SCOOP! Deborah Ann Woll to Appear on L&O:SVU!

true_blood-jessica-deborah_ann_wollTrueBloodNet.com was contacted by Neal Baer, the executive producer of mega award winning Law and Order: SVU [Editor’s Note: 73 nominations and 33 wins], to let us know that the actress that plays our favorite teen vampire, Jessica, Deborah Ann Woll will appear on the third episode of next season’s SVU. SVU is entering it’s 11th season and is shown on NBC.   According to Neal, Deborah will play a “very different character on SVU in episode 3…[than she does in True Blood].”  Bobby Campo will also join the cast as her boyfriend. Campo will be appearing in THE FINAL DESTINATION in 3D which will be released soon and is considered by industry insiders as an ‘up & comer’.

We hope to get some sneak preview pics in the near future!

This isn’t the first connection between SVU and True BloodRyan Kwanten, who plays Jason Stackhouse, appeared last year as Master Sgt. Dominic Pruitt in Episode 1 of season 10, “Trials”.  And Adina Porter, who plays Tara‘s mother, Lettie May Thornton on True Blood, played Janelle Odami in episode 1 of season in 2007, “Fight”.  Even Lois Smith, who played our beloved “Gran“, appeared on SVU playing Mrs. Varick in 2005’s  episode, “Sport of Kings”.

Additionally Aisha Hinds, who played Miss Jeanette (rest her possum killing soul), played Jackie Blaine this year in Season 10 episode 14, “Transitions”.  Her powerful performance  as a transgendered school guidance counselor was transforming.

So when you ask yourself what you’re going to do once True Blood season 2 ends, don’t forget to catch Deborah on Law and Order: SVU in October!

True Blood Season 2: More Behind The Scenes From Louisiana

true_blood_bill_and_ericCurrently the cast and crew of Alan Ball‘s hit HBO TV series True Blood are in Clinton and Baton Rouge, Louisiana shooting scenes for episode 10 for season 2.  The local media has been covering the cast and crew’s visit to the area by featuring them in local news reports and articles.  Nola.com reports that the cast has be filming for several days in Clinton (which is standing in for the fictional town of Bon Temps, La).  Nola.com reports that “the town’s streets (and trees) were strategically strewn with trash but mostly clothing, for a saucy storyline to play out in a few weeks on the show’s 10th episode of the current season.”  Locals had the opportunity to watch, out-of-frame, Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton), Anna Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse) and Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse) shoot their scenes.

Missorleans990 sent us her account to what she saw on the set of True Blood:

“The cast and crew were in Clinton, LA, a small town about an hour north of Baton Rouge, filming on the main street. The police had the two ends of Main Street closed off, as well as the area around the historic court house. However, I could see that there were clothes strewn all over the street and sidewalks. According to the LSU newspaper, the Reveille, the Clinton Main street is serving as the setting for Bon Temps, and they were filming for episode 10. Some of the stars there were Anna Paquin, Ryan Kwanten, and Nelsan Ellis. Wish I could have seen more, but if they were filming on Sunday they got rained out, and when I drove by Sunday afternoon they had packed up and moved out.”

There was one interesting visitor that did happened to  “drop in” on the cast and crew of True Blood during their visit in Clinton.  An ailing Clinton baby bat fell from a tree near the East Feliciana Parish Courthouse (built in 1840) as the production was preparing to shoot a scene.

The set’s medic Holly O’Quin, who works as a nurse during the day at the Ochsner Health Center immediately went to the bat’s rescue and called her brother, Jeff Galpin, who works as a New Orleans stunt coordinator and animal wrangler for film-and-TV productions.  He stated toMs. Quinn to nurse the baby bat back to health by “feeding it regular doses of evaporated milk and egg whites” administered by a needle-less syringe.  Many on the set, including Anna, were concerned for the the bat’s well-being.  The baby bat made a full recovery and flew off at the end of production on Monday.

During their off time the cast and crew are taking the opportunity to enjoy the sights in Louisiana.  Nola.com reports that on Sunday, Stephen Moyer, Anna Paquin and several production officials visited New Orleans and attended a large dinner party at Galatoire’s where Deborah Ann Woll joined the group.

Several days earlier Stephen Moyer took in the sights of New Orleans on his own, walking the French Quarter.  During his excursion Stephen took photos of the French Quarter and took in a cup of coffee where some locals recognized him.  Stephen stated that:

“I saw a coffeehouse in a courtyard, and I wandered in there,” a native of England, about his first-ever trip to New Orleans. “The coffee looked great. And sitting at the table were two New Orleans mimes, dressed in silver, having a coffee break. They were talking (but) went into mime (poses) as I walked past.”

Upon getting his cup of coffee Stephen returned to the mines sitting at the table and offered them gratuity in exchange for taking their photo.

“This is the only thing she said,” said Moyer of one of the mimes, approximating her thick “True Blood“-homage accent. ” ‘Anything for you, Bill Compton.'”

True Blood Season 2: EW Recap of Episode 4

true_blood_season_2_episode_4Alright, we waited two weeks for “Shake and Fingerpop.” Ken Tucker from EW gives us his True Blood season 2 episode 4 recap after last week expressing his annoyance at the mini-marathon instead of a new episode.  Ken starts his recap by examining Bill‘s and Sookie‘s roles as surrogate parents to (as Ken refers to her) “the delightfully bratty Jessica.” [Author’s comment: my take on Jessica (played by Deborah Ann Woll) is that she rocks at playing the part of a hormonal teen vampire. Watching Bill pop out of the coffin to save Sookie, then Jessica screaming, “How the hell do I get out of this thing?” as her coffin bounced around on the ground while she tried to get out was hysterical.

Ken talks about the relationship of Bill and Sookie taking on new dimensions:

It displayed a new side of the Sookie-Bill relationship, showing that they’re not just lovers making goo-goo eyes at each other — they can see each other’s strengths and flaws. Sookie may be a tough country gal, but she’s still naive about the nature of both evil and adolescence, and thus prone to being too permissive. (And, really, is there much difference between a teenager and a leeching vampire?) “Two travel coffins instead of one,” sighed Bill, ordering an additional for Jessica even as he knew knowing nothing good can come of this.”

We all know plenty of good fun can come out of this and it did. Bill showing Jessica how to glamor Sookie’s would-be abductor was a great scene. Sookie‘s look radiated her emotions, seeming to say, What a great dad he is. Sadly, I must admit, even as an adult I would have played with this man’s mind in the some way or another. Who knows what I would have made him do in public, but I would have had fun with it.

Alright now as Ken puts it here a SPOILER on who was behind the foiled kidnapping.

“A pivotal connection was made in this episode, as we found out that the people behind the attack on Sookie upon arrival in Dallas (with the limo driver played by Dean Norris, who’s so good in Breaking Bad), are the Soldiers of the Sun, the elite group of anti-vampire fanatics headed up by Rev. Steve Newlin and whose newest recruit is our dear sap Jason Stackhouse.

In all the spoilers that I had read concerning the “Eric and Lafayette” scene, it was discussed as being homoerotic.  The scene was anything but erotic.  If anything, Eric looks bored while Lafayette is drinking his blood and mildly bemused by Lafayette‘s dancing but not interested enough to even stick around.  Lafayette dancing around was hysterical, but NOT homoerotic!

Then of course Ken points out the hysterical debate between Jason and a few of Fellowship Of The Sun worshipers on the first vampire:

The debate among the Fellowship of the Sun stooges about who was the original vampire, Jesus, Lazarus, or Cain, was priceless”
Then of course Jason’s final words on the derivative of the word Evil and its meaning “explain Europe.” I couldn’t tell if they were confused or actually thinking hmmmm he’s right.

True Blood Season 2 Spoilers: More Tidbits from E!Online

293wolltrueblood071009E!Online’s Kristin is adding to the spoiler frenzy for tonight’s new episode of HBO‘ s True Blood [and you SOOOOOOOOO KNOW!!! she got to view season 2 episode 4 Shake and Fingerpop.]  Not only is there a Q&A with Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica Hamby), Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte) but with the man himself: Alan Ball, True Blood’s writer and executive producer. To add to the suspense there are three spoiler videos for Episode 4 “Shake and Fingerpop” and if you haven’t seen it yet you can view it here.  Yes, I have said it before. It is a well planned plot to make us crazy…  Well, we had our break and we are definitely ready for some more.

First up: in the Q&A is Deborah Ann Woll (newbie vamp Jessica Hamby).  As Kristin points out, Jessica did not want to become a vamp and she is having a bit of an adjustment problem.

“Absolutely. It’s a whole new world. She has to deal with everything you have to deal with as a 17-year-old girl, and on top of that, she can kill people, which is maybe not such a good thing to add with a teenage temper.”

And as to having Bill Compton as a Dad [Editor’s Note: I have to add Vampire Bill is much better than Jessica’s human dad, NOT in the Vampire Bill, sexy kind of way but more in the functional father way.  Her dad was an abusive jerk; Bill is a much better dad.] She could not answer too much of the question but she did add this tidbit:

“It settles down as much as a father-daughter relationship ever does. Is that mysterious enough for you?”

Next up, Alan Ball answering questions about the genre of the show (if he had to classify it) along with Kristin’s questions on whether the core of the show will remain in Bon Temps.  As for genre, Alan Ball says:

We don’t have an actual sign in the writers room that reads, “It’s the emotions, stupid,” but we might as well. We feel like we have to keep these characters rooted in some sort of emotional reality because otherwise, it’s a parade of special effects and set pieces.”

On whether True Blood will remain grounded in Bon Temps [Editor’s Note: Ok I could be snarky here and say DUH but I won’t]:

“The show gets a little bigger in scope this year, but it always remains rooted in Bon Temps. That’s where Sookie lives, that’s where Bill lives, that’s where all our major characters live. They may go out of town for this reason or that reason, but they’ll always come home.”

Now what’s up for our favorite shapeshifter Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell)?  Kristin asked Sam, “What’s up with Maryann (Michelle Forbes) and does Sam Merlotte get a girlfriend.  On the mysterious Maryann:

“I did. I knew Maryann; you’re going to find all of that out. A lot of Sam’s history is explored this year, and you find out how they know each other. My storyline this year is very much entwined with hers. She’s a very, very intense creature for Sam.

As for a girlfriend [we all saw Daphne getting ready for that warm night swim, along with the BIG claw marks on her back]:

“Yes, Sam has some new romance this year. And he’s got some other stuff going on this year. Sam really opens up this year. He becomes more vulnerable than he was in the past. He shares more of himself than he has.”

To finish up my part and to lead you into Kristin’s full E!Online article, I will leave you with Sam‘s response on his favorite scene shot this season:

“We did a scene recently that was so crazy. I don’t even know how to describe it. I don’t know how it’s going to come out, it’s just insane.”

True Blood’s Deborah Ann Woll Talks to TelevisionaryTV

trueblood_jessica3Deborah Ann Woll who plays Jessica on HBO‘s True Blood sat down with Jace over at TelevisionaryTV and talked about her role as Jessica, what it’s like to be involved with True Blood and the relationship between Jessica and Hoyt.

On the forbidden aspects of the show:

“Woll: I definitely like a little bit of darkness, a little edge. I get a little bored when things are maybe too simple or too… expected. The best characters and the best stories are the ones that surprise you.”

On her role as Jessica:

“Woll: Oh, not at all. I had no idea [that Woll would become a regular]. When we shot the second to last episode and that last episode [of Season One], they probably could have just dropped me. (Laughs) I guess they could have after that second episode I shot, but after that last [one] it was nice to hear I would at least come back in some small way. But it was a huge surprise–and a pleasant one at that–that I was going to get to be a larger part of the story.”

On Jessica and Hoyt:

“Woll: Jim and I kind of guessed in the same way that a lot of fans had, when he had that line in an episode of the first season about looking for a nice vampire girl his age. So Jim and I had some sort of inkling about maybe this is somewhere they are going to go with it. But we didn’t really meet officially and have a conversation until we shot Episode Three [“Scratches”], so I think within five minutes of officially meeting Jim Parrack, we were making out. (Laughs) But he’s just such a sweet person that it couldn’t have been easier”
On actresses she admires:

I love old-fashioned movies, so [Greta] Garbo is a hero of mine so I think she’s lovely. When you watch her in a time period where things are over the top, she’s very beautiful, and subtle and reserved but still very strong. A lot of actors or actresses, you might not know their names but they are kind of in everything and you certainly recognize their faces but they play different roles in everything. Allison Janey would be one as well, I think she’s great.

There’s a lot more, so head on over to TelevisionaryTV and check it out!

True Blood Season 2: Vampire Hotel in Dallas

In season 2 of Alan Ball‘s fangtastic (couldn’t resist saying that) HBO TV series True Blood, Bill (Stephen Moyer), Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) travel to Dallas to help find a missing vampire.  But where do vampires stay when they are out of town?  As we saw last season they can always head underground when they are not near home, however once they rise they will need to find someplace to wash up (remember Bill was covered all in dirt after spending the day underground though Sookie didn’t mind at all).

In comes the need for vampire hotels as we see in the following photos from FilmingDirect.com the lobby of Sofitel LA located in West Hollywood was the backdrop for the Carmilla Hotel, a vampire hotel set in Dallas for season 2 of True Blood. According to the website it took 18 hours one day and another 24 hours the following week to shoot the necessary scenes. Bottles of TruBlood lined the concierge desk and guests of the hotel had the opportunity to see the stars of the show up close as they shot the scenes. Below is a set of before and after shots of the scenes and a glimpse of the vampire hotel.

Hollywood Life’s Interview with Deborah Ann Woll

deborahaw-hlHollywood Life.com recently had the chance to interview True Blood’s Deborah Ann Woll. In the interview , Deborah talks about her first appearance in Season 1 of True Blood and how she prepared for the role by watching animal attack videos.  Deborah’s goes on to talk about the difficulty talking with fangs.

Some of the interview below.

Your character, Jessica, was a sheltered girl who transformed into an outspoken, bratty teenage vampire. Could you relate to any of that from your teenage years? What were you like?
I was nothing like Jessica. I was very shy. Very quiet. I was a hard worker and I really just did my own thing. I was very un-popular. I certainly was not in the in-crowd. I was a big nerd. I did not have the attitude or the sort of self confidence that Jessica has. And part of me wishes that I did, because I wouldn’t have been such a doormat my whole life. She really doesn’t let anybody tell her what to do or tell her she’s inappropriate. And I think that’s a great quality in a way. Jessica will learn to balance that out a little bit, I hope. But, no, I didn’t really draw on my own experiences. I tended to watch a lot of specific celebrities who maybe had a similar feel to them, and I just thought a lot about what it would be like to have never been allowed to express yourself. To always have been told that what you thought and felt were wrong, your entire life. And what would it be like to finally be able to say ‘Never again am I going to let someone marginalize me or make me feel less than.’

Carrie Preston Talks About True Blood Season Two

arlenehboCarrie Preston talks about season two of True Blood and gives us some spoilers that will have fans excited and waiting anxiously for season two to begin. Now if you do not want to read any spoilers then do not continue reading. OK, you have been warned.  Recently Carrie Preston had the opportunity to speak to SCI FI Wire where she was able to provide in the interview little tidbits of what we can expect when Alan Ball’s hit HBO TV series returns for season two. Carrie who plays Arlene Fowler, the redheaded bar waitress who has a knack of choosing the wrong men (she has been married four times and her latest boyfriend, well let‘s just say her late boyfriend had some character flaws), says that for season two True Blood is going to go deeper into the supernatural world. Carrie states that:

“Things are going to get a little crazy on the show,” … “There’s going to be a bunch of new sort of supernatural things that are being introduced. Besides the … the vampires. And, as far as Arlene goes, well, let’s just say that Arlene’s not the type of woman to be single for very long.”

The regular cast of True Blood from season 1 return with a few additional characters including Valerie Cruz, Anna Camp, Ashley Jones, Michelle Forbes, Mehcad Brooks and Deborah Ann Woll who will all have a part in the storyline for season two. According to Carrie Preston True Blood has just finished filming episode 5 and will be starting episode 6 marking the halfway point of filming (there are 12 episode per season).

SCI FI Wire asked Carrie if she could explain some of the supernatural aspects that are going to occur in season 2. As Carrie indicated she can not talk in detail but can state some general overviews of what will happen. One thing that Carrie did mention is that season two is departing a bit away from the books (Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse series which True Blood is an adaptation) and that the writers are expanding some of the characters and developing several different storylines occurring at the same time.

“…they’re fleshing out characters that are minor in the books, and they’re … changing some plot things, and they’ve really made it their own. … You’re going to see some characters doing things that you’re surprised at, which will be fun. So I think the show is going to kind of keep you on your toes, and there’s several different storylines that are spinning in the air. …”

The several different storylines that Carrie is referring to are ones involving Bill and Sookie, Jason and stuff happening with him, Tara and her experiences with her new friends and of course the others at Merlotte‘s will see some action too. When SCI FI Wire asked about Michelle Forbes‘ character, Maryann , Carrie stated that she is a mysterious character who is going to be prominent in season two. As to what she is and her powers, even Carrie states that “we’re still a little confused … as to what her powers actually are. But, you know, she is a very powerful force.”

Now the big question, does anyone die in season 2? Well all that Carrie could say is that you don’t know who is going to live or die and that goes for both the new cast members and the regulars. As Carrie says these are some of the questions she asks herself:

“… are you going to make it? Are you going to make it through the season? Especially now that they’ve departed from the books. Because when I got the job, of course, I read all the books to see if Arlene lives, and she does in the books, but who knows?”

Jessica – Deborah Ann Woll

Jessica © 2008 HBO, Inc.
Jessica © 2008 HBO, Inc.

Jessica is a fairly new name as these things go first appearing in Shakespeare’s play  “The Merchant of Venice” but traced through to it’s most likely roots, Jesca, it means foresight.  I don’t know whether Jessica is clarvoyant or not but as soon as I saw her I could see trouble a comin…

The magister forced Bill to make Jessica, a young, religiously reppressed, kidnap victim, into a vampire as punishment for Bill killing Longshadow.  A punishment Bill, in an unconscious moment of foresight himself,  found worse than being chained in silver and stuffed in a coffin for ten years.  Little did he know…

With the intent to bring up his little girl as a vegetarian, Bill meets her with a sixpack of True Blood.  This was as likely as distracting a shark with a PBnJ sandwich.  Jessica embraces her newfound ‘freedom’ and vampiric nature with the single minded lust of a teen oppressed by an abusive, religiously fanatical family.  After celebrating ‘no more belts, no more clarinets?” (two clearly equivalent punishments)  she quickly launches into a string of fairly mild and childlike curses as Bill becomes more and more exasperated with her culminating in her threat to ‘Find a real vampire and he’ll kick your ass’.   But the final straw is when she breaks into loud sobbing tears and Bill just can’t take anymore.

Jessica is pawned off onto a very reticent Eric in exchange for a favor to be named later and enticed to behave by promising to teach her how to feed like a real vampire.  We don’t see her again until the end of the season when a obviously frazzled Eric and Pam drop her off unexpectedly at Bill’s house because they find her clearly too annoying to live exist.

We don’t know if Bill has told Sookie about Jessica but it’s unlikely since Sookie tends to go off like a roman candle every time something vampiric actually happens.  Next season Jessica promises to bring chaos and comedy to a sometimes extremely tense universe and act as a walking talking chastity belt for a highly frustrated Bill..  Since Hoyt has asked Sookie to introduce him to a nice young vampire girl could their be romance in her future? Who’s scarier, Jessica or Maxine Fortenberry?  Get your bets down early!
