Having fun in college as a True Blood fan from Tampa, FL!

Three Cheers for True Blood Star Anna Paquin’s Upcoming Films!

Anna Paquin has Three Films in Production:

Anna Paquin stars as Sookie Stackhouse in HBO's True BloodEven when she’s not going between True Blood’s Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) as Sookie Stackhouse or tending to her new twins, actress Anna Paquin always stays busy!

She currently has three films in production: Black Wings Has My Angel, Free Ride, and Straight A’s.

Black Wings Has My Angel is a crime thriller which is written and directed by Alfonso Pineda Ulloa. It is about an ex-convict (The Avengers’s Tom Hiddleston!) who teams up with a Mississppi call girl (Paquin) to assist him with an armored car robbery. With Lord of the Rings’s Elijah Wood also set to co-star, it sounds like one heck of a film!

Free Ride is about a 1970s single mom who attempts to take care of her two girls while being involved in the Florida drug trade. The indie film is written and directed by Shana Sosin, but not only does Paquin star in it, she is also producing! It also co-stars Cam Gigandet and Drea de Matteo (The Sopranos)  and is currently in post-production!

Straight A’s is a comedic drama telling the story of a drug addict who sees his mother’s ghost.

With so many different film genres, Paquin is sure to show off her talent, even if we do miss Sookie!

True Blood Cookbook Creator Marcelle Bienvenu Visits Louisiana – VIDEO

True Blood: Eats, Drinks, and Bites from Bon Temps Author Talks in Lake Charles, Louisiana

Marcelle Bienvenu recently visited Lake Charles, Louisiana to chat with fans and sign books to introduce her newest cookbook, True Blood: Eats, Drinks, and Bites from Bon Temps.

Having written Who’s Your Mama, Are You Catholic and Can You Make A Roux?,  Cajun Cooking For Beginners, and having a regular food column in the New Orleans Times-Picayune since 1984, Bienvenu was an expert on Louisiana-style cooking. However, when first contacted to make the cookbook, she didn’t know much about the show and all of its supernatural drama.

How to solve the problem? Bienvenu sat down and watched every single episode and took note of every mention of the Louisiana cooking.

Bienvenu knows a lot about food, having cooked with esteemed chefs like Emeril Lagasse, Paul Prudhomme, and Ella Brennan at the Commander’s Palace in New Orleans. She can even tell where a person’s from by their gumbo:

“In Baton Rouge, the roux is lighter,” she said. “Along the coast, they have seafood and on the prairies, it’s chicken and sausage.”

Thanks to her True Blood research, however, the HBO show’s cookbook is now complete with 75 Louisiana-approved recipes with clever names any True Blood fan might recognize. Some of Bienvenu’s favorites include, “Stake and Eggs,” “Tequila Moonrise” and “Wanted: Dead or Alive.”

Having first started cooking as a child, Bienvenu expressed her life-long love for the craft:

“I’ve been eating my way through life since.”

True Blood: Vampire Politics and Contribution to the Vampire Myth

The Fearless HBO Drama Adds to the Vampire Phenomena:

Chris_Meloni_As_Guardian_RomanTrue Blood has touched almost every taboo topic from sex to voodoo. It’s no wonder they chose politics and religion for the premise of season five!

The complex vampire politics that dominated this most recent season were brought to life through the new character of Roman Zimojic played by Christopher Meloni. This terrifying Authority leader fiercely believed in a moral coexistence between the vampires and humans and carried out his belief through the vampire movement of “mainstreaming.”

The political aspect of the show seemed to come at an appropriate time for creator Alan Ball. He said:

“Some of the things being said by some people during the Republican primary were so horrifying to me that I thought, ‘What if vampires wanted a theocracy? What would that look like?’ Whenever anybody thinks they know what God wants and wants to apply that to government, whether Americans or the Taliban, it’s kind of a terrifying thing.”

Although religion had been touched on  in past seasons, such as Steve Newlin’s (Michael McMillian) ardent Fellowship of the Sun religious group and Jesus’s (Kevin Alejandro) family voodoo, the vampire queen Lilith and her effects on the vampires of the show bring the fifth season to a whole new level.

True Blood continues to add to the vampire myth with its concept of vampires in a group as a race living among humans. Early myths portray vampires as simply humans under an evil possession, according to Mark Jenkins in his book Vampire Forensics. In Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the vampire is demonic, he abuses humans, and is quite sexual, preying on women. The myths seem to change and develop as they are passed down to other people and cultures.

In True Blood, however, as vampires suddenly “come out of the coffin” and live among humans in modern day society, they have broken the established order. Although the vampires of the show are not demonic as they have been portrayed to be in other vampire stories, they represent a mistreated, misunderstood race, especially when compared to other species (shape-shifters, fairies, and even humans) who have also shown how they cruel they can be.

As great as a concept as it is, the provocative HBO drama was not the first to introduce a vampire society. It’s also seen in Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire. In her Vampire Chronicles, readers drew parallels between the vampires and the gay community of real life. Rice retorted that her book was “bigger than any gay allegory, and so is any gay allegory,” going on to explain:

“Gender influences everything but determines nothing! Vampires transcend gender. We as a modern people transcend gender, though we can never escape it. Ours is a time for which there are no precedents with regard to gender and freedom. Look in vain to ancient Rome. Look in vain to the Middle Ages. There has never been so much affluence, scientific knowledge and so much common awareness of violence and injustice. There has never been so much real wealth for so many, combined with instantaneous media confrontation of poverty and suffering. Some of us see life as a horror story, but a horror story with great, great meaning.”

True Blood also draws similar parallels to real society roles, politics, and religion throughout all five of its seasons, sometimes conjuring up more mischief than the characters can manage! With all of this behind them, can’t wait to see what the upcoming sixth season will bring to them!

True Blood’s Big Season 5 Finale And Upcoming Season 6 Hints! – Video:

HBO’s True Blood Creator Alan Ball and Director Michael Lehmann Discuss the Epic Episode and Season 6

Eric & Sookie S5

After seeing the thrilling, question-raising, True Blood Season 5 finale, I knew I wasn’t the only one to be sad when Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) met his unfortunate end at Eric Northman‘s (Alex Skarsgård) hands! True Blood creator Alan Ball gushes that writing the scene was “emotional” for himself as well:

“I get really upset when I write scenes where characters that I love die.”

Going on to express how hard it was to write, complimenting the spectacular portrayal by actor Denis O’Hare,  he also adds,

“…but it is True Blood, and he’s done some pretty heinous things.”

Ball knew Eric would have to be the one to do it since Russell had “destroyed Eric’s life” by originally killing his human family. He says:

“It’s blood vengeance. It’s primal, it’s mythic, and all of those things that can do well on a show like True Blood.”

Director Michael Lehmann also notes:

“It’s really fun and interesting that Sookie’s fear is what draws Eric there. That’s kind of a great moment, and that Eric comes in and completely surprises Russell in his moment of glory.”

With Season 6 in the future, Ball hints that questions raised in Season 5 will be addressed, including more information about Warlow and how Jason will deal with it.

As for the big final moment with Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and the blood in the Season 5 finale, Ball explains it as:

“a gigantic challenge for Sookie, because for all intents and purposes, she sees him die and then be reborn as something alien and terrifying.”

Lehmann points out that “it’s pretty clear where Eric is emotionally and where he stands.” However, he wonders most about Bill, since “he went so dark at the end of this episode.

Stay tuned for True Blood Season 6 to find out!

The Good Wife Brings Back True Blood’s Vampire King of Mississippi Denis O’Hare – PHOTOS:

Denis O’Hare goes from the Face of Anarchy as True Blood‘s Russell Edgington to the Face of the Law in The Good Wife

True Blood actor Denis O’Hare never seems to fail to exert his power over others: from the chaos-inducing, fairy blood-loving, 3,000-year-old vampire in True Blood to the voice of justice as a judge on The Good Wife, he sure makes others listen! However, even with his busy career, he still makes time for Twitter!

Denis O'Hare and The Good Wife Co-stars

On August 28th, Mr. O’Hare tweeted a funny photo of himself and The Good Wife co-star Linda Emond and co-star and episode director Josh Charles. He then posted another picture of himself with other fellow actors Julianna Margulies and Brian Dennehy two days later.

Denis O'Hare and The Good Wife Co-Stars

Denis O’Hare will be reprising his role as Judge Charles Abernathy now that his True Blood-filming days have come to an unfortunate end. He was seen on six other cases on The Good Wife from 2009 to 2012, so we’re sure glad to see him back! No details have been released regarding this particular episode as of yet, but we’re hoping maybe he’ll have an encounter with Carrie Preston, also seen on True Blood as the sassy Merlotte’s waitress Arlene, who also had a six-episode experience on The Good Wife as Elsbeth Tascioni, an eccentric lawyer.

What will Denis O’Hare bring to the courtroom? The Good Wife Season 4 begins Sunday, Sept. 30 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. Tune in to find out!

True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten on his Career and Jason’s Progression During Season 5

Ryan Kwanten Talks About True Blood’s Fifth Season Finale:

Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) and Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin)

From finishing filming the fifth season of True Blood in May to flying out to London to the Olympic Games more recently, 35-year-old Ryan Kwanten never seems to stop moving. He recently starred in an indie Australian comedy Not Suitable for Children and up next he’ll be working on Sex and Sunsetsa Canadian comedy and “one of the best scripts” he says he’s read in a long time.

With the season finale of True Blood approaching, he notes how his character, Jason Stackhouse, copes when learning about his family’s death:

“It did affect him very profoundly, to the point that it really begins to shift the very fiber of who he is and everything that he thought that he was.”

Adding that this new information impacts Jason for the rest of the season, he also hints that although Jason has evolved as a person through the preceding seasons, he may revert back to his old self with all he is going through now.

This season, Jason is also getting more involved with other characters’ plots such as those of Hoyt and Sookie and the fae people. Kwanten has been loving this, mentioning:

“I love sort of randomly appearing in someone else’s storyline and maybe causing more chaos and more questions than answers.”

Speaking of creating more questions, he also reveals that this season finale will be a “more classic type of finale,” with a cliff hanger at the end rather than the usual True Blood style of tying things up neatly in the last few episodes.

As seen through Jason’s obvious lovable charms and naivety,  Kwanten’s love for good characters is what drives him to each project. Having his great looks and acting versatility gives him lots of opportunity, but he explains:

“I’ve been blessed with True Blood with the great writing, and that is more an inspiration and more what drives me. If a script doesn’t entice me at all, I’ve got no desire to do it because I’m not going to be fully committed to it. On the other hand, if it does drive me, I’ll do whatever I can in my power to make that film a success.”

It’s refreshing to find that Kwanten is happy to be acting for the love of it rather than being role-driven. Thankfully HBO’s True Blood set him up to be in a position of loving what he’s doing and getting paid well to boot.

Can’t wait to see what he creates in the future!

Paquin and Moyer Expecting True Blood Twins

More True Blood Twins to Arrive This Fall:

Anna Paquin and Stephen MoyerUnlike their characters Sookie Stackhouse and Bill Compton, the married True Blood co-stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer seem to be living quite happily ever after together, as shown by the announcement of their upcoming arrival of twins. The True Blood actors have been married for two years since first meeting through the show and are excited to add their two children to their family of four consisting of Moyer, Paquin, and Moyer’s two children from another relationship: Lilac, 10, and Billy, 12. Moyer says,

“I love my kids so much. And I think that the fact that Anna is pregnant just adds more crazy to the bundle of fun.”

Amazingly enough, these twins to come are not the first to arrive on the True Blood scene. Moyer and Paquin’s co-star Sam Trammell has 11-month-old twins, Winston and Gus, with his girlfriend Missy Yager. Trammell seemed happy to help the expecting couple, saying, “I’m so excited for them. We sent them a special gift. It’s so interesting that True Blood has become, like, the ‘twins’ show.”

As far as advice for his friends, Trammell says: “It’s harder, having twins, but it’s all we know. So we’re trying to impart some decent wisdom. I told them to hold on tight!”

We wish them the best of luck!

Majorino joins the True Blood family after having recurring roles on both Big Love and Veronica Mars, as well as recently appearing in episodes of both Bones and Castle. True Blood’s Christopher Meloni Spills on His Role:

Christopher Meloni as True Blood's RomanWhat with the steadily approaching arrival of True Blood‘s fifth season premiere on June 10, HBO has been releasing clips and images featuring the former Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star. Christopher Meloni, shown impeccably dressed in a suit, will be playing the authoritative, 500-year-old vampire Roman.

Although few details have been revealed about the vampire’s status between the good guys and the bad guys, Meloni says Roman is a “man with an agenda,” and was able to “smack around (Alexander) Skarsgård and (Stephen) Moyer.” With just this being enough to keep fans on the edge of their seats, he also adds, “I f**k someone else up, and I have a girlfriend, so that’s fun.” What this could mean for Eric and Bill, who knows…

When comparing the experience to his last television appearance, he notes, “We don’t have as many werepanthers.” Appreciating the new atmosphere, he also ironically added, “It’s been very freeing, except for the fact that I get off the show where I had to wear a coat and tie every day and they put me in a suit and tie every day.”

True Blood Adds a New Writer For Season 5!

Angela Robinson Joins Team for Episodes 505 and 511:

True Blood Season 5

Gianna Sobol (insider extraordinaire at True Blood headquarters) recently interviewed Angela Robinson, True Blood’s newest writer. Robinson opens up on her role as a writer for two Season 5 episodes:

Gianna: What were you up to before you joined us here in Bon Temps?

Angela: I was working as a Co-EP on Hung.

Gianna: Were you a fan of the show before you joined the team?

Angela: I was! Although, I wasn’t up to date.

Gianna: What’s it been like joining a show already in its 5th season?

Angela: It’s been really fun and exciting. Alan is awesome to work with and the other writers have been very welcoming and are insanely talented. I’m in prep for my first episode now, so I am just now meeting the cast and crew.

Gianna: Which episodes are you writing?

Angela: I will be writing episodes 505 and 511.

Gianna: What’s been the most challenging part of the new job?

Angela: I think getting a feel for the tone of the show and the voices of the characters. I’ve always been on shows since the beginning, so it’s a different ballgame to come into a show where everything is already established and figuring out how to do your thing within the established parameters.

Gianna: Who’s your favorite character to write for and why?

Angela: I’ve only written one episode — but so far, I really like writing for Sookie, I enjoy her struggle to retain a sense of normalcy in her increasingly dangerous life. And I like writing Jessica, I think the dichotomy between her natural goodness and the dark side of her vampireness is fun to explore.

Gianna: How is True Blood different from other shows you’ve worked on?

Angela: It’s way mellower, and the hours are great!  Of course, I haven’t entered production yet.  Ask me again in a month.

Gianna: Any fun hints you can drop about the coming season?

Angela: I am terrified to utter a peep because there are so many rabid fans out there, so I am going to remain mum on that.  Suffice to say it will be awesome.

Video: Joe Manganiello on True Blood Season 5 and Love Life

Manganiello Talks Alcide and his Search for Love:

Joe Manganiello at Duracell event 2012 (credit Hollywood.com)To make the steadily approaching premiere of True Blood‘s fifth season even more exciting, Joe Manganiello dishes on what a large part Alcide Herveaux will play in the first six episodes. Gushing about a large character expansion, he says he’s worked more on Season 5 than he has in any of the prior seasons, stating that:

“The writers have given me some amazing stuff to play around with.”

Manganiello also mentions that Alcide’s actions will go much further than the character portrayal of Alcide in Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse novels, both when it comes to action, and romance.

As for his personal life, this werewolf stud is on the prowl! After a devastating split from his fiancée Audra Marie in September 2011, the 35-year-old remains hopeful. Referring to the dating scene as “fun” and “exciting,” he’s enjoying taking his time, however, he’s ready to settle down should the “right situation” come along. He says he does want to be married with kids someday, but he’s waiting for the right woman. We wish him the best of luck finding the lucky girl!
