True Blood Season 3 Casting News: Meet Claudine

British actress Lara Pulver has been cast as the protective guardian for Sookie Stackhouse on HBO‘s True Blood.  This is a recurring role for the character, Claudine, who is actually Sookie‘s fairy godmother.

Lara was recently seen in the BBC-America series, Robin Hood.  In an article on The Ausiello Files, Michael Ausiello said that Ms. Pulver has not read any of Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire books, but she is aware that Claudine is a major player in two of them.

In the books, Claudine is sent to be Sookie‘s guardian angel.  Will there be fairy dust in the air?  We’ll have to wait and see how the role plays out in Season 3, which begins on June 13th.

True Blood Season 3 Casting News: A Few Additions

Well True Blood fans, today we have some casting news for you. We know that in season 3, episode one, which is entitled “Pack Of Wolves” introduces the character Missy who will be played by C.C. Sheffield. We also know that Season 3, episode two, which is entitled “It Hurts Me Too” will feature 3 new characters. A creepy biker who will be played by Andy Mackenzie, Rosie who will be played by Tess Alexandra Parker, and a vampire server who will be played by Ethan Stone.

To learn a little bit more about some of these actors we have found out that Andy Mackenzie has been seen in movies such as “The Zodiac” and “Shoot ‘Em Up”. The biker/werewolf that Andy will be playing in True Blood will be a menace to Sookie, but he will find out that she is not the easy victim he anticipated.

Tess Alexandra Parker has appeared in “The Ugly Truth” and “Wonderland”, while C.C. Sheffield’s character, Missy, is one of the college girls that will end up in bed with Jason Stackhouse. The girls try to get him all excited for some threesome fun by making out with each other. Unfortunately Jason doesn’t seem very enthusiastic about it. Jason seems to be haunted by what he did because he can’t seem to stop picturing them without bullet holes in their heads.

True Blood Season 3: A Roll Call Of Who’s New

bigger-photo-of-vampires_on_true_bloodSeason 3 of True Blood has now started shooting. However, Season 2 has left us with enough questions to ponder on until the show returns for Season 3 in 2010. For example, we are left wondering: Who took Bill? What is Sookie? Will Sam finally meet his real parents? What will happen to Jessica and Hoyt? Alan Ball has also assured fans that the Viking vampire, Eric Northman, will be a prominent character in Season 3 and apparently, he’ll be given loads of scenes with a new True Blood character, Yvetta, Fangtasia’s new Czechoslovakian dancer.

However, in spite of all these tantalizing tidbits, we won’t know the answers to our questions until Season 3 of True Blood returns in June. It’s certainly going to be a long wait. However, news has been forthcoming on new cast members who, in addition to vampires, will now include a vampire king, were-bikers, shapeshifters, werewolves and exotic dancers.

Readers of Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire Mysteries will be familiar with Alcide Heveraux. Alcide, a werewolf, will now be appearing in Season 3 of True Blood and he will be played by none other than Joe Mangianello, ending months of speculation among die-hard True Blood fans. Alcide is one of the most anticipated new roles in Season 3 of True Blood. He will apparently become Sookie’s new love interest later in the series.

The new cast of vampires expands to include the vampire king Russell Edgington. Readers of the Southern Vampire Mysteries will be familiar with Russell, the gay vampire king of Mississippi. He will be played by Denis O’Hare. Another new vampire joining True Blood is Talbot. He is Russell’s hunky, sarcastic boy-toy and will be played by Theo Alexander. Talbot is described as an “intensely beautiful male vampire [with] the buff good looks of an underwear model.”

Another vampire making an appearance in Season 3 is Franklin Mott, played by James Frain. Franklin will be replacing Eggs as Tara’s new main squeeze. He is described as “sexy, sexy, sexy, sexy.” But let us not forget our favorite vampiress, Pam, played by Kristin Bauer. Formerly a recurring member of True Blood’s cast, Bauer’s role as vampire Pam has been upgraded to regular status. Fans of vampire Pam are undoubtedly cheering at this latest news.

The number of shapeshifters in True Blood has also expanded in Bon Temps. In addition to Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell), we will now be seeing Sam’s brother, Tommy, played by Marshall Allman, another shapeshifter in the Merlotte family.

In addition to Tommy, we’ll also be seeing Joe Lee, Coot and Melinda, all shapeshifters we believe though not to sure yet about Joe Lee played by Cooper Huckabee, Sam Merlotte’s father. Melinda, shapeshifter and Sam’s mother, is played by J Smith-Cameron. Coot, a hunky werewolf biker and leader of the were-bikers, is played by Australian actor, Grant Bowler.

Lest we forget the humans, new additions to the True Blood cast include Shannon Lucio, Alfre Woodard and Gregg Daniel. Shannon will be playing Vampire Bill’s Civil War wife, who he was forced to leave behind after he was turned into a vampire. Alfre Woodard, formerly of Desperate Housewives, will be playing Lafayette’s mother. Meanwhile, Gregg Daniel will be playing Reverend Daniels, the church pastor who counsels Lettie Mae, Tara’s mother. Yvetta, Eric Northman’s new dancer at Fangtasia, will be played by Natasha Alam (The Bold and the Beautiful) who is definitely going to catch the viking vampire‘s eyes as they will have some steamy moments with each other.

With its expanded cast of fascinating, dangerous and libidinous vampires and werewolves, Season 3 promises to continue feeding our obsession with True Blood, delivering to us a Southern Gothic world steamier than the Louisiana climate.

True Blood Season 3 Casting News: Meet Shannon Welles

Bill-Compton-black-shirtMore casting news for season 3 of True Blood.  This time Michael Ausiello from EW.com is reporting that Shannon Welles (Roger Sterling’s Mad Men mama) has signed on to guest star in an early season 3 episode as a mysterious old woman who lives in the middle of nowhere.  Now as I recall in previous casting calls this mysterious old woman who lives in the middle of nowhere may be the woman named Olivia in casting calls that Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) is to encounter who she mistakenly believes to be her son.  Now with Bill being kidnapped, will this be an actual scene that he experiences or a flashback scene that he will remember while being tortured.  Either way all these casting news reports this past week is definitely building the frenzy and anticipation of the return of season 3 of True Blood.

cooper huckabeeThis time shocktillyoudrop.com has the latest True Blood season 3 casting news with information that Cooper Huckabee (Dexter, Staunton Hill, Space Cowboys, The Funhouse) has been cast in the recurring role of Joe Lee Mickens.  Previous casting calls state that Mr. Mickens is Melinda’s (Sam Merlotte‘s mother) dirt poor, poorly educated husband, who is amazed when he realizes Sam’s link to his wife’s early life.  It will be very interesting to see how this storyline will be played out and how bad they really are based on Sam‘s adoptive parents’ comments from season 2.

True Blood Season 3 Casting News: Lafayette’s Mom

Alfre WoodardToday it seems that all the casting news for Season 3 for True Blood is being announced as we have another to report.  This time The Hollywood Reporter is stating that Emmy award winning actress, Alfre Woodard has been cast to play the role of Lafayette‘s mother, Ruby Jean Reynolds.  According to casting calls she is to play an intensely religious and viciously homophobic woman who is clearly deranged and being cared for in an elite private facility.

Ms. Woodard is best know for her Emmy award winning performances in Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, the Practice, Golden Globe winning performance in Miss Evers’ Boys and a SAG Award for The Piano Lesson.  In other news this past week her daughter,  Mavis Spencer was selected as Miss Golden Globe 2010 for “The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards.”

True Blood Season 3 Casting News: Meet Franklin Mott

James FrainMore True Blood Season 3 casting news today as The Tudors star (as Thomas Cromwell) James Frain will be joining the cast of True Blood as Franklin Mott, Tara Thornton’s (Rutina Wesley) over-protective vampire squeeze, according to Michael Ausiello from EW.com.

The English actor, whose TV credits include recurring roles on Invasion (as Eli) and 24 (as Paul Raines), will debut in the second episode of the show’s upcoming third season.

The casting call describes Franklin Mott as a tall, dark, and handsome vampire who seems to have an “immediate and torrid” connection to Tara, but he may not be as warm and loving as he first appears.  It will be very interesting to see him in this role as he plays the sly, devious types very well.  I recall him in the role of J.F. Villifort in the 2002 edition of the “The Count of Monte Cristo” where his good demure hid a devious person.

This is very exciting news as Mr. Frain will certainly bring a interesting flair to the character that will be mesmerizing.

True Blood Season 3 Spoiler and Casting News: Calling Alcide

Bill-Sookie-red-dressMichael Ausiello from EW.com is reporting that, although we knew that Alan Ball will be casting the character Alcide for season 3 the search for an actor to play the pivotal part official got started today with the release of the following casting notice:

ALCIDE HERVEAUX: Good-looking, rough-around-the-edges, articulate, heroic, and decent, but not what he seems. He gets along well with Sookie. There’s even an attraction between the two. Very strong recurring.

Another character that True Blood wants to cast is that of the character named HOLLIS who is described to be a fortysomething African-American bouncer in a bar. Despite his scary appearance — he resembles an NFL lineman — he’s a nice guy who knows Alcide well and bursts in to help him when he is getting the crap beaten out of him. He’s suspicious of Sookie and delivers some unexpected bad news to Alcide about his fiancée, Debbie Pelt.

Also Alan Ball is looking for someone to play the character DR. ROBIDEAUX who is Arlene’s old-school obstetrician and is said to be in his 70’s.

TURK is described to be an obnoxious, drunk in a bar who taunts the apparently helpless Sookie.

Then there is the PASTOR who does the eulogy at Eggs’ funeral.

Episode 3 of Season 3 of True Blood will be entitled “It Hurts Me Too” and will be directed by Michael Lehmann and is written by Alexander Woo. Production began last week and is set to return in June.  True Blood fans cannot wait!
