True Blood Season 4 Spoiler: Denis O’Hare to Return?

The King Has Entered the Building

True Blood's Denis O'Hare (Russell Edgington)Denis O’Hare recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he may be returning to True Blood. This is very exciting news since he had such a great season with the show last June. Many of the most memorable moments from Season 3 were provided by O’Hare’s character, Russell Edgington, the vampire King of Mississippi.  Speaking of returning to True Blood, he shares:

“I left them on a high. They have been very, very nice to me, and they tell me that they think I’m going to come back… And I’m waiting. We’ll see what happens.”

While he was very close-lipped about what the story line would be surrounding his return, True Blood fans are never disappointed with Alan Ball‘s creative mind.  The only thing he did say about it is that it would be something believable, but that fans never would have put together.

Current Projects

O’Hare is keeping busy these days.  He is in the recently released film, The Eagle, which stars Channing Tatum. He will also start working this month with Leonardo DiCaprio in a Clint Eastwood movie, titled J. Edgar Hoover.

This True Blood fan would be very excited to see the King put a hurting on Bon Temps.  He always seems to steal the show with his crazy Southern antics!  Season four is just around the corner!

True Blood’s King of Mississippi Will Be Back

Denis O’Hare Talks to The TV Junkie about His Current Projects:

Denis O'Hare plays the King of Mississippi on True BloodWe may have season four spoilers of HBO‘s True Blood dancing in our heads, but we certainly haven’t forgotten how season three ended, especially for Denis O’Hare‘s character, Russell Edgington. Of course we don’t think he died given that he didn’t meet the true death before our eyes, but how long will he be encased in cement, slowly going insane? That’s up to Alan Ball and the genius writers, but O’Hare himself confidently told The TV Junkie “I am so not dead.  I’ll be back…I hope!”

Other Projects:

O’Hare left the King of Mississippi frozen in cement to play a tasteless psychiatrist in HBO’sBored to Death,’ as well as a Roman soldier in the new film ‘The Eagle‘. ‘Bored to Death’ is a comedy series revolving around a writer who moonlights as a private detective, and the show returns for its third season this September. Regarding his role as Dr. Worth, O’Hare stated “it was so hilarious to be a completely inappropriate psychiatrist. I was in heaven.”

The Eagle‘ hit theaters February 11th and stars O’Hare as Roman soldier Lutorius. The film is about a young Roman soldier in Roman-ruled Britain who endeavors to honor his father’s memory by finding his lost legion’s golden emblem. Regarding the movie and filming in Budapest, O’Hare exclaimed:

“He (the director) has made an incredibly exciting, sexy, and yet historically accurate movie about what it must be like to be in 180 A.D. in the wilds of England, to be a Roman soldier.  It’s a huge movie… Budapest is a really hip, fun, young city. It feels incredibly alive, it feels very very active…I don’t drink anymore but if I still drank, I would have had an incredible time!”

Check out the video below to see O’Hare’s full interview.  ‘Bored to Death’ season three premieres in September and ‘The Eagle’ has been in theaters a little over a week. You can also see him in ‘The Good Wife‘ as Judge Charles Abernathy. Congratulations to O’Hare on his new projects!  Of course, we are the most excited to see him reprise his role in season four of True Blood (maybe!).

Denis O’Hare’s Eagle Lands February 11

O’Hare as a Legionnaire in The Eagle

Should I mention what a fan I am of movies with Roman soldiers in them? I am holding back the inner squeee! Barely. The February 11 theatrical release of The Eagle is all the more thrilling because True Blood‘s Denis O’Hare stars in the film in the role of Lutorius. The movie also stars Channing Tatum and is directed by Kevin MacDonald.

About The Eagle

The story of The Eagle is loosely based on the Legio IX Hispana(the Ninth Spanish Legion) which was eventually posted to what is now Great Britain and is thought to have disappeared in about AD 117. The movie is an adaptation of Rosemary Sutcliff’s 1954 novel The Eagle of the Ninth. According to MovieWeb.com:

In 140 AD, two men – master and slave – venture beyond the edge of the known world on a dangerous and obsessive quest that will push them beyond the boundaries of loyalty and betrayal, friendship and hatred, deceit and heroism….

20 years earlier, Rome’s 5,000-strong Ninth Legion, under the command of Flavius Aquila, marched north carrying their treasured golden Eagle emblem. They never returned; Legion and Eagle simply vanished into the mists.

. . . Flavius’ son Marcus (Tatum), determined to restore the tarnished reputation of his father, is galvanized into action. Accompanied only by his slave Esca (Bell), Marcus sets out into the vast and dangerous highlands of Scotland – to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father’s memory, and retrieve the hallowed Eagle. Along the way Marcus realizes that the mystery of his father’s disappearance may well be linked to the secret of his own slave’s identity and loyalty – a secret all the more pressing when the two come face-to-face with the warriors of the fearsome Seal Prince (Tahar Rahim).

True Blood Sweeps CampBlood Horror Poll

True Blood Comes Out on Top

true blood logoIt looks like True Blood is making an impact on the minds of horror fans!

CampBlood.org, a site dedicated to all things in horror entertainment conducted a reader poll, highlighting the best and worst in horror entertainment this year. And in the TV categories – HBO‘s vampire drama came out on top of the best categories:

Best Horror TV Show of the Year – True Blood got a whopping 52% of the vote.

Horror Hunk of the YearJoe Manganiello as Alcide barely scraped by runner up and fellow cast-mate Alexander Skarsgård. But really, that’s just a win-win.

Horror Queer of the Year – King of Mississippi, Russell Edgington. And he beat out the actor who plays him, Denis O’Hare.

Gross-Out Moment of the YearBill (Stephen Moyer) & Lorena’s (Mariana Klaveno) Sex Scene. That head-turning moment (haha…) beat out a scene from the terrifying scene from the film The Human Centipede.

Most Memorable Horror Moment of the Year – Russell Edgington’s Spine Ripping Newscast. That was a stunning moment. It beat out the Bill & Lorena sex scene by quite a bit.

Check out the blog to relive some of those awesome moments. And here’s hoping season 4 gives us just as many memorable scenes and characters.

Creator Alan Ball and True Blood Cast Members Talk About Season 4

Talk of Season 4 is in the Air

Joe Manganiello and Anna Paquin as Alcide and SookieThe website Digital Spy recently gathered together several articles featuring creator Alan Ball and cast members Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) and Rutina Wesley (Tara Thorton) discussing season 4. While none of them are specific about things happening in season 4,  there is quite a bit of hint dropping!

Alan Ball told TV Line he suspects that Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello) has already fallen for our heroine Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin). However, he maintains that even if Sookie had mutual feelings for him, they would have quite a bit to overcome as a couple.  But anything is possible, especially considering the state of Sookie’s love life at the end of last season.

A Dark and Crazy Season

Stephen MoyerCast member Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) recently hinted to E! Online that there will be a new dark presence in season 4 originated by Denis O’Hare (Russell Edgington) in Season 3:

“We have a new presence that will be a new kind of spectre that represents darkness.  We had the wonderful Denis O’Hare as the king of Mississippi last year who is gone at the end of season 3, so we got something else coming in to replace that darkness, which is going to be really interesting, I think, this whole new topic we have not covered.”

I hope Denis O’Hare comes back as Russell because they left the story line open and Denis himself has hinted that he might be back this season.

Rutina WesleyRutina Wesley (Tara Thornton) recently spoke to Access Hollywood and has described season 4 as crazy and exciting. She also said that the new season will bring changes for Tara. She hopes that the character will gain power and strength. At the end of season three Tara actually left Bon Temps. So does that mean Tara comes back? Rutina didn’t answer that inquiry but she did say:

“That is the big question. I can’t tell you that. I love my job too much”

So Truebies, what do you think about the teasers Alan, Stephen, and Rutina gave us? Does it make you hopeful for the new season? Tell us in the comments section!

Will Season Four Pave the Road to the Return of Russell Edgington?

True Blood Season 4 Spoilers and Speculation:

Denis O'Hare as Russell Edgington in Season 3 True Blood (HBO,inc.)

Season 4 of True Blood premieres June 12, 2011– just 5 short months from now. Fans (including me!) are waiting on pins and needles to see what’s going to happen next to our favorite characters and to finally get answers to some looming questions that came up at the end of season 3.

Some of the questions fans hope to find answers to include:

  • What’s in store for vampire Bill Compton(Stephen Moyer) as he faces off with the much-more-powerful Vampire Queen of Mississippi (Evan Rachel Wood)?  Also, will there ever be a Sookie and Bill relationship again?
  • After taking sewing shears to her lovely locks, where did Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley) and her cool-looking convertible go–and is she coming back or will she be on an extended road trip?
  • Has Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who recently discovered she is part-faery, actually gone to the land of the Fae and will she return to what must seem a very cold ‘real’ world?

Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) the Vampire King Of Mississippi, is yet another True Blood character favorite that fans want to know about. Russell was encased in concrete, gangland style, by Bill Compton with an assist from Eric Northman, at the end of season 3.  Eric was buried ‘alive’ under a huge amount of cement by Bill as well, seemingly forever to be encased in the hardened concrete but as her maker, he was able to summon Pam (Kristen Bauer van Straten) to help him. I wonder if she had to ruin another pair of pumps?

The first thought that crossed my mine was it is easy to picture Russell getting out with the help of an unknown source–perhaps Eric. I think it was Eric after he himself was released from the concrete. It is no secret Russell has caused lots of craziness for the main characters for husband Talbot’s killing so he could be back to cause more drama for everyone at some as yet unknown point.

It seems like a great idea that Alan Ball and True Blood‘s talented writing team kept the storyline open so that Russell may show back up sometime after the season premiere. Rumours are swirling that Denis O’Hare will indeed return as the ruthless Russell with his plotline intertwined with a filmmaker trying to get vampire attacks on camera and put them on the internet. Being a fan I can’t wait till season 4, even though June seems a long time from now.

Top 10 Performances in TV

True Blood Makes the List

Whenever I think of my top favorite moments in TV during 2010, True Blood is always amongst that list, but I might be a little biased after all. Let’s face it, though – there are too many memorable moments from the talented cast of actors to keep it to just ten!

Their Top 10

The Top 10 TV Performances according to the Huntsville Examiner seems to agree with True Blood fans as well. Starting at Number 9 is our favorite Vampire King Russell Edgington played by Denis O’Hare. Denis blew into the season with all the corruption the South can offer. His performance during this season was truly remarkable and will be remembered as one of the most fantastic in True Blood history.

The next time True Blood appears on this list is at Number 7 for the lovely and obsessive Lorena who was played by Mariana Klaveno. Lorena played a pivotal character this season, as she expertly persuaded Bill to come back to her and work for the King, and her constant jealousy of Sookie Stackhouse. Lorena showed her true colors this season and Mariana did an outstanding job giving us someone to both hate and feel sorry for at the same time.

Feeling Left Out

These were the only two performances that came from True Blood to make the list. Other shows included in the Top 10 were Grey’s Anatomy and Mad Men. If you were writing a list of the top 10 TV performances in 2010, which of those would be True Blood inspired? Tell us in the comments section!

True Blood Receives Best of 2010 Accolades for Season 3

The Best Stuff on TV

True Blood Season 3Every television show on air has high and low points throughout its season. However, True Blood has managed to have some of the best characters and moments of 2010 with only half the number of episodes that a regular network show produces. While our favorite show may not be recognized at the Golden Globes this year, it certainly has not gone unnoticed by the rest of the media, particularly online. Earlier this month I reported that Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård) made a top ten character of 2010 list.  Today I am proud to report even more accolades the show and its cast of characters have received this year.

Did that Really Just Happen?: Russell Edgington on the Evening News

If your lover of 700 years was staked by a vampire who claimed his loyalty to you, what would you do? The King of Mississippi, Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) found himself in this position after Eric Northman reduced his consort Talbot (Theo Alexander) to vampire pulp in episode nine, “Everything is Broken.” After seeing his raw grief over Talbot’s remains one could only wonder exactly what would happen to Eric. But no one could have imagined the scene that unfolded at the end of the episode. One minute, a news anchor is reporting on the VRA and the next, his spine is being ripped out before Russell goes on a diatribe about how inferior humans are. Insert expletives here.

This unexpected moment which rivals Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Lorena’s (Mariana Klaveno) head-twisting sex scene earned a Boxee award from Stuff.co.nz for Best Scene of 2010, a Best Performance of 2010 from TV Guide, and a Most Shocking Moment of 2010 from MSNBC and the Today show. Relive that moment by watching the clip below:

Most Under-Appreciated Character of 2010: Lafayette

In season three Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) was forced back into the V trade, had to deal with Tara’s (Rutina Wesley) grief over Eggs (Mehcad Brooks), not to mention his crazy mother Ruby Jean (Alfre Woodard), a slowly blossoming relationship with her nurse Jesus (Kevin Alejandro), and surviving calling everyone’s favorite pink vampire Pam (Kristen Bauer Van Straten) a hooker. Through it all, Lafayette has managed to keep his unique sense of style and his job at Merlotte’s.Nelsan Ellis as Lafayette

Listandgrades.com ranked our favorite cook and entrepreneur number two on their list. The character of Lafayette was actually killed in the course of the first Sookie Stackhouse novel. But because of his personality and popularity, series creator Alan Ball couldn’t bear to do the same onscreen and we love him for it. True Blood would never be the same without you Lafayette and we can’t wait to see what trouble you get into in season 4.

Favorite Guest Star: James Frain

James Frain as Franklin MottPrior to meeting Franklin Mott (James Frain) the vampires of True Blood could be described as a fairly cool bunch, no pun intended. This new addition to the vampire ranks however made even Lorena look a little saner. The emotionally unhinged Franklin could have been a very dark character. But in the hands of James Frain, Franklin became a crazy, but love-sick vampire with a thing for Tara.

A vampire who operated between menacing and tearful was the last thing we expected from creatures that usually get a kick out of causing humans pain. Easily one of the best providers of comic relief this season, James earned Spoiler TV’s Favorite Guest Star Award for 2010. Though Franklin Mott may be gone forever, we’ll always have the memories. Who knows? Maybe he might come back in some form. We know James Frain is game.

Top Ten TV Show of 2010: True Blood

In just twelve episodes True Blood went from Bon Temps to Shreveport to Jackson and back again. We met a werewolf named Alcide (Joe Manganiello), saw Pam cry, watched Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) stand up for herself and kick both Bill and Eric to the curb and that’s just for starters!

There is no question that True Blood has been chalk full of goodness this year from watching sweet Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) descend slowly back into a dark past to watching Arlene (Carrie Preston) try to deal with carrying a murderer’s baby. Oh and who could forget Jason’s (Ryan Kwanten) attempts to become a deputy sheriff in Bon Temps?

It was for these moments and many others that the Houston Chronicle named True Blood number six on its Top TV Shows of 2010. They also made mention of Russell Edgington’s appearance on the news bringing the count to four mentions. Season three was full of a lot of highs this year making us wonder how exactly Alan Ball and co will top it for season 4.  But one thing is for certain, it will be nothing short of fangtastic!

True Blood’s Denis O’Hare Talks Broadway Show Closing, New Projects

‘Vampire King’ Remains Upbeat and In Demand

Denis O'Hare as 'Elling' and Brendan Fraser as 'Kjell' in Elling on Broadway

You may have heard the disappointing news that Denis O’Hare‘s (Russell Edgington) Broadway show Ellingclosed after just nine days. Despite especially glowing reviews for O’Hare’s performance in the title role, there simply was not a large enough audience filling the Ethel Barrymore theatre in which it was playing.

This is how the New York Times online announced the closing:

The new play Elling,” which opened on Sunday and stars Denis O’Hare (a Tony Award winner for “Take Me Out”) and Brendan Fraser (“The Mummy” movies), will close this Sunday after 22 previews and nine regular performances, a spokeswoman for the production said on Thursday. The play, about two roommates from a mental institution who are adjusting to life on the outside in Oslo, had a well-received run in London; the Broadway version…drew praise from theater critics for the performances — particularly Mr. O’Hare’s — but mixed reviews over all.

Mr. O’Hare, who is enjoying more success as a vampire king on the HBO series
“True Blood,” was among the first to put out the word that the show was closing. In a note on his Facebook page he wrote:

“If you want to see Elling, ya better hurry. We are being closed down this Sunday … yup. Our producers will go no further. Happy Thanksgiving!”

In the video (below) True Blood’s Russell Edgington is joined by his ‘Elling’ co-star Jennifer Coolidge, for a wide-ranging and rollicking  interview. With a wickedly deadpan sense of humor, O’Hare discusses the closing of his Broadway show and his full plate of upcoming projects as well as a host of other very diverse and often quite amusing subjects.

Upcoming Projects for O’Hare

Fans looking forward to more of  the upbeat and somewhat offbeat O’Hare need not wait long. He plays a Roman solider in the film,The Eagle’, due to be released in February 2011, as well as returning to the hit CBS series ‘The Good Wife‘ in his role as liberal judge, ‘Charles Abernathy’.

We here at TrueBloodNet.com wish Denis all the best in what are sure to be his numerous new endeavors!  Also, we hope to not have to wait too long to find out the ultimate fate of one of True Blood’s most memorable characters,Vampire King Russell Edgington!
