True Blood Season 5 Episode 7 “In The Beginning” Recap

Lilith Returns:

Sookie and her magic hands in Episode 7 of HBO's True BloodSo Roman has really met the true death! In Episode 7 of HBO’s True Blood we also discover what we had earlier suspected: Salome, Nora and Russell Edgington were all besties and just biding their time until the Sanguinistas could rise again.

We find Sookie passed out and having her ‘luminescence’ checked by the faeries. She is introduced to the idea that her magic is finite and she may, one day, be just a plain human. Are the fae telling the truth about this? Only time will tell, but it doesn’t prevent Sookie from doing a little soul searching and then trying to intentionally deplete her magical powers. Could we stand to see Sookie as a mere human?

Andy and Sam find themselves in a small spot of trouble when they are interviewed over the death of Junior. Kenya also suspects that something isn’t quite right with Sam after his strange behaviour smelling out masks used in the supe killings, and rolling around on the floor like a puppy with a bad itch. He does offer up some valuable advice as to who the suspects may be though.

Hoyt has been rescued by the same people who are responsible for the supe shootings. Looks like the dark path Hoyt is following just got a whole lot darker. He is happy to join up with their little hate group run by some guy named ‘Dragon‘. The writing is on the wall that Jessica’s fate, and Hoyt’s loyalty will be tested as this hate group is going to try to avenge Hoyt, and the pain he has suffered at the hands of Jessica.

Bill and Eric are discussing the implications of the Sanguinista uprising. Eric is devastated by the role his sister, Nora, has played in this plot. It seems Molly is on their side and is eager to find out exactly how her i-Stake program failed. Will Bill and Eric join up with the Sanguinista to save themselves? Russell seems to think so, to the point of allowing Eric to live – I wonder what big plans he has for the tall viking? There will be more to keeping Eric and Bill alive! Salome the temptress admits to digging up Russell as part of her plan to have Lilith return.  It is obvious that Salome is a man eater, can’t wait to see when all these Vamp men are actually going to realize it!

Alcide and his second, Rikki, are ‘training’ for the pack master challenge. When Rikki suggests they use “V” to even the playing field, Alcide is offended and would rather die than use vampire blood. Martha then interrupts a romantic interlude between the pair and swears that JD doesn’t use “V”. Later on though, she discovers the painful truth. Not only is JD a V” addict, but he is not above offering vamp juice to Martha’s young granddaughter!

Arlene is coming to grips with losing Terry. The video of their wedding is bittersweet as we catch glimpses of happier times for not only Arlene and Terry, but Hoyt, Jessica, Lafayette and Jesus. Holly tries to convince her to make amends with Terry since she is not convinced he is as crazy as Arlene says.

Jason is still on the vampire warpath, although his feelings are a little confused. He is still trying to convince Sookie that they are bad since they killed their parents (wonder if it’s a vampire we know?). But he also goes to Jessica to talk to her. Things don’t go well there with Jason catching Jessica with her mouth full. An argument ensues and let me just say, while a bullet to the head shouldn’t be humorous, when it’s a vampire being shot, their indignation can indeed be funny. Needless to say, I don’t think there will be much love felt between Jessica and Jason any time soon.

Lafayette tracks down Jesus’s grandfather and is lured into a trap. It seems that his grandfather blames Lafayette for stealing his grandson’s magic. He attempts to dig the magic back out of Lafayette’s head but is murdered by his pregnant wife instead. I hope she is on Lafayette’s side and not just crazy. Lafayette may not be out of the woods just yet.

A heart-wrenching scene follows, Tara’s mother appears at Fangtasia and bids her daughter farewell – after all, a good preacher’s wife can’t be known to have a vampire for a daughter. Pam certainly redeems herself as a maker with her kind response, even if she does try to cover it up in her usual Pam-style. Just on a side note, did anyone else hate Pam’s crimped hair in this episode? I sure hope they go back to her impeccably groomed style next week.

Salome holds a ritual that involves the drinking of Lilith’s blood. When Dieter is beheaded by Russell after showing his disgust, everyone else decides to be swayed to the Sanguinista side in a bid to save their own heads. So the blood of the ancient vampire is consumed: can anyone say ‘drunk vampires’? Once intoxicated by Lilith’s blood, the vampires crash a private party at a karaoke bar. According to a lot of fans, this scene is their least fave for the season. A feasting orgy erupts. It just goes to show that no matter how complacent we become around vampires, we must always be on our toes.

Patrick and Terry come face to face with the Ifrit. But it seems it is happy to toy with the last two members of the cursed squadron. Terry comes very close to killing himself as a result but Patrick manages to pull him back from the edge. I must say, it’s nice to see Patrick finally apologizing for making Terry kill the civilian who cursed them.

During the bloody feast at the karaoke, Lilith appears from a pool of blood. The vampires are amazed by her naked form but she compels them to feed some more – just when you think it couldn’t get any bloodier! Eric is visited by the ghost of his maker, Godric, during this scene. It seems the love for his maker is stronger than the power of Lilith’s blood coursing through his veins. We end this episode with Godric pleading with Eric to save his sister from the clutches of Lilith.

Do you think Eric can free Nora? Are the fae lying to Sookie about her powers? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Highlights and Lowlights of True Blood’s “Cold Grey Light of Dawn” Episode

The Frisky Dish up the Good, the Bad and the WTF:

Bill and Jessica in True BloodAccording to The Frisky website, Episode 7 of  HBO’s True Blood was basically soft-core porn. While yes, there was a whole lot of sex going on, there were also plenty of other things too.

Here’s their list of the good, the bad and the WTF moments from this episode of True Blood:

The Good

  • Pam and Tara’s fight getting interrupted by the patrons of Merlotte’s. You can’t fight with the logic of  “That’s exactly what a zombie would say,” after Pam exclaims: “I am not a zombie!”
  • Alcide getting upset over seeing Sookie and Eric getting jiggy
  • Eric and Sookie in bed together after the aforementioned ‘jiggy’
  • Eric in something other than that awful sleeveless hoodie. Yay flannel!
  • Andy asking Holly out, even if it was in a brown suit — at least there were roses…
  • Fiona Shaw getting all witchy as opposed to dithering
  • Marnie as Antonia getting Tara to do something other than run away from her problems
  • Hoyt’s mom watching her neighbor burst into flames
  • Jason being the hero and running to save Jessica from the sun

The Bad

  • Marnie/Antonia not getting their full revenge on Luis. Surely HBO could have dragged it out and really made this baddie suffer?
  • Werewolf induction ceremonies suck! And not in a good way…
  • Bill’s ridiculous plan to save the vampires from walking out into the sun. There were just way too many burning flesh shots going on here
  • Bill and Jessica get all sweet. It seemed like the audience was just being set up to feel sorry for her
  • Jessica doesn’t love Hoyt
  • Alcide and Debbie getting it on

WTF?!

  • Jason doing handstand push ups while wearing boxing gloves. How on earth did he do that?
  • Pam getting skinned alive to slow down the rotting process. Although her screamed obscenities were very Pam!
  • Lafayette’s hair. Just when we thought it couldn’t get worse than that ferret-style he had happening in Episode 1, he goes and braids it. For a super stylin’ dude, he has got it all wrong.

So, what did you think were the highlights and lowlights of Episode 7?

True Blood Season 3 Casting Calls and Title For Episode 7

Some very exciting True Blood Season 3 news regarding casting calls and the title for Episode 3.07.  We have been informed that Episode 7 will be entitled “Hit The Floor” and that several additional characters will be added including one that will draw alot of attention among fans who have read the book series. Let’s take a look at some of the characters that will be joining season 3.

One of the biggest news regarding this casting call is one for the role of Claudine.  She is described as a beautiful, kind and loving figure in her 30’s -40’s who knows a lot about Sookie and appears to Sookie in a golden vision. However, their utopia is abruptly dismantled when Claudine issues Sookie a mysterious warning. Now it is interesting that Alan is introducing this character now in the series.  We will have to wait and see how much we are going to see her and if it she will be similar as in the book series as the casting call states this may be a possible recurring role.

Other casting calls include a cruel “white trash dummy” in his 30′-40’s with a large belly name Big Bobby.

A suspicious, dangerous, Louisiana backwoods hillbilly, wearing overalls and speaking with a major accent, by the name of Frank.

A middle aged female doctor (Dr. Sekuler) who gives Tara some dire news at the hospital.

A female hospital administrator in her 30s, patronizing and hushed, who brings paperwork to Jason and appears a bit hurt when Lafayette lashes out at her.

True Blood Season 2: Episode 7 – “Release Me”

HugoAfter being led into the woods by Daphne, Sam finds himself in the middle of Maryann’s bacchanalian orgy. This time Maryann has another agenda, to remove Sam from the equation that is Bon Temps. Andy Belfleur also stumbles onto the grotesque party and shoots a bullet into the ground, disturbing the party as Maryann runs off to pursue Sam. At the end of the pursuit – Sam transmogrifies into an Owl in grand 80s Labyrinthine fashion.

Still imprisoned with Hugo, Sookie uses her telepathy to send an SOS to Barry the Bellhop. As Hugo’s claustrophobia grows, he becomes more agitated causing Sookie to attempt consoling him. By making contact with Hugo’s arm, Sookie learns that Hugo is the snitch that has been informing the Fellowship of the Sun of her movements.

Bill is detained by Lorena while Sookie is in dire need of help. It is revealed in flash back, that Lorena had released Bill from their relationship in the ‘30s. Lorena confides in Bill that it is not her who wants to keep him away from Sookie, after the two spend the sunlight hours attempting to outlast each other during their hours of regeneration.

After a romp in the Fellowship of the Sun’s cathedral with Sarah, Jason attempts to leave but is stopped when Steve forces him into the van with intention of sending him to hell “Today”. Jason learns that the hostility is not in reference to the affair with Sarah, but has something to do with his sister.

Steve’s lackey Gabe returns to the church basement to take his frustration out on Hugo after being beaten up by Jason Stackhouse. Sookie’s situation seems grim until a force enters the room throwing Gabe around like a rag doll. From her position on the floor Sookie looks up to catch sight of a young male Vampire as she asks “Godric?”

Top 5 of “Release Me

  1. Hoytt and Jessica deserve first place this week with their confessions of virginity and their sweet vulnerability. Jessica has proven that it may not take that long for a Vampire to remember their human nature. The scenes of Jessica and Hoytt highlight the fantastic job that the casting directors have done with the show.
  2. Jessica waking up to Hoytt decorating their hotel room with blood scented candles and her classic line of “Take off your pants”.
  3. The arrival of Godric in the right moment. His appearance may have only been brief but it was one of the most powerful character introductions of the season. Not bad for 3 seconds of screen time.
  4. Sam flipping out and carrying a gun everywhere. This is one man who has been disturbed one too many times and is on edge, and I am hoping he takes Maryann out soon as this writer is getting a little tired of her parties and attitude. Michelle Forbes does an amazing job at playing Maryann, she hits the nail on the head and should be applauded for playing such an abhorred character as well as she does.
  5. The intensely high production values of this True Blood episode, we were shown some amazing lighting, costumes and drama. The whole episode stood out from some of the past episodes, and as always ended well before we were ready to say goodbye for another week.

Share your top 5 and thoughts for this weeks episode in the comments below!

[Editor’s Note: Editing has it’s privilages.. I don’t have to wait for the comments!]

My top five scenes:

  1. Arlene explaining to Tara that she thinks she ‘date raped’ Terry.  Both funny and poignant … very True Blood.
  2. The flashback to Bill breaking free of Lorena in the ’20’s.  There’s the Bill that gives me chills of the good kind! Welcome Back, Compton!
  3. Jason kicking that L.O.D.I. S.O.B. in the B.A.L.L.S.
  4. Hoyt and Jessica.. really say it with me y’all… AAAwwwwww!!!
  5. Last but certainly not least, Andy saving Sam, totally by accident and nearly shooting himself in the foot.

Favorite Line: Jessica to Hoyt after he admits that he’s never done it with a human. “What have you done it with then?” in that innocent voice and with those big eyes!

Sookiest moment: Instead of lambing it out of there and slaming that door on the two Bucketheads fighting in the cell Sookie picks a side and volunteers to get slammed around the slammer for a while.

Most WTF moment: Vampires don’t sleep for one night and they start ‘bleeding’?  Really?  Wow, guess that’s what happens when you can no longer grab a cuppa joe to keep you going!  Betcha vampire students never pull ‘all dayers’ to study eh?

In the ‘those we love to hate’ department.. I am really going to miss Maryann if we manage to free Bon Temps from her grip… OTOH I won’t miss the L.O.D.I. folks and I fear we’ll never get rid of them…

True Blood “Release Me” Sneak Peak
