True Blood Costume Designer on Season 5

On Clothing Bon Temps and Her Intimate Encounter with Michelle Forbes:

Michelle Forbes as MaryAnnAudrey Fisher, a costume designer for HBO’s True Blood, talked about the experience she has had clothing the residents of Bon Temps, Louisiana. Fisher has been researching for Season 5; her research includes informing herself on what’s in the stores nowadays, maintaining contact with companies, and keeping in touch with the actors. She and creator Alan Ball will have a costume meeting for the purpose of finding the look of the season so she can begin her designs.

Fisher on her weirdest encounter on the True Blood set:

“When Michelle Forbes was the Maenad Bride [MaryAnn Forrester] during the climax of season 2, she was wearing her giant 3-fingered claw hands and this giant 1940s bridal gown and floral headpiece, and the poor dear was so hungry but couldn’t hold her own sandwich… so I fed her. It was very intimate.”

Fisher’s favorite scenes of True Blood:

“I’m partial to the historical flashbacks because it’s so fascinating to see the characters in that new environment, watch the actors be transformed in their period costumes and witness it all unfold in the gorgeous sets… choosing a favorite scene is almost impossible because there are so many stories behind each costume, and every character and every element of their costume.”

We can’t wait to see what Audrey Fisher has in store for our favorite characters, how about you?

True Blood Cast Members Show Their Support for Actors for Oceans Charity

Sam Trammell Co-hosts the Charity Event in Hollywood

Sam Trammell, True Blood's Sam Merlotte, hosts a charity event in Hollywood on November 13, 2010Sam Trammell, who plays shapeshifter Sam Merlotte on True Blood, is an avid surfer, swimmer, and defender of the world’s oceans. His love and respect for the water was very apparent on Saturday, November 13th, when he co-hosted an event for Actors for Oceans Charity, Project Save our Surf. Fellow True Blood cast members Michelle Forbes (Maryann Forrester) and Natasha Alam (Fangtasia dancer Yvetta) also came out to show their support.

Trammell looked very casual and relaxed before heading into the crowded event and talked about how he can see humanity’s effect on ocean life as a surfer because the water is dirty and polluted.

He also commented:

“…hopefully the more awareness and education we can raise, the more people, I think, will decide not to destroy it (the ocean).”

Trammell also gave the crowd a little taste of his musical talent when he sat down with his acoustic guitar alongside Project Save our Surf’s member Keaton Simmons.

Michelle Forbes, True Blood's Maryann Forrester, attends a charity event in Hollywood hosted by former co-star Sam TrammellTrammell’s former co-star, Michelle Forbes, has been on her own crusade to protect the environment:

“It’s important to protect our oceans, our marine wildlife, our wildlife, our land. It’s so important it’s the only world we have and my heart breaks when I think what we have done to it. It’s also important that we give up plastic bottles – no more plastic bottles! It is killing our oceans, it is killing us, as a matter of fact, so that’s something I’m really focused on these days. Looking at our water, our oil spills and the plastic involve – it’s utterly gutting, heartbreaking.”

Alam wowed the crowd in a form-fitting little black dress and gushed about how the ocean has very meditative qualities that she enjoys taking advantage of, especially by walking by the beach.

To hear more of what the True Blood stars had to say, check out the videos below!

Did any Truebies attend the event? If so, let us know how it went in the comments!

Michelle Forbes to Attend Puppy Mill Awareness Day

Michelle Forbes, Maryann ForresterMichelle Forbes, who played Maryann on HBO‘s True Blood, has joined forces with Last Chance For Animals and will be appearing at Puppy Mill Awareness Day September 18, 2010 at the La Brea Tar Pits, 5801 Wilshire Blvd., in Los Angeles from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Forbes will be appearing along side the “Dog Whisperer” Cesar Milan to raise awareness about the reality of puppy mills and the horrible conditions that millions of animals live through each year. The event will have music from live bands, activities for children, pet adoptions and animal friendly vendors. Admission to Puppy Mill Awareness Day is free and parking will be available.

Last Chance For Animals is a non-profit organization that advocates for animals and has been around since 1984. Chris DeRose, Last Chance For Animals‘ founder says that the location of the event was chosen deliberately.

“The location of Puppy Mill Awareness Day at the Tar Pits is symbolic of our commitment to make the horrible practice of mass-producing dogs for the pet trade extinct.”

Everyone involved hopes to get people to understand the reality of puppy mills and to persuade them to stop purchasing animals from pet stores and online. Adopting animals from shelters helps save them from being put down as there are 4 million homeless cats and dogs that are put down each year in U.S. shelters. For more information on the event click here.

VIDEOS: The True Blood Cast Interviewed on Red Carpets

The night of the Emmy Awards is always filled with red carpet interviews of stars. This year, everyone was interviewing the cast of True Blood about several different things, including the Paquin/Moyer wedding and the infamous Rolling Stone Magazine cover.

In this first video, several members of the True Blood cast comment on the Rolling Stone Magazine cover that features Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, and Alexander Skarsgard. Many of the responses to the cover were about how the nudity is a “typical day at the office” for them. Marshall Allman takes it one step further to hilarious effect.

The next video has the cast commenting on True Blood and what could happen in the future, as well as Anna and Stephen’s wedding.

The next video has both former and current costars of Stephen and Anna commenting on their wedding and how wonderful it was while they were at an Emmys after party.

In the final video, Stephen discusses the rumor going around about him being cast as Dr. Doom in the next Fantastic Four movie. Though he denies knowing anything about it, Stephen sure blinks a lot while he discusses it. (Blinking rapidly can be a sign that someone is lying.)

Michelle Forbes’ Fond Memories of True Blood Season 2

With the impending DVD release of True Blood Season 2, Michelle Forbes was interviewed by Last Broadcast on what is was like to be part of the show, playing a character as bizarre as Maryann.

Michelle says actors live for roles like that where they can explore new territory. She learned what a Maenad was through discussions of Greek mythology with the show’s creator, Alan Ball, and then just had fun getting to be wild and free, running around barefoot in evening dresses and having parties.

Michelle did admit that her stomach churned at some of things Maryann did (heart souffle, anyone?), but she was also a character that liberated people in a way. To prepare, she looked at films that conveyed “the spirit of abandon” and periods in culture where moral boundaries were broken down:

“I like to think that Maryann was there during all of those transgressive periods in time. That she was texting Caligula: what are you doing this evening? And that she had something to do with Woodstock as well–working everyone into a frenzy.”

Michelle is effusive in her praise of everyone working on True Blood. She talks about how much she loves HBO for allowing shows like this to thrive because of the freedom they give their storytellers. She talks about the cast, how talented and loving they are.

When asked what the highlight was of playing Maryann, Michelle thinks of one scene in particular:

“I have a scene where I come in after a night of ravaging in the woods and I just have a casual conversation with a dead rabbit over my lap. I love that scene so much. And I love frolicking in the woods and dancing. I had no idea how bonkers it was going to get towards the end of the series. I can’t imagine I’ll ever play another character like her again! It’s insanely unique.”

From a viewer’s standpoint, Maryann was only as interesting as she was because of Michelle Forbes’ performance. True Blood was lucky to have had such an outstanding actress for that prominent role in Season 2.

Michelle Forbes Joins AMC Series, “The Killing”

The AMC network has announced that it has cast True Blood’s very own Michelle Forbes, to play the part of ‘Mitch’ on their new drama “The Killing”.  As most of you know Forbes played the evil Maryann on True Blood and did an amazing job of it.

The Killing” will be filming its pilot episode which will be directed by Patty Jenkins, who also directed the film “Monster”.  It is a drama that centers around the police investigation of a girl’s murder. Forbes’ character, ‘Mitch’, is the victim’s mother.  The part of Mitch’s husband will be played by Brent Sexton, who recently starred in “The Valley of Elah”.  Some other actors that have been picked up for the new series are Eric Laden from “Generation Kill” and Jamie Ann Allman from “The Notebook”. We are sure that Michelle will make an excellent addition to this cast!

True Blood Season 2 UK Premiere With Sam And Michelle

True Blood’s UK fans are in for a crazy, sexy ride when Season 2 arrives on FX this week. Sam Trammell and Michelle Forbes, whose characters are both major players in Season 2, told Scotland’s Daily Record what the show’s U.S. fans already know — the season is rife with new characters and plenty of excitement.

Sam, who plays bar owner Sam Merlotte, said the show took off in its second year, and attributes its success to Alan Ball‘s writing. The exciting, fast-paced tone of Season 2 bolstered the show’s success in a way no one anticipated, he said.

“It’s different, it’s scary, it’s serious, it’s funny, it’s sexy, it’s bloody. It bridges so many different genres and there is nothing else like it on television. Not many programs can mix the fantastical with very good drama but this has both, with social commentary and relationships as well as fantasy and these great creatures.”

Sam‘s character is one of those fantasy creatures, a shape shifter who turns into a dog. To prepare for his role, he took some cues from his West Highland Terrier, Flossy, he said.

“She is very helpful. In one scene last season, I had to sniff someone’s bed like a dog would, so l was rolling around on the bed naked, and l watched the dog to see how she would do it and got some good tips.”

Michelle Forbes, who plays a central role as Maryann in Season 2, shies away from maligning her character as evil — though Sam makes a point of saying she’s “bad news.

“It’s better to say she is enigmatic. Everybody thinks she is bad but, as an actor, I have to play her straight, as no one who is evil thinks they are evil. I think she is warm-hearted.”

She also praised the show’s global success, musing about its mass appeal.

“I love the fact True Blood is popular in Scotland and the way it has worked around the world. It means there’s something universal about the story, and that’s just gorgeous, isn’t it?”

Season 2 starts this Friday in the UK at 10pm on FX (Sky Channel 64 and Virgin Media Channel 157).
