True Blood Season 3 Spoiler News: Looking at the Romance

More True Blood season 3 spoiler news from Alan Ball regarding the romantic adventures our telepathic waitress, Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) is going to experience in season 3Alan spoke with Michael Ausiello from EW.com and stated that whether you want to see Bill and Sookie together or Eric and Sookie you are going to be “very unhappy and oddly, very happy” this season.  The reasoning behind his comment is the addition of another hunk into the mix, namely werewolf Alcide Herveaux (portrayed by Joe Manganiello) who will be adding to the sexual tension on the show.  As Alan explains:

“Take a look at Joe [Manganiello],” he teases of the hunk he cast as the psychic’s new love interest, the werewolf Alcide. “Do you think [they] have reason to be worried? We were looking for a guy who was big, sexy, decent and heroic, with some darkness,” he says. “And [Manganiello] showed us all of that in the audition.”

Alan was so confident in Joe‘s ability to convey the necessary attributes of the character that he didn’t ask him to do a chemistry test with Anna, which is normally done when there are several other actors who are vying for a role.

Alan mentions that although Alcide is not introduced to the audience at first as a potential suitor for Sookie, the circumstances that both characters find themselves in creates the dynamics for some sparks to fly between them.

“As in the book, he’s helping her find [her kidnapped boyfriend] Bill,” Ball notes, “and he has a business reason for owing Eric a favor” — one (bad) thing leads to an (incredibly sexy) other. “He’s there with her during a very painful time in her life — and his life, actually. And they’re thrown into some pretty intense situations together.”  “And hello, he’s hot!” he adds with a laugh. “And hello, so is she. Two hot people in some intense situations and, for whatever reasons, their significant others are not there… they’re human.”

Whether it is right or wrong that two people who are extremely attractive and facing stressful situations will fall into the arms of one another while their significant other is not around is up for debate, however it does make interesting television.

So how to do you feel about the introduction of another guy to heat up the screen with Sookie?  Are you happy about it or, as Michael says “should the show have spent a season exploring the Bill/Sookie/Eric triangle before making it a square?”

Let your comments be heard.

I keep thinking of the Wizard of Oz, when I think of Sookie and her adventures. She had the perfect mate with Sam, but she wanted something more exciting. So, she’s going on this great adventure and meeting many ‘loves.’ In the end, however, I think she will return to Sam, who knew who always knew that she was special, loved her without trying to exploit her, and was willing to sacrifice his life for her. There’s no place like home.

Wouldn’t it be neat that Eric fans find happiness in the books, and Bill fans find happiness with the series ? Please Bill, Please Bill, Please Bill… 🙂
And I agree, if Eric could have his ass kicked by Bill, that would be soooo great !

Lil

Bill and Sookie pleaaaase ! I know it wouldn’t be like in the books, and I’d love to see Eric spice it all up, but I really wish that Bill and Sookie will come back together at the end, their story works so well on screen, the chemistry is so incredible, It’d be torturing for me to see Sookie with another guy at the end… Bill is unbelievably dark mysterious and sexy, and in love… and first !

Kylie

I personally have read every single book, I think its a wonderful thing what Ball is doing. I personally am loving being able to watch the books being played out on TV!

Drewpydog

Sookie and Bill please!Although i have to admit i love the twists and turns AB throws into his story lines, seeing her with Eric was making me physically ill!Just for the record Bill needs to kick Erics ass sometime this season, even tho Eric is more powerful. Can’t wait for season 3!

    Isis Nocturne

*grinning* Welcome, and enjoy the ride! We’re all with you in wishing that Season 3 would just get here already!

      Nia

I am grinning with you Isis!!!!!!!

Hi DD and welcome. I know it is hard for a few to think of Bill and Sookie not together but where would the drama be if there wasn’t someone trying to shake things up.
I am a big Bill fan, but I also like Eric (both Stephen and Alex are wonderful).

I trust Alan B to shake things up for us. I believe in S3 we will be cringing, laughing, crying, etc.

As Isis says, its going to be a heck of a ride!

      For the Team,

      Team True Blood!

        Antonio

I agree It should be 1 heck of a ride! Perhaps,Sookie could learn something from time spent with Eric? Maybe She would realize just how much she loves Bill OR perhaps she might even grow to care for Eric..You never know what The writers and AB will do! As for the romance? It seems,To Me,That Bill and Sookie’s relationship is the ONLY 1 that people would want to have! I certainly would NOT want to have something like Sam & Tara OR Jason & Amy…Heck No! Jason & Amy’s “romance” was complicated and contaminated by substance abuse & co-dependency issues! Arlene and Renee? Yikes!! Anyway, Its interesting to shake things up and see what happens! Sookie is Mortal and perhaps part something else. Bill is a vampire! There Is No Happily Ever After for them. I really would Not want to see a “fairy-tale” type ending with TB! Anyway, LOets just sit back and enjoy what will unravel over the next couple of years

    Lizzie 1701

Right on!! I’m with you on this one Drewpydog!!!! Bill and Sookie together and kicking Eric’s a*se!! It is about time Eric got his comuppence!

Sheila

I agree with Jaxx, let the chips fall where they may. AB has done a great job so far and there is no reason to think that won’t continue. S3 can really hurry up already. The new book should be out in May. I am going through some serious DT’s I can’t wait. I have read so many books trying to keep occupied and writing my own stuff just is not the same. I have Vamps and Supes on the brain. Hurry Hurry Hurry! Paitience is not one of my strong points.

Laura

bill and sookie.. please =)

D Reilly

Sookie & Bill…Sookie & Bill, Bill & Sookie, Bill, Sookie…ahaha already. “BILL” was Sookies “first” man, and “first” vampire…and “BILL” …was SENT to our sweet Sookie by the Queen. A “setup” romantic…WOW….Will True Blood bring that into the “light” ?? OR keep Eric….creepy vamp sheriff trying to take Sookie away from Bill?? Sookie is the hot tamale teaser…Look Out..Alcide,..Quinn & Eric., “you were always on her mind,..you were always on her..mind” !!

    Nia

    I like your mantra D Reilly……….

    Sookie/Bill, Sookie/Bill, Sookie/Bill, Sookie/Bill……….

I could say that all day!!! LOL

    Antonio

Yes Bill may have been her First But he may Not be her Last!
Sookie needs to find out Who She Is and What She wants!

      jaxx

I agree Antonio. Sookie is young and she needs to explore all her options before setting on any one of them or none of them. I, for one, am just looking forward to seeing her explore all other interests and then we’ll see who is the one for her.

        Antonio

Hi Jaxx I quite agree! I’d been streaming some video recently of Eric in S2. It looks to me like we got the chance to see Several different sides of Eric! Eric the wiseguy, hard-ass, tough and yet he could be fiercely loyal and protective and even caring around his maker. I was moved deeply when godric called out “I’m here my child!” and Eric flashed in quickly and then got down on his knees. He was like a little kid! It was touching to see just how devoted to godric he was!
Plus, I like the scenes with Sookie and Eric The scene where he’s trying to get sookie out of the church is just unbelievable!
I laughed my butt off when he tried to pass himself off as human!
I feel as though there is Something There with these 2! The dream sex sequences were Incredible! There is Some kind of chemistry there between them! Eric may be hard and ruthless and certainly manipulative but Perhaps sookie can change that!
Look what she’s done with Bill perhaps she can do something with Eric, too! Eric is Not docile or submissive He would Not yield to her easily! It would be quite interesting to see a relationship develop and how they could come together if only just to help each other. Sometimes people who “dont like each other” become the Most attracted to 1 another! We’ve seen it before:: Sam & Diane-cheers,David & Maddie-moonlighting,Buffy and Spike? perhaps? My point is I feel an attraction is inevitable because A. She ingested his blood B. He may try to utilize this “tie” to his own advantage C. He may try to aquire her just to Spite Bill
Besides I think on SOME level She IS attracted to him!
In Bill’s absence,She may Need his help and since he IS the sheriff and an older vampire and stronger he could be of invaluable help to her! I can hardly wait to see what happens?
Where the writers will go with this!
And Yes I Will continue to watch Even If sookie and eric Do have a “dalliance”! I wasnt too keen on the idea of Sam & Tara and yet i still stuck around Of Course, I WASNT Too keen on Sam & Daphne OR Sam and Maryann and yet I didnt quit watching!
Come to think of it Sam’s love life,up to This point, Sux! LOL
        Go TB!

larinhastar

He-llooo!! Isn’t anyone rooting for Joe Manganiello already? The Alcide character, despite his whore ex-girlfriend, as a Sookie suitor, is much more preferable than Bill himself, seeing as those who have read ALL the books know who Bill really is.
If, for some crazy reason, like having babies, CH decides that Sookie decides not to be with our Norse God, Eric, Alcide would be the one, IMHO. Pack politics could really be an issue, but, if she chooses to be with a vampire, she’ll have to deal with vampire politics, so I see no big difference there.

    Lizzie 1701

Well, it is the books again! I have read the books and I still prefer Bill. I do not like the Eric character and I do not like Alcide. IMO Sookie and Bill should be together on True Blood, because this is the show and it is DIFFERENT to the books in subtle ways which make it so much better than those books.

Do you really think AB is going to change Bill? He has seen the potential of Bill and what he is trying to do ie regain his humanity. The actor playing Bill has been cast as the main male lead. Really, in the books, Bill was caught between a rock and a hard place – having to obey orders from the Queen, Lorena and Eric. The guy did not have a chance! Back to True Blood, so Bill is keeping the truth (if AB is going that way) from Sookie, so as to protect her and he is frightened of the consequences. The guy is in love!!IMO, what Eric did to Sookie re the bullet sucking , was way more deceitful than whatever Bill is supposed to be doing, if AB goes that way!
AB is using the books as a guide but has swayed away from them in may areas. Please do not use the books as a reference and condemn Bill – it may not go that way or be displayed in a different way.

Plus, one final comment. This show is not about Sookie and who she gets – it is an ensemble show and cast – each and every member has a vital role to play in this fantastic show – it is the the Sookie Books as seen by her eyes!

    Go Team True Blood!

      Desiree

Reply to Lizzie 1701: The show is NOT better than the “those books” CH books are the premise for the show. But they are different, neither is better than the other and your preference for the show is just that a preference please don’t demean those that prefer the books.

    Ollie Chong aka AdoreBill

I read ALL the books and still like book Bill but this is True Blood and TV Bill is different then in the books. 🙂

D Reilly

Alan Ball@ True Blood: you have great material and very very talented actors to make seasons 3 & 4 THE BEST. Please don’t get carried away with too much “crap”…and “overkill” …don’t want to see the “whole town ” naked again !! haha,,but you do have beautiful people in the cast! ( Harris does have “nudity”..tastefully ) THANKYOU

Amber

hey everyone!
well sice people here started talking about ERIC i have to say he is my favorite character and i just loved him in book number 4 and well i hope that AB will follow the books because in the books we get to see a lot of eric and i dont wat to make people mad but i hate bill, and i am kindda happy that sookie dump him.

in book number 2 sookie was invited to a sex party and she only went to find out who killed lafayet ad since bill wasn’t around she asked eric and well i wanted to see alexander with tight pink lycra and for that i am really mad at alan!!!!!!!!!!!

    pbt

Hey Amber, don’t be mad at Alan. He is making his version of the books. Hey we would never have Alexander Skarsgard as Eric Northman if it weren’t for Alan. Yes, Eric is the most interesting character in my mind. I enjoy all the actors. They work so hard and do an amazing job on the show. But love for the Viking always comes first.

Amy

Why can’t it be june already!! I’m dyin here. I hope we’ll get some promos soon or a sneak peek clip of season 3.

pbt

The one part of Eric that AB has not shown us entirely yet is his sense of humor. We have seen hints of it with Pam. In the books, it was sense of humor with Sookie that endeared him to me. AB has stripped that away from the Eric and Sookie relationship thus far.

Yes, he is powerful, cunning, dangerous but as I have said on numerous occasions Eric is loyal, intelligent, patient and wise. Eric will be a most important ally to Sookie as she is seeking to find Bill. Bill is under Eric’s protection and as his sheriff will help Sookie locate him.

I agree Jaxx that Eric in s4 will be a toned down version of the real Eric. Since amnesiac Eric is not aware of all of the vampire politics and his centuries of past history, you will see a glimpse of Eric as he was before becoming a vampire.

AB has a lot of work to do with the Eric character if S4 is going to make any sense to TB viewers. It should be an interesting ride as we move forward towards s4.

    Nia

    Actually pbt, I disagree.
You are not giving Eric enough credit on the show. I found Eric to have some very funny moments.

“You’re right Bill, I think I can sense her emotions”

    HILARIOUS!!!!!!! I was rolling.

Or his chiding of our poor Jason, at the nest, after the FOTS, when Bill and Jason saved him and Sookie.

I believe that Eric has alot of his humor tied into this arrogant bad boy attitude hes got going on. Its actually charming at times. Yes he was like this in the books too. I agree.
See, the thing is I do like Eric. You may be shaking your head and saying some choice words at me right now but it is true. Its just when things are made up and just coming way out of left field that I have to chime in.
And picking on Bill just because Sookie (and a lot of us) loves him is really not fair.

Ok so I think that is enough for now. We really should not let this get out of hand.

    Team True Blood!

      pbt

That’s fine to disagree Nia. We always do. AB has shown some of the humorous Eric but not half as much as Charlaine wrote. There was a much more balanced approach in the books with Eric and Sookie’s relationship. Their exchanges back and forth were priceless. Eric and Sookie are actually very much alike. I made no comment above about Bill?? I was talking about Eric.

135 days and counting. Go Viking!

        Nia

        Hi pbt,
But you are basing your views of “Erics not having enough humor” solely on just 2 seasons of TB as compared to 9 books of CH’s. Thats really not fair to either one of them. You really need to give TB, AB, and Eric more time.
IMO, in these past two seasons I found Eric to be very funny and bad boy charming.
There was not much Eric in books 1 and 2. Why would you think there would be in season 1 and 2 of TB(this is the main reason why Eric supporters have been so vehemently, verbally abusive to Bill and Stephen, in the show, which is really not justified)? Sookie and Eric do not have a relationship yet other than disgust and blood induced eroitc dreams on Sookies part, and for Eric, all he feels right now is curiosity and the desire to aquire her.
Give TB, AB and all the actors/characters the time and respect they deserve. I believe that Eric will come into his own in the next few seasons. Just like the books.

Sorry but my reference to Bill was made because of your opinions of him in the past. True that is neither here or now.

        Team True Blood!

          pbt

I have always given all the actors, writers and directors on this show all the respect they deserve. You know I love this show. IMO, I am not seeing the same level of banter that Eric and Sookie had in the books yet. Eric has had many comical scenes with Sookie, Bill and especially Pam. Can’t wait to see Pam’s character this season. More time for Kristin Bauer.

Yes, Season Three may bring us more of the Eric Northman that so many of us enjoy. And as AB and Alex have stated there is something there between Eric and Sookie and they will be working towards that in Seasons Three and Four. Personally can’t wait.

I have never said that anyone on the show doesn’t do a great job and to imply that I said that is unfair.

        Antonio

Once again I Agree with You PBT! I think that Eric and Sookie ARE VERY Much Alike! This is Why I think that they would be good together even if it doesnt “go the distance”.

GEmma

Hey, i totally agree with you all but i have to say i think it would be an interesting scene if Eric and Sookie got together. How would you know you dont like it if you havnt seen it happen i think you should’nt all be so quick to judge. However i think everyperson should have there own opinion but i love eric and the fourth book. He was so vunrable and innocent it was such a good twist to the story line. A couple of books in you will realise eric is far better and hate Bill for what he did too sookie. I think its the seventh book?! It would be sooo boring if bill and sookie got back together every time somthing when wrong in there relationship, everybody needs variety… even if Sookie and Erics relationship only lasts one season.

    Nia

    Hi Gemma,
Again here the problem lies in the fact that many of you are mixing up the books and the show and that causes confusion and animosity.

TB is a show that is based loosely on the books and should be allowed to stand on its own.

Show Bill is hands down a much better character than in the books. I have read all the books and it would in no way make me want to hate Bill in the show (anything that Bill did wrong in the books he was compelled to do, without a choice, whereas when ever Eric behaves badly, its all Eric). That would be rediculous since Bill has been the lover, fighter, hero, and friend throughout these two seasons.
Don’t get me wrong, he is not perfect, that is what is so wonderful about him. He is dark, and dangerous, hes a vampire for gosh sakes. But he is trying so hard to be a “man” again. To regain the humanity that was so cruelly stolen from him. It is this journey for him that I find compelling and intrigueing.
He found love again and is willing to do anything to keep it this time, mainstream as well as even risking the sun. To have a man love you, care for you, desire you, and try to better himself for you that way would be shear heaven.

When I read the books, its funny, but the only person who, when I read them, I picture their face is Eric. I see Alex S. As to the others, Bill, Sam, Sookie…..I see different faces in my head. They are totally different characters. Dry and bland or in Sookies case…low rent (thank god Alan B has given them all new “LIFE”).

Yet Eric is the same in the books as in the show. Very little difference. He is still bossy, manipulative, deceitful, controlling, conniving, arrogant and yes, a charming bad boy.

**Again, I would like to point out that my character review of Eric does in no way reflect on Alex S. who I think is a wonderful actor and an all around great guy!**

But getting back, I do look forward to the drama that Eric will cause for Sookie and Bill. It is necessary to the show. It doesn’t mean I will dislike Eric, not at all, he is great, he is what he is! (If he was the same as Bill that would be boring)
I will just route for my favorite as you do yours.

I cannot wait for season 3. The hiatus is much to long. I support Alan B in all he chooses to do. He has taken the core of the books and made them so much better.

    Team True Blood!

Melissa0914

I disagree completely that the ‘curse’ caused Eric to have a different personality… I think what it did was wipe away everything that was standing in the way of him acknowledging his real feelings… over 1,000 years of pride and power, getting everything he wants with the click of his fingers… it took away all of the bullshit and left him vulnerable… after you took away the first night of him being scared… then his real personality came out I thought… he wasn’t this cowering man that hid in the closet the WHOLE time he had his memory lost… He definitely had his personality come out as the nights went by.

Anyway it would be wonderful to see that acted out with Anna P and Alexander S. – would be hot! 🙂

    jaxx

I’ve never known anyone with amnesia only what I see on tv, but wouldn’t you think that if you can’t remember who you are, your name, your friends and/or family or anything about yourself that you would seem to have a different personality to everyone??? I think that’s what’s going on here. Eric could not remember anything of his past in the beginning. This was a huge insecurity to him as I imagine it would be to anyone with amnesia.

I also agree with Melissa that here we see the genuine Eric, without all the vamp politics, worries, business problems in his life. This shows the potential of Eric, what he really can be if you take everything else away. A loving, caring, sweet, romantic, honorable, gentlemanly Eric. If you can strip everything away that is buried deep after 1,000 years of being a vampire and everything that comes with it, this is Eric in his raw form.

I’m hoping this is the Eric we will get to see in S4 and the constant struggle to achieve this Eric through the love of a good woman, Sookie.

I say, let the chips fall where they may and see where AB takes us.

Melissa0914

haha whoops.. and by eric/bill i meant sookie and bill 😉

Melissa0914

I’ve been kind of following these posts distantly and wanted to weigh in again. I can completely see, if you haven’t read the books, why Eric/Sookie makes no sense to you. But there’s a twist, a new storyline that is in book 4 (possibly season 4??) that allows us as an audience to see a completely new and vulnerable side of Eric.. a side of him you haven’t seen before. It’s a great twist and I really really hope they keep it in the show as I imagined the two actors the entire time I was reading the books…

I agree that TB is better than the books, AB has definitely brought the characters to life. But he’s also made Bill a lot nicer and gave him more character than the books did… and in a way made Eric more of a villain then he was portrayed in the books, though I really enjoyed seeing his vulnerable side at Godric’s death scene (not in the books). I don’t mind if Eric and Bill end up together at the very end, as they have incredible chemistry in the show… but I would still like to see the book 4 storyline brought to life. I think that would make an amazing season… get Bill and Sookie back together afterwards, but still give us Eric/Sookie people at least one season!!!

    Isis Nocturne

Melissa, I understand what you’re referring to, but I had a different take on that plotline in the book. Eric was CURSED. He was NOT himself in the least, as shown by his swift change back to himself and loss of memory from the event. I don’t think it’s fair to say that was the same guy. It was a needy, scared person occupying Eric’s body, not Eric himself. There was too great a change in personality for me to believe that the character shown was the same one we’d already been introduced to.

      jaxx

Don’t forget also, while Eric was cursed, the curse was that he would go to the object of his desire, which was Sookie. Eric didn’t even understand it himself and when the curse was lifted he was working his way through the feelings and still is to some degree. It was the same Eric, jimo, only a stripped down version without the bells or whistles that make up the Eric us Eric lovers love. He slowly comes to realize what these feelings mean to him and he is still working on them. 🙂

        Isis Nocturne

I know that’s what the curse was, but that still doesn’t explain the personality change, and that was one of my HUGE issues with the books. There is NO legitimate reason that would make me believe Eric’s personality would change so much with just a curse like the one placed on him. That scene is one of the many things that threw me out of the fantasy world Charlaine created because it offended my intelligence so badly as a reader. But, then again, that’s just me, and doesn’t reflect on anyone else’s views or enjoyment of the books.

          jaxx

The way I looked at it, if Eric had amnesia he couldn’t remember anything at all including who he was or anything about what he was like. He was a blank slate. No memories of his past life to base any kind of personality on. Like an innocent baby, childlike and insecure about everything, until the curse was removed. JIMO.

          Val

I agaree with you Isis, that Eric was a TOTALLY different personality but remember this is a witches curse and in the books they are very POWERFUL beings!

          Isis Nocturne

          Hi Jaxx,

I recall another book from an entirely different series where one of the characters had amnesia and was trying to remember who she was, and there were little habits and such there that helped her to slowly remember who she was. I think with Eric, who has been around for so long, his various habits would appear. But then again, it is a fantasy and Charlaine can write any way she pleases. 🙂

          jaxx

Hey Isis, thanks. It will be fun to see how AB writes S4 and how he handles the amnesia but I am getting head of myself here. S3 isn’t even here yet. lol. 🙂

KGERIG SMITH

I have only read the first book and do not intend to read any of the others. The show has obviously gone above and beyond the original characters. What Alan Ball has created is an exceptional adaptation of this story.

Bill and Sookie in the end. Period Obstacles, yes. But the attraction was there from the moment he first walked into Merlottes. No amount of blood drinking can deny or overcome that. I see Bill’s journey to recapture what he can of his humanity as being fully vested in his relationship with Sookie at this point. What he will have to deal with is the fact that no matter what he will never again be able to be fully human. I miss the dark side of him that we saw much more of in season 1. The implication in season 2 is that his journey has progressed rapidly and well — I hope in season 3 we see that to be proven false. He will wrestle muc more with his two natures than he did in season 1.

Seeing a broader emotional Eric is interesting as well but, regardless of what I’ve heard about his and Sookie’s relationships in the books, it would be untrue to the natural connection between Bill and Sookie to have her end up with Eric whom she completely loathed until she tasted his blood.

I’m hoping we see more of both of these vampires’ progress toward enlightenment. The hint we saw of this possibility in Godric’s poetic final scene is something that I think too many people are overlooking. Bill and Eric’s struggles and Sookie’s inspiration as they undergo those struggles will create a whole new level of this show. But in the end, it should be Bill and Sookie.

    Ollie Chong aka AdoreBill

    Hi KGERIG,

Thank you for you wonderful observation and yes I have to agree that it would be very interesting to see the two vampires progress to enlightenment. It would definitely make the show even greater then it is now on so many levels. I too love what Alan has done to the show and how he has taken the ideas from the books and is making the show his own in his creative genius way.

I agree I see Bill’s journey the same way as you do, as a vampire trying to gain back what he lost so many years ago yet at the same time struggling with that fact that there are so many obstacles in his way to recapturing everything he longs for so much.

      Lizzie 1701

      Hi KGERIG and Ollie,

My sentiments exactly! I know a lot of Bill and Sookie followers are worried about S3 but I remember AB saying at the outset that TB will be a discovery of who Bill and Sookie are and the journey they have to take to find ultimate trust, faith and love for each other. Their journey will test them and at the end they will find unselfish love with each other.

I think AB is still on this journey but I think he is being swayed towards other areas, I don’t know, is he under pressure to pursue the Eric and Sookie storyline? I mean, at this time, it makes no sense to go there other than having Eric be a pest to Bill and Sookie, but I do agree with you that maybe Sookie will be the catalyst to make both our boys “more than just a vampire” so as to embrace their vampire and human heritage.

I just can’t see Sookie falling head and heels in love with Eric. She is aware of the blood and what it can do to her, but I think she will find the strength to fight it. She had that attraction to Bill that first night and had that dream without his blood. They have been through some tough situations already and have professed their love and deep devotion. I will just be baffled, as will tons of other people, if things drastically change between those two. Obstacles, yes. Complete breakup – no.

I really enjoyed your take. It is my take as well and you put it together so well!

Oh! I forgot! I have only read the first book (have skimmed two others, but due to lack of Bill, was not interested), and I am so glad that AB took the ideas and made True Blood. I found the book not very interesting and hard to read. Now that I have seen Bill and Sookie in TB there is no way I could enjoy the book version! Some of the scenes AB used for TB are so much better ie when B/S walk through the cemetry and the “take your clip out” scene! Imagine what it would be like if it was a direct take from the book? The “deflowering” scene! So much better in TB! Jason is better in TB! Sookie is better than the book version, who is selfish and whiney and “dah”!!! So thankful for AB and TB!!! Thought I must thank CH for bringing these characters to us in the first instance. It is just that AB has brought these characters TO LIFE!

Goodness, I seem to be late as usual.
Hello Lizzie, Kgerig, Isis and AdoreBill,
Yes, we are all on the same page here. I agree you.
          WEll SAID ALL!
Most of you know me. I am a big fan and huge supporter of Alan B and True Blood (and yes, I have read ALL the books). He took the lakluster characters of CH’s and gave them such wonderful personalities, spirit and life!! His story and character development IMO is so much richer and believeable (ok, the maenad was a bit out there but hey, this is fantasy).

Alan B has decided in his infinite wisdom that his True Blood vision is a love story/journey of Bill and Sookie. Although this may not sit well with Eric lovers, it is nonetheless what Alan has deemed will be. Personally I find that out of all the characters, Eric is the closest to his book equivalent. I never found him a truely loveable character except when he was cursed and not himself. Oh he could be charming but his other negative qualities outweighed any good. After the curse was lifted, he became his same own overbearing arrogant self.

Just to be clear, this is an opinion of the character of Eric, and in no way is a reflection of the wonderful actor, Alex S., whom I have great respect for.

As to the relationship of Eric and Sookie, It took 10 books for her to finally say that she loved Eric. But what so many fail to see is that it took so many ingestions of his blood and up till the last she still questions whether or not it is her true feelings or the blood bond. She says that constantly in the last few books. So is this real love? She knew she loved Bill from the first. The attracton was always there. As to Bill in the books, he has made mistakes, but his love, devotion and sacrifice to Sookie was always there.

I am sorry I brought up the books again. I do try not to, but when others do I feel I must give my opinion on them. Again this is just my opinion.
As to the show, Alan Ball rocks!

          Team True Blood!

Very well said, KGERIG! A lot of people seem to forget that everyone is flawed in the series (some more than others). At least Alan took characters who were only somewhat interesting in the books (JMHO), and turned them into characters we’re all so passionate about!

So glad there are more of us Bill and Sookie’s Journey Types out there! Don’t get me wrong — I find Eric very… ahem… compelling. (The arms on that man alone are a marvel. Actually, all of these guys have biceps that make me weak just thinking about them. Steven Moyer. Sigh. Ryan Kwanten. Was Michaelangelo your daddy? And Mehcad Brooks — a pure dose of middle Americana — guns and a six pack. (R.I.P.)) But I digress…

I’m hoping that Sookie overcomes the lustful feelings for Eric (though a few more dream sequences would be jus’ fine before her final victory of that portion of her libido.) and that in the meantime, we see the dark side of Bill that he portrayed to subtly and skillfully in season 1 return. I do think Steven Moyer became the unsung hero of the show this season because the character had to be so passive due to the storylines. To watch him in the first few episodes of season 1 was to see a really sly remarkable transformation. I expect we will see something similar from Sookie this season in a different direction as she goes on her journey of self discovery. She’ll probably help Eric get ‘in touch’ with his humanity before all is said and done. I just don’t want her actually touching his ‘humanity’ – if ya’ know what I mean. 😉

Sabrina’s love for that cad, Hugo (who was nonetheless, as is requisite of this show, cute as the devil (and maybe he was! Maenads! Devils! Who knows?) and, of course, Godric’s ultimate philosophies lead me to think that beneath all the orgies and violence (and please, please, please — no more satanic orgies. Seriously, what are the cast parties like with these people? Makes one wonder…) this is a tale of redemption and reconciliation.

If I had a bathroom wall to write on, I’d scribble ‘Bill -n- Sookie 4evah’ (and ‘4evah’ really means something to these people.)

        Lizzie 1701

Trust me!! There are a whole heap of us out there! I also belong to a “Bill” site and we are all passionate about the journey1

Well done for your clear thinking!!
