Video: True Blood’s Pam is “Completely Unapologetic”

Kristin Bauer Dishes on her ‘Meaty’ Vampire Role:

PamSeason4TrueBloodSpellboundThe beautiful and self described “softie” Kristin Bauer Van Straten sat down with Wired during Comic-Con, sharing with us about her her role as Vampire Pam.

“Pam is the most unapologetic vampire. She’s happy to be a vampire, she was done with humanity, so it’s a very clear, simple character as opposed to being myself – you know, human. Everything is so complex, nothing is black and white in our lives. For Pam it’s very black or white.”

But is Kristin like her character Pam? She explains:

“I am such a softie, I cry about 30 times a day and somehow to play this relentless bitch is so much fun. I can’t even explain that to you.”

It’s easy to see that Pam doesn’t have to watch her words, or worry about being accepted. Even with her rotting face this season, Pam – and Kristin – take the Witchs’ spell in stride.

“It was really challenging, but really meaty for me – no pun intended.”

True Blood’s Costume Designer on Dressing Vampires

Audrey Fisher Talks to The Hollywood Reporter:

Alexander Skarsgård as True Blood’s Eric Northman S4 Ep2For fans of HBO’s True Blood, it’s not always about the vampires – sometimes it’s about the amazing costumes they wear! Recently, The Hollywood Reporter talked to costume designer Audrey Fisher about how she picks the clothes the hottest vamps in town like to wear.

While Alexander Skarsgård is currently a board shorts and hoodie kind of guy, he started the season with a lot more style. As Fisher puts it:

“This season, he’s more kind of rocker goth, a heightened black prince.”

She had him dressed in black leather for the first few episodes — a look that many fans loved.

For Pam, she also had a black leather theme happening, this time because she wanted a battle goddess inspired look, since Pam seems to spend a lot of her time defending what is hers this season. There are plenty of corsets and fabulously Gothic jewellery. However, her look also takes a decided change, just like that of her makers. Once the rotting curse hits her, she goes from showing lots of skin, to trying to cover up. Fisher has this to say about her black veiled number:

“Pam’s flesh starts to rot and fall off her body. It’s a harsh blow because she’s so fierce with her beauty and uses it as a weapon. So she covers herself like a Sicilian widow. She has this phenomenal black lace hat that a friend of mine who’s a milliner made. She’s this unbelievable kind of black widow. We called it rot couture.”

Finally, she discussed Bill’s wardrobe. In Season 4, we find Bill with a promotion. He is now the vampire King of Louisiana. His wardrobe has been altered accordingly. We no longer see him in his trademark Henley shirts, it’s suits all the way now baby! His house also got a makeover to suit his change in status.

Check out the style photos here and let True Blood Net know which one is your vampy fave.

Videos: Alan Ball and Cast Discuss True Blood Season 4 at PaleyFest Part 1

Interviews at PaleyFest 2011

Paley Fest BannerIn continuing Truebloodnet’s coverage of True Blood at PaleyFest 2011, I have for all of our dear truebies video interviews from creator Alan Ball and the cast that they did in the press tent prior to going onstage for the panel. I have chosen interviews from E! Online and Access Hollywood and because I am reporting from more than one source and covering many cast members who were interviewed more than once, this article will be posted in parts.

In this first part, Alan Ball, Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pam De Beaufort), and Alexander Skarsgård (Eric Northman) are interviewed about their impressions of season 4 thus far. Please note that if you have chosen to be spoiler-free this season that you should not proceed past this point. It’s completely filled with spoilers!

Series Creator Alan Ball

In this first video interview conducted by E! Online, Alan Ball is asked how he connects to the world that was created by author Charlaine Harris and he responds first by saying that since he grew up in a small town in the south, he can relate to being different. But he says that Harris’ series has given him the freedom in True Blood that he didn’t necessarily have in his previous HBO series Six Feet Under. Because our favorite show focuses on the world of the supernatural, it can go places that other realistically based shows cannot and still make sense:

Speaking of making sense, Access Hollywood asked Mr. Ball if season 4 would include events from the fourth book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. He replied that it would but when asked about the infamous shower scene that occurs in the book between Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Eric, he said that a shower scene will happen but it could lead elsewhere. Since this season has been dubbed “the Season of the Witch”, Alan did confirm that we will be meeting some witches, ghosts, new werewolves, new shifters, and new vampires. But of the witches, he says that their viewpoint coming in is that they have been assaulted which is one reason why others on the show may not like them. Interesting. Watch:

Alexander Skarsgård (Eric Northman)

In E! Online’s interview with Alexander, he is asked how he feels being at Paleyfest. While he admits that it is overwhelming, it is also very rewarding and flattering to know that people care as much as he does. So truebies, what do you think Alexander gets asked about the most for season 4? Two words: pink spandex. Watch:

By now, it is no secret that Eric loses his mind thanks to a witch. Why exactly he does lose it on the show remains a secret to fans. But when asked by Access Hollywood if this is the season of Eric, Alexander replied that Eric will have a lot to deal with this season and that he is pretty much a really big baby in need of protection:

Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pam de Beaufort)

Like her vampire counterpart Alexander, Kristin was also asked by E! Online about her frequently asked questions from fans. She says that women want to know what it’s like working with the “tall Swede” and while she says that she used to say how wonderful he is, now she makes up things like saying he’s a pain in the ass! That’s when you know that actors spend lots of time together. Kristin discussed being around fans of the show and how it’s nice to learn about what people are interested in given that there is such a large buffer between the actors and audience normally:

But what can we expect for Pam in season 4? A very excited Kristin informs Access Hollywood that so much good stuff is going to happen for her character that she doesn’t want to give anything away. But she does say that Pam continues to be tested beyond the limits of where season three saw her go. And not only does Pam get to leave Fangtasia but she also gets to interact with witches! Watch:

Those are all the interviews I have for the moment. But more are forthcoming so stay tuned to TBN for more season 4 interviews from Paley!

Kristin Bauer van Straten to Judge Fur Free Fashion Competition

Sustainable and Friendly Fashion

Kristin Bauer Van Straten as PamWe’ve all heard of fashion designers being protested against for the use of fur in their designs. But times have changed and now there is a heavy emphasis on environmental awareness or being green. Fashion is no exception with many designers now getting into the habit of using more sustainable fabrics like silk to create fabulous designs.  But what about green and animal friendly fashion? That’s where Born Free USA and Environmental Magazine’s (E! Magazine) 3rd annual Fur Free Fashion Competition comes in. And who better to judge it than a fashion diva?

Kristin Bauer van Straten who plays the stylishly undead Pamela De Beaufort on HBO’s True Blood will be serving as a judge for the competition. She announced the news via Facebook saying that her vampire counterpart would be judging the fashion:

“Guess who’s a judge this year? Pam! I mean, me, Kristin.”

Kristin has famously used her celebrity for good; harnessing social networking tools like Facebook and Twitter as well her own website to raise awareness for animal rights and environmental conservation issues. So there couldn’t be a more perfect choice! When asked about why she was so passionate about animal rights and the environment, Kristin had this to say:

“[Nature and animals] have always given selflessly to me, so much more than I could have ever dreamed or given back. Mother nature is the greatest and most magical artist I have ever seen.”

Joining Kristin as judges are actress Julia Barr, E! Magazine editor Brita Belli, actress Rachelle Carson-Begley, designer Elizabeth Emanuel, and Green Award judge Summer Rayne-Oakes.

Independent designers who are interested in entering the competition can check out the official rules here. The deadline is April 15th.

What are your thoughts on environmentally conscious and animal friendly fashion truebies?

Kristin Bauer Helps Fight for Chimpanzees

Kristin Bauer Keeping Primates Out of the Lab

Kristin Bauer as PamTrue Blood‘s Kristin Bauer (Pamela De Beaufort) is being credited as part of the reason a plan to transport  186 chimpanzees to a testing facility in Texas was put on hold.

The chimps currently reside in a non-research facility in New Mexico, the Alamogordo Primate Facility. Many organizations and big names have been trying to keep the primates out of the testing lab, including Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, former Gov. Bill Richardson, actor Gene Hackman, and Kristin Bauer. According to the federal complaint filed, the Chimpanzee Health Improvement Maintenance and Protection Act comes into play, which protects retired chimps. Also, scientists and doctors argue that chimpanzees have not proven effective in human disease research, including HIV, cancer, and malaria.

The legal complaint insists:

“… these animals are not necessary for this type of research. Superior alternatives are available and researchers continue to develop new, cutting-edge models for human disease research.”

While the ultimate future of the chimps is not clear, they will be able to stay in their current facility while the Institute of Medicine reviews the merit of the experimentation.

Kudos to Kristin for being an advocate for these chimps! They deserve to live out their lives in peace and could not have any one better helping to give them that chance.

Will Season Four Pave the Road to the Return of Russell Edgington?

True Blood Season 4 Spoilers and Speculation:

Denis O'Hare as Russell Edgington in Season 3 True Blood (HBO,inc.)

Season 4 of True Blood premieres June 12, 2011– just 5 short months from now. Fans (including me!) are waiting on pins and needles to see what’s going to happen next to our favorite characters and to finally get answers to some looming questions that came up at the end of season 3.

Some of the questions fans hope to find answers to include:

  • What’s in store for vampire Bill Compton(Stephen Moyer) as he faces off with the much-more-powerful Vampire Queen of Mississippi (Evan Rachel Wood)?  Also, will there ever be a Sookie and Bill relationship again?
  • After taking sewing shears to her lovely locks, where did Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley) and her cool-looking convertible go–and is she coming back or will she be on an extended road trip?
  • Has Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who recently discovered she is part-faery, actually gone to the land of the Fae and will she return to what must seem a very cold ‘real’ world?

Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) the Vampire King Of Mississippi, is yet another True Blood character favorite that fans want to know about. Russell was encased in concrete, gangland style, by Bill Compton with an assist from Eric Northman, at the end of season 3.  Eric was buried ‘alive’ under a huge amount of cement by Bill as well, seemingly forever to be encased in the hardened concrete but as her maker, he was able to summon Pam (Kristen Bauer van Straten) to help him. I wonder if she had to ruin another pair of pumps?

The first thought that crossed my mine was it is easy to picture Russell getting out with the help of an unknown source–perhaps Eric. I think it was Eric after he himself was released from the concrete. It is no secret Russell has caused lots of craziness for the main characters for husband Talbot’s killing so he could be back to cause more drama for everyone at some as yet unknown point.

It seems like a great idea that Alan Ball and True Blood‘s talented writing team kept the storyline open so that Russell may show back up sometime after the season premiere. Rumours are swirling that Denis O’Hare will indeed return as the ruthless Russell with his plotline intertwined with a filmmaker trying to get vampire attacks on camera and put them on the internet. Being a fan I can’t wait till season 4, even though June seems a long time from now.

Kristin Bauer Praises True Blood

Kristin Discusses Pam’s Future and Possible Love Life

While it was Anna Paquin who won best horror actress at the 2010 Scream Awards, Kristin Bauer van Straten was dazzling the red carpet with her big smile and high praises for the best horror television show of 2010: True Blood. Kristin is known as Eric Northman’s side kick and right hand vampire Pam Ravenscroft. She’s become a fan favorite and everyone let out a sigh of relief when she was saved from a cement prison during the season finale. Kristin discussed what it’s like to play on such a hit show and what Pam looks for in a lesbian lover.

While Pam does, in the Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse series, have a girlfriend, it seems that on the show she’s simply dating and not looking to settle down. However, Kristin believes it would be fun to see Pam in a relationship and what she’d be like. Every fan wants to see Pam a little clumsy and nervous around someone she really likes.

Gay Friendly True Blood

When asked about the honor of being named the most gay friendly program on TV by GLAAD, Kristin couldn’t be happier. She noted,

“Isn’t that great? I love being part of it and I think entertainment and art has a huge opportunity and responsibility to open up horizons and maybe address issues in a way that is less confrontive but opens a door to conversation. People probably didn’t think they could relate to people that are different are finding themselves relating, which I think is really neat. I think vampires are a wonderful metaphor in so many ways. In art, you can do things that you can’t do politically.”

When a show can mix vampires and social awareness in one hour, it has to be good. Add a sexy woman like Kristin Bauer with a killer wit and fans will be begging for more!

The True Blood Cast at 2010 Scream Awards

Kristin Bauer van Straten and Rutina Wesley Talk True Blood

With the wrap up of Season 3 and as they wait for production of Season 4, True Blood cast members are enjoying their time off in different ways. Fans have enjoyed watching the cast go on various interviews, look elegant on the red carpet for their recent projects and, of course, attend award ceremonies. Kristin Bauer van Straten (who plays vampire Pam),  Rutina Wesley (who plays Tara Thornton), and Sam Trammell (Merlotte’s resident shape-shifter) all attended the 2010 Scream Awards, where they were interviewed by Rebecca Murray from About.com.

The season finale left fans glad that Pam wasn’t stuck in a cement grave. When asked what she knows about the upcoming season, Kristin said she didn’t know anything, but was glad that Pam was becoming a more developed character. As for her cast-mates, she noted,

“I’m so lucky in Fangtasia because I get along with everybody really well. I enjoy these people; I love these people. And they’re all so fun, you know? Anna [Paquin], Stephen [Moyer], and Alex I’m with a lot – and Denis O’Hare is the most phenomenal actor, the most incredible human being. So these are the people that I get to be around all day. It’s so lucky.”

As for Tara, fans were shocked as they watched her wave goodbye to Merlotte’s as well as Bon Temps. Though Rutina doesn’t know where her character is headed and if she’ll return to Bon Temps, she knows that Tara will definitely gain strength and power. When asked about her scenes with James Frain, who played insane vampire Franklin Mott, Rutina replied,

“That was amazing. James Frain is one of the most amazing actors that I’ve ever worked with. He’s very generous and I just had the time of my life. I had a very challenging season but it was awesome. If I could do it again, I would.”

Sam Trammell Speaks

Another shocker during the season finale was Sam’s transformation from good guy to a man with a lot of dark and deadly secrets. He did have some interesting news about the upcoming season: It seems that the myth of the shape shifter and their history as well as their powers are going to be explored. As for his character, he couldn’t give us any details, but did say that fans are split; some of them love the darker side of Sam and others miss his good guy appeal. He noted,

“Look, [Sam Merlotte] went on a bender a little bit and I got a little crazy – that’s just the bender. But truth be told, I had a different life before I moved to Bon Temps. You know for me as an actor it was some of the funnest stuff that I got to do on the show, getting to do those flashbacks where I shot those people – just because it’s such different stuff. It also adds a different dimension to Sam because Sam has kind of remade himself in Bon Temps and it is like something he’s built. And, you know, how strong is that fortress? How strong is it?”

Sam fans don’t have to wait long to see him on the screeen as he fimed a movie called Guns, Girls and Gambling with Gary OIdman, Christian Slater, Megan Park, and Dane Cook. However, fans do have to wait to find out what happened between Sam Merlotte and his brother Tommy.

While fans wait for the upcoming season True Blood to heat up their televisions sets in the summer of 2011, Kristin, Rutina and Sam are giving us something to watch while we wait. To see the video of Kristin and Rutina, click here. To see the video of Sam, click here.
