A True Blood Newbie Teases her Character Over the Airwaves

Janina Gavankar Talks True Blood on LA Talk Radio

Janina Gavankar

The newest blood to join the True Blood cast is Janina Gavankar and she’s already dropping hints about Season 4. Fans will come to know Janina as Luna, the newest shifter in Bon Temps as well as her being the first Native American character on the show. She chatted with her good friend Sheena on LA’s talk radio program the Sheena Metal Experience during  the two year anniversary of her radio show.

Though she wasn’t into weres and vampires when she was a girl, Janina looks forward to reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels to see who the Luna in the books is, although she wants to create her own version of the character. The actress who is of mixed Indian and Dutch descent even enlisted the help of make up artists to changed her skin tone to add a red tone she doesn’t naturally have in order to really show the character’s Native American blood.

As with all shape-shifters and weres on the HBO series, Janina does have to get naked, but she isn’t too bothered by it. For her it’s all about the character and the fact that transforming from one vessel to another is the shape-shifter way. She does reveal that viewers will get a lot more insight and history on shape-shifters and she even gets a scene with shifter Tommy played by Marshall Allman. That’s right Truebies! When we left the season finale, Tommy’s fate was unknown, but it looks like Janina has spilled the beans and fans everywhere are relieved that she did!

All About the Music

Aside from loving her character, what else does she love about True Blood? The music, of course! Janina herself is talented singer and she, like all fans of the show, sees how much the music influences and creates the scenes we all know and love.

It seems the world of the shape shifters is expanding with Season 4 and with Janina’s dedication to creating a well developed character, the who’s better competition between vamps and shifters will be heating up.

Spoilers: True Blood Season 4 Update

Fresh News About the Upcoming 4th Season of True Blood:

True Blood's Stephen Moyer & Alexander SkarsgårdSpoiler alert!  Alan Ball, creator of HBO‘s beloved mega-hit True Blood,  has confirmed to Michael Ausiello (The Ausiello Files on Entertainment Weekly and EW.com) that “The honeymoon’s over” for Hoyt and Jessica.  What exactly does that mean?  Are they over for good?  We’ll just have to wait and find out in June.

A big storyline this season: Secretly filmed vampire attacks will be going viral, by way of YouTube, effectively throwing yet another wrench into the already strained Vampire/Human relations.  Looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of Nan!  You know, Nan Flannigan (Jessica Tuck), the slicked-back hair, severe-looking (and acting) representative of the ever-mysterious “Authority”.  The one who leaves everyone shaking in their boots.  That one.

Regarding the King of Mississippi, Russell Edgington (played by Denis O’Hare), he is expected back at some point, but whether it will be in Season 4 is uncertain.  He has no contract as of yet.

Our favorite kick-ass, no nonsense (yet very feminine and lady-like) vamp, Pam De Beaufort (Kristin Bauer van Straten) gets a new toy.  This one happens to like being bitten, is male, and “hot and stupid”.  Go Pam!

Sam Merlotte‘s little brother, Tommy Mickens (Marshall Allman) will be receiving “an intriguing offer from a prospector”, and we’ll be introduced to a new character: a Spanish-speaking tough girl, in episodes two through six.

It’s probably safe to say that Season 4 of True Blood is one of the most highly anticipated — Witches, Weres, Shifters, Vamps, Fae, a heated love triangle (possibly a quadrangle?!), and oodles & oodles more.  What are you looking forward to?

It’s All Gym and No Overindulging for True Blood this Holiday Season

Cast Members Think About Every Little Bite:

Tara Thornton, played by Rutina Wesley, enjoys some Hunter's Souffle in Season 2Eggnog, cookies, seafood chowder, brownies, pies, pork tenderloin, champagne, ham, turkey, your mom’s famous garlic rolls with butter, red wine, hunter’s souffle, cheese and crackers, Reese’s peanut butter cups (miniatures) and scallops wrapped in bacon. Nothing is off limits at the holidays, and everything tastes that much better because it’s the one time each year we all allow ourselves to overindulge. ”Overindulge” may not be the best word, actually. Gorge sounds more appropriate.

But no matter what you call it, if you’re a member of the cast of True Blood, especially those that spend a lot of time without some or all of your clothes on, gorging is 100% out of the question.  Rutina Wesley, who plays Tara Thornton on the show says:

“Well, it’s ‘True Blood,’ so I’ve been working out all summer because I’m just preparing myself for whatever. I get the script and say ‘Oh – Gym. Okay.’”

Season 4 started filming less than a month ago, so there will be no substantial holiday break for the people who make our favorite show on HBO. Basically the short holiday break means there’s too big of a risk for overindulging and not having enough time to work things off at the gym before returning to filming the hit HBO series.

Kristin Bauer van Straten (vampire Pam) doesn’t need to be reminded about what the repercussions are for celebrating too much:

“If you do indulge, you get really nervous and guilty almost instantly. It’s almost not even worth it. Basically, when I go to a wardrobe fitting I get SO disciplined for the next seven days or two weeks.”

Although there is typically much more focus on the female body being slim, Kristin says there is one definite bonus to being a woman on the show:

“The guys are naked more often than we are, which I think is really awesome”

We aren’t overly concerned about the holidays causing too much of an issue for our favorite TV actors’ physiques. Happy holidays True Blood cast members and Truebies!!

SPOILERS: True Blood Season 4 is Going to be Crazy!

Cast Members Spill Details about Witches and Lots of Fighting:

We all remember how Season 3 ended. Sookie went off to fairy land, Sam shot someone or something, Bill squared off with Queen Sophie-Anne, the King of Louisiana took a cement bath, Eric escaped the cement bath, Tara drove off pseudo ‘Thelma & Louise’ style, and Lafayette discovered his inner witch. Cast members Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte), Rutina Wesley (Tara Mae Thornton), and Joe Manganiello (Alcide Herveaux) opened up to Access Hollywood about Season 4‘s craziness, admitting there’s going to be a lot of fighting and at least one cliffhanger from season 3 gets solved in the first episode.

Shoot em Up:

Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) and younger brother Tommy (Marshall Allman) have a heated discussion in season 3 of True BloodWhen we last saw Trammell’s character, Sam Merlotte, he was firing a gun with a lot of rage. Fans assumed shape-shifter Sam was taking aim at his younger brother, Tommy Mickens (Marshall Allman), who had helped himself to big brother’s hard earned (or maybe not?) cash. But, it’s possible that Alan Ball could have a shocking twist in store for us. Will he go the not so obvious route and have the drunken Sam commit friendly fire? Or will Sam in fact shoot his only brother?

“I can’t answer that. You don’t want to know… because something would be ruined for you, but you will find out. You will find out pretty quickly whether I did or did not.”

Trammell reveals that fans will find out in Episode 1 who the conflicted Merlotte ends up shooting. Any theories out there from you Truebies?

Does She or Doesn’t She?

Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley) and Franklin Mott (James Frain) in season 3 of True BloodRutina Wesley’s alter ego, Tara Thornton, definitely fought some crazy demons in season 3. Dealing with the death of Eggs (Mehcad Brooks) sent her into a downward spiral, where she contemplated suicide to the point of actually swallowing a large quantity of pills from her cousin’s medicine cabinet. Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) brought her back into the light, but darkness quickly enveloped her again in the form of a vampire, one psychotic Franklin Mott (James Frain). Upon Franklin meeting his true death, Tara found some peace, but too much emotional damage had been done, forcing her to rethink her life and the decisions she had to make.

“There’s gonna be some changes with Tara. Hopefully some power and some strength… And not be tied up all the time… I can’t tell you that (whether Tara returns to Bon Temp). I love my job too much.”

Are You a Good Witch or a Bad Witch?

Vampires and Werewolves signFor all the Truebies out there who have read the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris, season 4 means witches. Double, double, toil and trouble for sure! However, as we’ve all come to see, True Blood hasn’t necessarily followed the book series page by page. Joe Manganiello (Alcide Herveaux) concedes that witches descend on Bon Temps, creating trouble and wreaking havoc:

“What we know is that the werewolves and vampires don’t get along. We know that fairies and vampires don’t get along… Then we know from the books — if you look at the books — that the witches don’t get along with vampires. So basically everybody doesn’t get along with vampires. So at some point I would imagine the vampires are going to possibly [make] some friends…”

Season 4 has been filming for nearly a  month, so new details and spoilers will be trickling out more as we enter the new year. What do you think, Truebies? Any crazy ideas about what we might see come June?

They’re also building a “weird looking metal shack” and allowing Sam (Sam Trammell) to go more grey this season. You heard it here first, people! (Sorry if we just ruined the whole season for you.)

Ryan Kwanten as Jason StackhouseIn the video below, Ryan Kwanten who plays Jason Stackhouse on the hit HBO series True Blood, sat down with Fearnet.com and spoke about working on the hit show.

Kwanten talked a little about how the writers of the show make it fun to play Jason and why he enjoys the role so much saying:

” ….they still keep surprising me with the scenes, the episodes, the arcs over the course of an entire season”

The star goes on to give us a small insight into Jason’s new responsibilities coming up in Season 4:

” I just love the fact that they leave the most, you know, incompetent guy to look after an entire village.”

Finally Ryan gives us his take on Jason’s career in law enforcement :

Joe Manganiello’s Hopes About Sookie and David Bowie For Season 4

Season 3 of True Blood was a lot sexier thanks to Joe Manganiello, who plays werewolf Alcide Herveaux. Now a series regular, Joe spoke about Season 4 at the Alice and Olivia New York Fashion Week event.

He talks a little about the future for his characters as well as Sookie, but what’s really interesting is his hope to have David Bowie guest star on the show. David Bowie in Bon Temps? That would make for high ratings…maybe someone at HBO should take Joe’s advice.

Check out the video interview to get your True Blood fix as well as some juicy details about Season 4.

True Blood’s Kevin Alejandro Dishes On His Mysterious Character

Kevin Alejandro True Blood JesusKevin Alejandro Shedding Some Light on his Character

When fans first met Jesus, Lafayette’s season 3 love interest on True Blood, they knew that there was something more behind his sweet smile and good intentions. Kevin Alejandro, who plays the mysterious man Lafayette has fallen for, confirms fans’ suspicions.

Kevin is quick to say that there is something up with Jesus and it was uncovered on the season finale, which aired Sunday September 12 at 9 on HBO. About the season finale, all Kevin said was,

“I was very surprised, and it’s really awesome what I get to do…It’s actually going to be a really great finale…There are a lot of stories that get wrapped up and some new ones that get introduced.”

Before landing the part of Jesus, the Texas native and his wife were big fans of the show. He was quite awed by working with so many great actors. As for playing a gay character, Kevin noted,

“We all do this because we want to do something outside ourselves and be part of something bigger than us and something great. ‘True Blood,’ it’s an amazing show.”

Another perk about working on the hit series is learning from his fellow actors. He says he has learned so much from Nelsan Ellis, who portrays Lafayette, by simply watching him at work.

The 34 year old will return to True Blood for the season four as well as continue his role as Detective Nate Moretta on TNT’s Southland when they start up their 3rd season next year. This fall he’ll also be filming the newest Kevin Smith film titled, Red State.

Kevin, who has had roles in Ugly Betty and Weeds, appreciates the fans he has gained through his acting career. He noted,

“This is probably one of the biggest things I’ve ever been able to be part of, and it’s been pretty amazing for me…I’m not jaded by it. I’m new to it. It really puts a smile on my face. Every day I’ve had somebody be really kind and appreciative of the things we’re doing (on the show), and personally I love it. I think it’s really cool that a person like me, coming from a small West Texas town, can have an impact on somebody.”

Fans hope Kevin keeps this positivity for years to come because they all love seeing him on TV and wish him only the best!

Both Joe and Kristen comment on the craziness that will come at the end of season 3. Joe does go on to talk about Alcide‘s storyline in Charlaine Harris‘s novels which is a little spoilerish. Whether Alan Ball will choose to stick to that path, we don’t know yet. But it could make it interesting. Check out the entire interview below!

Joe Manganiello Named Season 4 Regular on True Blood

True Blood fans have been hearing rumors about our favorite were becoming a regular, but is it true? Joe Manganiello, the hottest new addition to join True Blood, will indeed be a regular for Season 4.

Joe plays the sexy werewolf Alcide Herveaux, who is an integral part of the Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse Series. The One Tree Hill alum was only supposed to be in a handful of True Blood episodes, but he made such an impression on the show’s producers as well as fans that he was asked to join the storyline for Season 4.

True Blood has been nominated for an Emmy in the Best Drama category and has been picked up for a 4th season after only two episodes of the 3rd season aired.

There has been a lot of rumors flying that some of the original cast members may be killed off by end of the season. Many fans are hoping that Alan Ball will reveal any truth to these rumors at the SDCC 2010 panel (which he did not).

Though fans don’t know who may be eliminated at the end of the 3rd season, it’s comforting to know we’ll be seeing a lot more of Alcide Herveaux.
