her, she’s unconscious from losing so much blood. Bill doesn’t remember what he’s done, but Tara is furious–she kicks him out into the sunlight, and Alcide drives them off to the hospital. For some very strange reason, Bill doesn’t seem to be burning in the sun right away. He’s concerned for Sookie‘s well-being, but when his skin starts smoking, he mutters, “Damn,” and then runs away to find cover.

Over in New Orleans, Sophie-Anne has been reduced to a captive in her own home, imprisoned like a bird in a cage (in which she has no doubt held many people before). Eric uses the Queen’s human, Hadley, as leverage to learn what is so special about Sookie. Sophie-Anne seems willing to let this happen rather than give up her secret, but Hadley doesn’t want to die. She whispers to Eric what he wants to know: “Well I certainly wasn’t expecting that.”

Jason is surprised to find himself wallowing over Crystal: “It’s funny, I never really thought I was smart enough to get depressed, but here I am.” He doesn’t understand why she lives with that jerk in Hot Shot, or why he feels like he already loves her even though he barely knows her. Hoyt suggests that he go down to the jail and talk to that drug dealer he tackled. The guy is pacing his cell angrily, going through painful withdrawal, and he will only talk about Crystal if Jason brings him some crystal meth.

Sam discovers the dogfighting ring where Tommy is being made to fight. He infiltrates the operation as a pit bull, sets off an alarm, and frees all the dogs locked up. Tommy is bleeding from a bite on his neck, and Melinda at least has the slight decency to seem upset about putting her son through this. Joe Lee, however, is nothing but a piece of trash. Sam is not afraid to stand up to him: “You like makin’ people scared, huh? Think you’re good at it? For the life of me, I can’t understand the power you got over these people ’cause I see you for what you are. You’re just a scared man in saggy underpants with no discernible life skills whatsoever.” Sam promises his brother a better life, and Tommy is finally ready to leave his parents (although that’s certainly not the end of this story…).

At the hospital, the doctors and nurses are trying to give Sookie a blood transfusion and are shocked to learn that she doesn’t have a blood type. Her body convulses when they try to give her O negative, the universal donor. They don’t know what else to do–she’s in a coma, and they inform Tara that she should start notifying next of kin. Jason has gone to Merlotte’s in a panic to see the only dealer he knows: Lafayette, who thinks he wants to buy more V: “Oh, no, I told you–that shit’s behind me. I just need some meth.” Then Jason gets a phone call from Tara that he needs to come to the hospital.

Tara and Jason stand at Sookie‘s bedside crying and holding her hand, telling her how much they need her, unaware that her mind is in another place at the moment. Dressed in a sparkling white gown, she follows a trail of flower petals outside to a garden where people are dancing. There she meets Claudine, who gives her a drink from a pond, and the water is full of light. In Sookie‘s hospital room, Lafayette is reciting a verse that is more appropriate than he can know: “I think over again my small adventures, my fears…and yet there is only one great thing, the only thing…To live to see the great day that dawns, and the light that fills the world.”

Claudine invites Sookie to come with them to their home beneath the pond. She hears in Sookie‘s thoughts that she is afraid of swimming because her parents drowned, and Sookie hears in Claudine‘s that it was not the water that killed her parents but something else. Before she can explain further, a shadow is cast overhead: “The dark approaches…” It’s night, and Bill has come the hospital to save Sookie. Tara doesn’t want any of his help, but it’s Jason’s choice. He agrees, so Bill opens his wrist and gives her an IV of his blood. This has always seemed like a more heroic, romantic gesture when Bill has done this for Sookie before, but it feels almost sinister when interposed with Claudine‘s warnings to Sookie about not letting Bill “steal her light.” And watching his dark blood travel up the tube into Sookie, I knew that it would heal her body, but it also seemed like it might be suppressing the special light water she drank. When Claudine and the others had disappeared into the pond, the camera panned back and showed that the dream-like garden was in Bon Temps Cemetery. It’s a sweet sight to see in Sookie’s hospital room: Jason, Tara, Alcide, and Lafayette are all sleeping in chairs next to her bed. Bill is awake, though, when Sookie stirs from her coma. He smiles down at her, but when she sees him, she starts screaming. Things are definitely going to be changing…

The Magister still has Pam chained with silver in the basement at Fangtasia. In spite of her pain, Pam remains brave and as snarky as ever. Eric comes down to stop him, followed by Sophie-Anne, and then Russell. The Magister tries to exercise his power, vested in him by “The Authority,” but Russell just laughs at him: “Who are The Authority? What gave them the authority? Nothing. No one. They took it, as I am taking it today.” For the first time, the Magister looks nervous, but he is stubborn about his duty to uphold the sacred laws for this unknown entity ruling over vampire society (perhaps the American Vampire League?) Within a second, the King has released Pam from the chains into Eric‘s arms, and placed the Magister on the table: “It’s vampires like you who’ve been holding the rest of us back for centuries.”

Russell stabs the Magister with his own cane until, as the sharp wooden end is poised over his heart, he obeys Russell‘s wish and pronounces him and Sophie-Anne married. The King then gets carried away talking about the only real law: “The law of nature! The survival of the fittest! And we need to take this world back from humans, not placate them with billboards and PR campaigns, while they destroy it. That is not authority! That is abdicating authority!” He sends the Magister to his “true death” and cuts off his head. Eric, Sophie-Anne, and Pam watch in shock as the head flies through the air and explodes when it hits the ground. What a way to end it…

There was so much happening in this episode I can hardly believe it. The most significant development: it looks like Sookie is finally going to begin her journey of self-discovery. Readers of the book series have been expecting the “fairy” reveal for a while now, and since it’s finally introduced into the show, we can begin the lengthy discussions on what those first scenes might mean (because we all know that Alan Ball will put his own unique twist on things). Based on people’s reactions in the comments section in the past few weeks, I think this will make viewers very happy. It’s a shame that it took Bill almost draining Sookie to death to open her eyes to the truth about herself, but nothing will ever be the same for her. Now that she knows the origin of her powers, she can start learning how to use them with confidence instead of just as an accidental defense mechanism. I expect that this will make her smarter, stronger, and just more capable in general now that she has been “enlightened” (literally and figuratively).

True Blood Season 3: Postmortem Video on Bill and Lorena

In HBO‘s latest postmortem video we see the beginning of Bill and Lorena‘s relationship and how through the passage of time it changed from the passion in the 1930’s to hatred in the following years.

VIDEO: Spoilers for the Rest of True Blood Season 3

HBO has posted a new video with more spoilers about the rest of the season of True Blood. In it, Bill is heard narrating in such a way that it sounds like he’s talking to someone as images flash by that show more than one character doing bad things. Some of the things shown appear to be Alan Ball‘s take on certain scenes from the books, while others just whet the appetite and make waiting for Sunday even harder! Watch the video and let us know in the comments what you think because this video is going to lead to some very interesting comments! (By the way, be sure to listen to the final thing said in the video.) Waiting sucks!

True Blood Season 3 Spoiler: Sookie’s Choice

Sookie Stackhouse has some pretty impressive abilities of her own, even though she’s not a supernatual creature like her boyfriend, vampire Bill Compton or a werewolf like her protector Alcide Herveaux. However, relationships on True Blood are going to be shaken up in upcoming weeks as Sookie will be splitting up with Bill in the face of a horrible breach of trust. Alan Ball commented on this break up, saying,

“[The breach of trust] will shake the very core of their relationship… Bill and Sookie‘s love for each other is authentic and they want to make it work. But it might get harder and harder.”

Stephen Moyer also had something to say about the break up of Bill and Sookie, as well as regarding which man on True Blood might be best for Sookie:

“I can’t get into slinging matches about who’s better for Sookie because it’s just ridiculous. Bill is for Sookie, the love of her life.”

Of course, there’s more to the story than this. Stephen Moyer also hinted about a scene from the upcoming August 8th episode in which Bill is passionate and protective of not only Sookie, but also his progeny, the young vampire Jessica. The scene will take place on a moonless night, and throughout it, Bill is a vampire that you want on your side.

After this, there’s an escape from King Russell‘s mansion that’s going to show us something entirely new, says Moyer.

Sookie does something we haven’t seen her do yet for Bill. It being the roller-coaster ride that their relationship is, something happens immediately that makes things go awry.”

Of course, vampire Eric Northman will have many things to do for the remainder of the season as well. Though we recently heard Eric describe Sookie as meaning nothing to him, that’s not true. Alexander Skarsgard said that those actions are all part of a bigger plan on Eric‘s part.

Underneath that plan, there are a lot of feelings that are going to affect True Blood in many ways, one of which is something that Eric fans have been wanting—a real romantic scene between Eric and Sookie that isn’t a fantasy sequence or a dream. Of course, the reaction to the scene could be different than what people expect it to be, which also leaves an opening for a romance between Sookie and Alcide. (After all, Alcide can have breakfast with Sookie in the mornings and is warm, unlike Bill and Eric…).

The matters of the heart are never simple, so be prepared for a lot to happen in the upcoming weeks of True Blood!

True Blood 3.06 “I Got a Right to Sing the Blues” Review

When you see the words “Written by Alan Ball” in the credits, it’s an immediate indication that the episode of True Blood you are about to watch will be bloody, sexy, scary, emotional–everything we love about the show. There are times you may cringe and want to look away (Tara…biting…gross), but it’s just too captivating NOT to watch.

So, to begin with, Russell drags Sookie and Bill back to his mansion, delighted by his discovery of her shocking gift. Bill‘s charade is up. He couldn’t shield her from Russell‘s greedy, power-hungry clutches, so he makes a futile attempt to escape, staking his guard and then leaping onto the King‘s shoulders to drive the stake down into his chest. With a mere shrug, Russell launches Bill up to crash into the ceiling (much to Talbot’s great dismay). Bill can only hope that Eric will help save Sookie, but Eric is too close to the vengeance he has sought for 1,000 years to let anything stand in his way.

Russell orders Bill to be taken to the slave quarters, where Lorena is commanded to kill him. Eric escorts Sookie to the study to wait for the King. She pleads with him, yells at him–anything to try to understand why he’s acting like Russell‘s lap dog and allowing Bill to be carried off to his death. “Please don’t take this the wrong way, but shut up.” When she doesn’t, he silences her with his hand over her mouth, “Thank you.”

She continues her questions while he paces, trying to think about how to handle the problems he’s facing. Sookie recalls what he said to her back in Bon Temps on her porch (another amusing impression from Anna Paquin), but Eric blows up at her: “You mean nothing to me! Nothing!” Russell enters the room and Eric puts on a huge, fake smile for him before leaving them alone to talk.

Meanwhile, at Merlotte’s, Arlene and Jessica have to deal with a very rude customer, even though they’re closed and everyone is gone for the night. Arlene accidentally cuts herself, and the scent of blood makes Jessica‘s fangs pop out because she’s so hungry. Jessica (who now knows that Arlene is pregnant) feels guilty that she is having such a bad night. She goes over to glamour the woman: “You’re not hungry anymore. Now I want you to take all the money you have and leave it on the table. Then head to the ladies’. Alright?” It might seem weird to be proud of Jessica for handling the situation like a grown-up (vampire), but she satisfies her hunger, on a woman who deserves it, doesn’t kill her, properly glamours her into forgetting, while managing to do something nice for Arlene!

Lafayette and Jesus continued the date they began last week, talking about their lives. Lafayette explains how he has tried to leave Bon Temps but keeps coming back. Jesus moved around a lot growing up. He doesn’t know who his father was because his mom was raped. When he sees that this beautiful guy has had a hard life, too, Lafayette finds himself relating to Jesus more than he expected, and they share a steamy kiss in the car.

Their attraction is undeniable, but a couple of barriers stood in the way of them getting together. For one thing, Lafayette is slow to trust–he’s used the phrase “Satan in a Sunday hat” on more than one occasion (even though, as Jesus pointed out, his name is the polar opposite). His trust issues are understandable–I have to imagine that someone who has left Bon Temps many times in his life but always returned found that the difficulties and persecution he faced in the outside world were harder to deal with than what he suffers from the country folks back home–that expression “the devil you know” comes to mind.

But he seemed ready and willing to test the water with Jesus, until those drug dealers from Hot Shot showed up at his house and started smashing up his car outside. He and Jesus beat them off, but Lafayette didn’t want to stop pounding one of them in the face. Jesus had to hold him back, and he was very disappointed to learn that Lafayette dealt drugs and V, bringing their night to an early end.

Jason and Crystal are kissing by the lake, whispering sweet nothings. When she rolls over on top of him, he laughs, “Don’t hurt me! Or do, I don’t care.” She jumps to the conclusion that he thinks she’s into perverted stuff and demands to know what he meant. “I meant, um…don’t break my heart.” (Candidate for Best Jason Moment Ever) Crystal softens up and starts crying that what they’re doing is wrong. She hears something in the woods, though, and runs off saying it’s too dangerous for them to be together. Between Jason‘s comment about how warm she is and the way she sniffed the air, it seems pretty evident that Crystal is a shifter of some sort.

In Russell‘s conversation with Sookie, they take turns asking each other questions. Sookie begs him to stop Lorena from killing Bill, but Russell wonders why she still wants him. He shows her the dossier Bill kept on her family, but she barely even has time to process it. When it becomes clear that Sookie doesn’t understand her powers or her value to vampires like himself and the Queen, he asks condescendingly, “Oh, sweetheart, you really don’t know anything at all, do you?”

The scenes in which Lorena tortures Bill, while tough to watch, are Mariana Klaveno‘s best work on the series. She deals with her suffering (over her inability to make Bill love her, and the fact that she will lose him forever when he’s dead) in the sadistic way that she cuts him with silver and inflicts as much pain on him as possible. Not to mention cutting herself and mixing her blood in his cuts so that she will be inside him in the end. Bill looks up at her with pity in his eyes, “I wish I had known you before you were Made, before you turned hard. I would liked to have seen you smile with light in your eyes, instead of darkness. That would’ve been something.”

What has gotten into Tara?! She stops letting herself being a victim and takes charge of the situation with Franklin in an intense way. She convinces him that she truly wants to be with him so that he’ll untie her. Then she says she wants to drink his blood and get high on it while making love to him as her last human act before “giving myself to you, then Death.” “Kinky,” he says, but he’s totally into it. She steels herself up and then rips open his neck. Afterwards, Tara lies in Franklin‘s arms, with blood all over her white gown. She sends a mental message to Sookie, who is locked in another guest room, to expect her when the sun comes up: Be ready. We’re gonna need all the luck in the world, but I’m gonna get us out of here. I am not giving up with out a fight.

Talbot and Eric are flirting and playing cards when the King comes in and asks Eric to accompany him on an errand. That seems to be the last straw with Talbot: “You never take me anywhere! You prefer to be in the company of sycophants. Deep down, my darling, you’re a very wicked character.” He walks off muttering to himself in Greek. Eric turns on the charm with Russell as well when they take a ride over to visit Sophie-Anne.

Eric admits to killing the werewolf that attacked him at Sookie‘s house, not out of love for her but to protect himself and because he despises those creatures. Russell gives him a glimpse into his ultimate dream: “If all the supernaturals would stop squabbling among themselves and unite, we could conquer humans in a matter of days.” He believes that mankind is heading “towards oblivion,” destroying themselves and the planet. Vampires are the master race, and everything he has done and planned has been to making that a reality on earth.

Russell finds the Queen on the ground by her pool, scratching lottery tickets and rejoicing over winning $100. He presents her with a rose and gets down on one knee. She has rejected his proposal over and over again, but now he knows that she has been selling V because she owes money. He promises to settle her debts, and when she still doesn’t accept, Eric rushes in and pins her to the ground. Her fangs pop out threateningly, but he just laughs: “I’m older and stronger than you. I’ve only submitted to you in the past because of respect. But you framed me, so I renounce any and all allegiance to you. I am his now. I will rip your head off and throw it in the pool, and I will have fun doing it.”

Sophie-Anne fumes in anger, but Russell knows that he has won. Now he will help Eric with the Magister. No Pam for the past two weeks now, as she is being held prisoner at Fangtasia. In show time, it’s only been two days, but I still can’t help missing Kristin Bauer van Straten‘s great presence and Pam’s sarcastic wit.

Next we see Lorena and Bill, she is licking his blood off a knife as bloody tears pour down her face, waiting for him to die. “What will you do then?” he asks. “Find another man that you deem honorable, so that you can turn him into a violent, hateful thing like yourself, destroying whatever it was that you loved about him to begin with.” She wants him to admit that he enjoyed all the time they spent together in the beginning, killing and making love.

We get a revealing moment about her when Bill brings up her Maker and the horrible things Lorena did for him: “He made you his mirror, just as you’ve tried to make me yours. He is the reason that a girl who once marveled in the beauty of all life, now delights in bringing pain and horror to every moment.” For a moment, it seems as though Lorena will be too upset to actually go through with killing him, but when Debbie and Coot stumble in for a taste of Bill‘s blood, she leaves them to finish him off.

Melinda comes to Sam’s to speak with Tommy. She tells him that he has to go back out on “the circuit” because she’s too old and hurt now. He can’t escape their life just because Sam seems willing to help him in the short-term. She convinces Tommy that she and Joe Lee are all he has, that Sam isn’t really family, and he leaves with her. Sam has no idea where he went, until Arlene mentions the Mickens loading a pit bull into the back of their van. Then he approaches Andy to start asking questions about local dog fighting.

Jason gets dressed up in his letterman jacket from high school football (awww, Crystal makes him feel like a schoolboy) and takes flowers to her house in Hot Shot. She pretends not to know him because her fiance (the same idiot Lafayette beat up the night before) answers the door. She calls him a dumbass and kicks him out, and Jason‘s temporary happiness (the first he’s had since what happened with Eggs) is over too soon.

In the morning, Tara crawls out of bed, grabs a mace from the wall, and smashes Franklin‘s head in. (She is a fearsome thing to behold, covered in blood!) She changes clothes and pretends to be bringing food to Sookie so that the werewolf guard will let her in: “If she ain’t eating almonds, Talbot ain’t gonna be happy, and if Talbot ain’t happy, Russell ain’t happy, and if Russell ain’t happy, you dog boys ain’t gonna be getting any vampire blood. Now open up the damn door!” Together the two girls knock him out and make a run for it. Tara goes to look for a car, while Sookie insists on finding Bill in case he’s still alive. Tara thinks she’s an idiot because of all the things Bill has done, but Sookie refuses to leave without him.

Tara is running across the yard when a white wolf chases her down, but when he shifts, it’s Alcide (naked!) who has come to help. Sookie is over at the slave quarters waiting for a high Debbie and Coot to leave. When she gets inside, Bill is drained to the very edge of death. Crying, she shakes him, and then he whispers her name. “I’m gonna get you out of here. I’m gonna make you well if it’s the last thing I do! Because I love you, Bill Compton, I’m not about to let you go.” Lorena interrupts, no longer sad but fiery mad, saying this is all Sookie‘s fault and pinning her to wall and biting into her. The end!

“I Got a Right to Sing the Blues” was shocking, to be sure, but it has also set up the action for what’s going to happen in the second half of the season. What did everybody else think about this episode, and what were your favorite quotes?

True Blood’s “Chivalrous” Men

HBO‘s True Blood is set down in the south where the idea of the “southern gentleman” and chivalry lives on.  Of course Alan Ball has his own unique way of portraying things and he has done a great job of showing us the softer side to our favorite characters.  Hollywoodnews.com did an article on who they feel are the most chivalrous men on True Blood.  Noticeably absent were Bill (I’m thinking the infamous “head turning” scene might have taken him out of the running) and Eric.  Here is a rundown of who they chose and why.

Alcide HerveauxAlcide was chosen because he puts aside his obvious dislike for vampires to help Sookie locate Bill Compton.  He knows she is going through a lot of turmoil so he has been fighting his attraction to her and not taking advantage of the situation.

Jason StackhouseJason‘s nomination came after he chased down Crystal with no shirt on just so he could talk to her and find out why she was crying the last time he saw her.  He may not have a whole lot in the brain department but when he puts his mind to it he can be very sweet.

Franklin Mott – This was a little bit surprising.  As funny as he is to watch I’m not sure I’d call tying your beloved to the bed and almost choking them very chivalrous behavior but to each their own …

Another person missing from the list was Jesus. His showing up at Merlotte‘s and sitting there for 9 hours watching Lafayette cook was very sweet!

Southern charm or not, all of the men on the show are charming in their own way (yes even Franklin – his crying “You don’t know how much you love me” line was very sweet in its own twisted way).

Alan Ball on True Blood

What makes True Blood so fascinating? Is it the dense plot that has fans and critics glued to the screen every Sunday at 9 on HBO? Or is it the mere fact that the events on the show are so bizarre and complex. Whatever the case, True Blood has gained so many fans that the show had to create its own Wiki in order to keep the audience up to date.

Recently Gina Piccalo from the LA Times got a sneak peek of the Emmy nominated show; she was backstage watching as Stephen Moyer was swinging on wires, baring his fangs as Bill Compton, ready to attack. Meanwhile Evan Rachel Wood was in her trailer perfecting the undead pallor of vampire Queen Sophie-Anne.

True Blood has become HBO’s biggest hit since The Sopranos and has made Alan Ball a creative hero. Stephen Moyer noted,

We do things that you’ve never imagined…The darker, the odder, the weirder, the better for me.

Weird and twisted has become True Blood’s mantra. The show is the grown up answer to the Twilight craze. It’s targeted for adults and not only has brooding vampires, but also a good sense of humor and lots of blood.

It came at the perfect moment. With the fall of 2008, came the series finales of both The Sopranos and Six Feet Under. HBO fumbled when they passed on Mad Men opting for John From Cincinnati, which was not a fan favorite.

During this time, Alan Ball wanted to create a 5 season project with levity. In 2005, he found Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse novels, devouring them quickly. Alan Ball had to wait a whole year to obtain the rights, due to a previous film option for the books. HBO agreed to green light the series based solely on Alan Ball’s creative genius. No one thought that the Southern gothic satire would gain such an audience. However, it popularity surprised HBO executives, but not Alan Ball who has called True Blood “popcorn for smart people.”

The show does not simply target one population of viewers, rather it appeals to everyone: men, women, and all age groups. Every episode is racy and exciting, balancing the idea of danger and comedy with surprising ease. The network’s president of programming, Michael Lombardi feels that if Alan Ball keeps up with the pace of the novels, the show could be on for a decade. However, as of now, no one knows if Alan Ball will continue after his contract expires given that he has been given the green light for his new project a pilot based on Charlie Huston’s novel, “”The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death.”

However, Ball is having too much fun to walk away right away. A simple tour of the True Blood set gives all the reason that he is hesitant to leave. With such a large budget, the set consists of a custom built cemetery in Calabasas as well as shooting on location in Mississippi and Louisiana.

The show has also taken over all but two of the seven soundstages on The Lot, a historic compound off Formosa Ave. Production designer Suzuki Ingerslev has meticulously created the world of True Blood from the fully functional kitchen in Merlotte’s pub to the hot rollers in Sookie’s bathroom counter.

Behind the scenes, in between shoots, Moyer and Wood chat; she shows him her engagement ring from fiance Marilyn Manson. This seems appropriate as the show revolves around the love of a telepathic waitress and a Civil War era vampire. Though love isn’t the only important thing on True Blood. Horror is key to any vampire tale; True Blood is no exception. There is a large body count and lots of blood.

None of the violence and outrageous sex is simply gratuitous. The writers try to use these scenes to push the story forward and create moments that are both deeply disturbing and extremely poignant. It is apparent that Alan Ball has used vampires as stand in for every genre of the disenfranchised. People struggle with shame and desire.

This season each character is struggling with an identity crisis. Sookie will also learn shocking details about her powers. As the show goes deeper into vampire politics, viewers will find a reflection of the American political system, which will give rise to many questions about government and power.

With politics as well as sex, the third season will question power and where it is concentrated. Viewers will be faced with shocking scenes, such as the vampire hate sex between Bill and Lorena.

Some viewers can view True Blood as pure entertainment, but the more aware viewers will be able to see the underlining meanings and the deeper intentions that Alan Ball wants to draw out. The show will leave many with thought provoking questions, which makes True Blood so much better than a simple television show.
