Alex Skarsgård Puts True Blood On Pause To Appear On Live With Kelly & Michael:

The Talk Show Appearance to Promote the Film “Disconnect” Touches on New York, College and Broken Hearts

Askars_on_Kelly_&_MichaelOn Friday, April 9th, Alex Skarsgård made his second appearance on the daytime talk show, ‘LIVE with Kelly & Michael. Mr. Skarsgård plays 1,000 year old Viking vampire Eric Northman, on HBO’s True Blood. His appearance on the show was to promote his new film, ‘Disconnect (Festival Premier Of Film Starring True Blood’s Alex Skarsgård).

Mr. Skarsgård was introduced to an enthusiastic welcome. He greeted audience members with friendly palm slaps. Taking his seat next to Kelly, Michael commented that he was surprised at Mr. Skarsgård’s height. They stood shoulder-to-shoulder to determine which of them was indeed taller. While it almost appeared that Mr. Skarsgård was taller, it was most likely too close to call.

When asked if he owned a home in New York, Mr. Skarsgård answered that he lives in Stockholm and Los Angeles, since he is originally from Stockholm, and films True Blood in Los Angeles. He also explained that he had lived in New York for a brief time while attending college. Having met a woman just before leaving for New York, his stay was brief, as he dropped out of college and returned to Stockholm. Sadly, the relationship didn’t last long after his return home.

Teasers, but No Spoilers, for True Blood Season 6

Mr. Skarsgård explained a little about Eric, the character he plays on True Blood. When asked if he could tell anything about Season 6, he simply answered no. He did go on to elaborate that Eric will find himself facing some challenges because human have always been easy to kill. Now, they have found a way to fight back. What that way is, Mr. Skarsgård wouldn’t share.

In his film, ‘Disconnect’, Mr. Skarsgård plays Derek, a former Marine suffering from PTSD and drifting apart from his wife, played by Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol). After suffering identity theft, the couple find themselves drawn together as they track down whoever victimized them. A clip was played, featuring Mr. Skarsgård and Frank Grillo (Warrior), as they discuss what to do about the identity thieves.

‘Disconnect’ was in theaters in limited release as of April 12th.

The Vampires of True Blood Have a Problem with Authority

Facing Threats From All Directions, Will the Vampire Authority Always Win?

The Mellencamp jokes abound in the aftermath of HBO’s broadcast of the third episode of Season 5 of True Blood. Chris Meloni made his long-awaited appearance as Roman Zimojic, and viewers were introduced to the characters who make up the body of the Authority. Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård) and Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) might be viewed as an external threat to the Authority’s authority, but fans have begun to learn the greatest threat might be an internal one.

Alan Ball has said that Season 5 of True Blood would be a reflection of the current state of America’s political battle between extreme religion and secularism. Episode 3 revealed that the Authority will be the vehicle used to present that battle. Roman, as head of the Authority, is the Guardian of the blood of Lilith, and is the main architect of Mainstreaming. Among the seven Chancellors, there is a faction known as Sanguinistas. These are literal and rigidly dogmatic vampires who believe humans are meant to be cultivated as food.

The Authority: The First. The Last. The Eternal:

For an inside peek at The Authority check out HBO’s Inside True Blood Blog which sports a video titled “The Authority: The First. The Last. The Eternal”. The video is filled with scenes from the episode, as well as interviews with cast and crew. The interviews shed light on events viewers have already seen, and hints at exciting things yet to come. It’s entertaining and well worth the watch.  On the more humorous side is Jessica’s video blog featuring her new BFF, Ginger. The socially awkward baby vamp and the consummate fangbanger discuss cutting edge fashion for the daring vampire. Nothing that leads to Jessica planning to purchase a ‘bandage dress’ on Bill’s credit card can be good. Check out the video below!

Video: UInterview with True Blood’s Kristin Bauer

What True Blood Questions Would YOU Ask Pam?

Kristin Bauer as Pam in HBO's True BloodRecently, Kristin Bauer got interviewed about Season 5 of HBO’s True Blood by fans on UInterview.com.

Kimberly wanted to know about the relationship between Pam and Eric (played by Alexander Skarsgård), suggesting that there was more than the love for a maker going on between the two. Bauer explains (while trying not to give anything away) that Pam’s story and her behaviour both as a vampire and in relation to Eric will be explained in Season 5 – especially within the first 4 episodes!

Benjamin wanted to know all about Tru Blood and what it was made of. Kristin explained that there are actually a few different variants of it since sometimes they need it in different consistencies, but mostly it is made from corn syrup and food colouring.

The question was also asked about what were some of Kristin Bauer’s favorite behind the scenes moments on set. While Bauer quickly pointed out that most days were hilarious on set, not just from the obvious line fluffs, but from pranksters such as Aussie actor Ryan Kwanten (who plays Sookie’s brother, Jason Stackhouse), she did also include one funny incident from Season 4:

One of the biggest laughs that we’ve had at my expense… was in Season 4 when we were outside of Moon Goddess Emporium. We were being pulled into the force field… and were fighting it but we couldn’t, but we were scared, so how do you do that? So the director said; “Alright, let’s start shooting that.” And we go, “Any idea how to do that?” He said; “No”… Stephen and Alex, who are like my bigger brothers, turn and look at me and are like; “This will be good.” I’m like; “Alright, alright, can we have a pact where we don’t laugh at each other?” And they both went; “Oh, no.” They… had to do this spastic wacky walk for five feet. I was about a hundred yards back by myself. Deborah Ann Woll is probably the nicest person on Earth and she laughed so hard at me that her neck was wet with tears. Then they ran over to playback… And they all stood around there and laughed at me.

The last question came from Justin, who wanted to know if Pam’s fondness for the ladies would translate from the Charlaine Harris books into the HBO series. Kristin admits that she is also interested to see how HBO tackles this. Although, she did have reservations:

I suspect, that if we go long enough, and also because of the books, that we are gonna see this side of Pam, and I would also love to know who is this person who Pam would be with. I mean she really just only has a place in her heart for Eric at this time. So the answer to the question is, it’s highly possible, as it is True Blood, and I’m looking forward to it as well, and my mother probably is not.

Make sure you check out the video below for the rest of the great questions viewers asked of Kristin Bauer about Season 5. What would you have asked her? Let us know in the comments below!

Video: Carrie Preston ‘UInterview’ on True Blood Season 5

Arlene Fowler’s Character Has Evolved but Remains a Source of Comic Relief:

Carrie Preston stars as Arlene Fowler in HBO's True BloodCarrie Preston, who plays quirky and prejudiced waitress Arlene Fowler, answered questions from fans about Season 5 of HBO’s series True Blood. Ms. Preston is a graduate of Julliard, is married to actor Michael Emerson (Person of Interest, Lost), and is also a director and producer. In her interview, she answers questions about all of these topics, as well as Arlene’s role as a source of comic relief.

Season 5 has shown fans the evolution of Arlene’s character, according to Ms. Preston, giving her a deeper storyline and more emotional depth. She also says that she has faith in the show’s writers, and has no problem putting Arlene’s character in their hands.

“One can even say that she stands for a little bit of intolerance which we see a lot in society. But what has been fun for me is seeing how the writers are starting to trust me as the seasons have gone on, with more a dramatic story line, a deeper story line, more emotional accessibility to Arlene and from Arlene.”

Vampires and Werewolves Seem Real with the Context of Humans

Ms. Preston believes that what makes True Blood a believable show, despite the presence of supernatural beings, is that it is rooted in reality. Despite the fantasy aspect, True Blood explores the human experience, which gives fans a believable context.

When asked about Arlene’s relationship with Terry, Ms. Preston explains that she is happy with the consistency that relationship has provided the show. Still, she confirms that Arlene and Terry will have problems in Season 5, due to Terry’s past.

“Arlene is someone who wants to always have a man in her life and Terry is the best one yet. So she does everything she can to fight for it.”

While she has never considered the mash-up of True Blood and Lost that her marriage to Lost star Michael Emerson suggests, Ms. Preston does recognize the mash-up of fans of the two shows. She suspects the fantastical elements of both shows are what attract the same fans.

“I love it, I love doing it, I love being able to see something start from an embryonic stage and then just grow into a full grown being.”

Ms. Preston is a producer and director, in addition to being an actor. She loves all three jobs and never wants to have to choose between them. She counts herself lucky that being an actor has given her access to so many good directors. Ms. Preston is very proud of the film she directed last year. That’s What She Said has debuted at Sundance, as well as other film festivals.

Video: True Blood Season 5 Teasers from the Stars Themselves!

Red Carpet Premiere of True Blood:

So who needs teasers to drool over and ponder the implications of while they wait (im)patiently for Season 5 of HBO’s True Blood to start at 9 pm tonight?

I know I certainly do! The Associated Press (AP) video leaves us plenty of tasty little morsels to devour and dissect.

Firstly, Anna Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse) alludes to the fact that we get to see and learn a lot more about the fairy realm in this season of True Blood. Alexander Skarsgard (Eric Northman) and Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) talk about the development of the Eric/Bill bromance and how it is an uneasy but necessary alliance.

As for poor Sam Merlotte, actor Sam Trammell, suggests that this season will be even harder on him than the last one. Joe Manganiello (who plays Alcide Herveaux) also talks about the hot new werewolves being introduced to his pack this year.

Video: True Blood Cast Dishes Spoilers at Season 5 Premiere

New Couples, Old Adversaries, a Long Awaited Backstory:

Alexander Skarsgård, Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer at True Blood Season 5 PremiereWhen the cast of HBO’s True Blood turned out for the Season 5 premiere, they were interviewed on the red carpet. Everyone was happy to share information and insights into their characters and the events of the show itself.

*Warning: Mild spoilers ahead!

Alan Ball said that Season 5 is the season of church and state. It’s the season of politics and religion from the vampire perspective. When asked about Scott Foley’s character, Patrick, Mr. Ball explained that he made a bad decision in the heat of battle and it has far reaching consequences. Finally, Mr. Ball alluded to the introduction of some new romantic couples. He couldn’t elaborate because it would give too many story details away.

Jacob Hopkins (Alexander) described his character as feisty and strong minded. He says Alexander grew more obnoxious with each episode.

Denis O’Hare (Russell Edgington) said that vampire politics are the focus of Season 5. Mr. O’Hare explained that when people are brought back to life, they have to lose something. With Russell’s resurrection, he has lost his vicious ambition. In its place are a playfulness, ease, and humor. But make no mistake, Russell is still really dangerous. He still kills a lot of people, and kills them with glee. When asked, Mr. O’Hare said it took Russell about 4-5 episodes to heal. Most intriguingly of all, Russell unexpectedly falls in love again.

“Something happens from across the room. Something happens while sharing a body. Someone you know. You’ll be very surprised  by it.”

Lucy Griffiths (Nora) explained that Nora and her ‘brother’ Eric love each other very much but haven’t seen one another in a long time. Their relationship can be very fraternal, in that they can be very aggressive toward each other. They make a great team when they work together but otherwise they just mess each other up.

Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) talked of the close relationship that developed between his character and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård).

“We’re good friends and it’s been a lot of fun. And we sort of love each other.”

Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pam) shared that Nora’s appearance caused a little bit of trouble for Pam. Ms. Bauer van Straten explained that she and Alex have been asking for Pam’s backstory for years and were thrilled to finally see it played out. She says the story explains the Pam we know.

Kelly Overton plays a new werewolf character named Rikki. She describes her character as a strong, resourceful werewolf, the opposite of the damsel in distress. She’s determined to find out what happened to the Pack Master and is not loving Alcide at the moment.

Rutina Wesley said that, despite people’s doubts, Tara is coming back.

Michael McMillian (Steve Newlin) said that becoming a vampire might be the best thing that’s ever happened to Steve. At first, he wondered if Steve would be self-loathing but the reality is, he’s very attracted to power. Jason is the guy Steve always wanted to be and he’s coming after Jason. But, Jason has a new vampire friend in Jessica.

“If you mess with Jason, you mess with Jessica.”

Apparently, the first four episodes are a Pam tour de force, and the origin story between Pam and Eric is fantastic. Fans don’t have long to wait now. Season 5 of True Blood premieres on HBO June 10th.

Check out the video below, if you’d prefer to skip to the good stuff (strictly True Blood related), it starts right before the 3-minute mark. Enjoy!

Video: Carrie Preston’s True Blood Season 5 Predictions

Is Arlene’s Family In Danger?

Carrie Preston, True Blood’s ArleneAccording to True Blood actress Carrie Preston, season 5 of the show will be the one to watch. As always, one of the best things about any new season is the host of new characters that come with it. Chris Meloni (Law and Order: SVU), and Scott Foley (Felicity), will be joining the cast this season. Meloni stars as an ancient and very powerful new vamp, and Foley joins as Patrick Devans, a war veteran carrying dangerous baggage.

Preston was quick to note that Foley will be causing more than a few problems for Arlene and Terry. It isn’t yet clear at this point exactly what way Foley will threaten Arlene’s happy marriage, but the actress had this to say during an interview at the Sundance Film Festival:

“Arlene wants to hold onto her man and her family and that’s always going to be her MO. Anything that comes into her situation and is threatening, she’s not going to take that lying down.”

So what are your predictions for what these two guys will get up to during Season 5 of True Blood? Let us know in the comments!

Parrack Wants Hoyt to Go Crazy:

Jim Parrack talks to Pop Sugar TV at the EmmysRecently Jim Parrack talked to Pop Sugar TV while at the Emmys. He was asked about what direction he would like to see his character, Hoyt Fortenberry take on HBO’s True Blood. Here is what he had to say:

“Someone with that much inherent goodness, you can spend your goodness up like a currency, and pretty soon the account is empty. Right? So I don’t know what is going to happen next, but I do know that the three people that [he’s] had in Hoyt’s life… have betrayed him terribly and in a very short amount of time.  So what does someone do who’s used to living for other people and suddenly they’re all gone?”

Parrack was happy to answer his own question. He would like to see Hoyt just go crazy. He would like to see booze, drugs and women involved. Murder was not out of the question for him either.

Video: Stephen Moyer on Regis & Kelly

Our Favorite 175-year-old Vampire:

Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) HBO promo S4Stephen Moyer recently made a guest appearance on Regis & Kelly.  During his visit to the show he made the announcement that he and his wife, Anna Paquin just celebrated their first anniversary together!  Happy Belated Anniversary, Stephen and Anna!  When discussing married life he admitted that he was constantly surprised that their life together was always getting better and better.  How sweet!  They asked him if he considered himself to be a romantic — he said, “I am fairly romantic, I think I am!”, and quickly realized he would need to offer an example of just how romantic he is.  Moyer began to talk about the fact that he and Paquin are huge fans of boxing and that he recently flew to Las Vegas in order to get her a gift.  Want to know what the gift was?  Amir Khan’s boxing wraps from his match!  He also talked a little bit about what their summer consisted of.  After they finished shooting the last episodes of True Blood, he, Paquin, and his kids visited a ranch in Montana.  According to Moyer, they rode horses for hours daily and went tubing, and the overall experience and beauty of the place was breathtaking.  He also talked about his recent venture to Yellowstone Park with his children while his wife had other obligations to attend.  Sounds to me like they had quite an amazing summer!

Video: Joe Manganiello Interview with Syfy Germany Part 2!

Sock or Sausage Casing?

Joe Manganiello as Alcide HerveauxIs neither an option?  Totally kidding!  If you enjoyed watching the first three videos from Joe Manganiello’s interview with Syfy Germany then you are bound to enjoy the newly posted videos from their interview as well!  During his interview one of the questions he was asked was what scene he remembered most from True Blood.  He answered that so far his most memorable scene was during the filming of Season 4, Episode 4.  (I think we all remember that episode clearly.  Or at least I do!)  He added that during that episode his character gets into a confrontation with Alexander Skarsgård and that there was a lot of nudity involved and a wild animal as well.  Manganiello notes that whenever there is a wolf on set, there are trainers there who must keep its attention, and in order to do so during this episode they waved raw meat over his shoulder, while he was naked (aside from his “sock”), which he describes as a “wild experience.”  Lastly, he explained that his brother would joke with him and threaten to sneak into his trailer and switch his sock out for a sausage casing which would make him very nervous.  Honestly though, would anyone complain if that had happened?  My guess is probably not!

When asked how he manages to stay fit for his role as Alcide Herveaux, he explained that he just has to make time to do it, because it’s his business to do it.  He admits that it’d be easier for him not to work out and stay in shape, but then adds that he loves the show and that being fit is part of his character.  He then points out that he used to idolize Robert De Niro (Raging Bull, Cape Fear), as well as Edward Norton and Brad Pitt (Fight Club) for what they each were required to do physically for their roles and the body transformations they were able to make.  He then explains that in the books the character of Alcide is described as “an animal with biceps the size of boulders,” and that he wanted to match that because werewolves are supposed to possess supernatural strength.  (Personally, I think he fits that description just fine!)

Manganiello goes on to discuss which genre he prefers to perform in, and also points out some of the struggles we face each day that fit hand-in-hand with some of the storylines on True Blood.  (Example:  Should vampires and humans be allowed to marry? Should members of the same sex be allowed to marry?)  When he is asked what other role he’d enjoy giving a try on the show he states that he’d like to play a vampire.  He goes on to describe an event from his past when he was three years old involving a Dracula costume, a haunted house, a vampire, and a coffin which was particularly amusing!  (Watch the video for the whole story!)  One of the last questions he is asked is why he feels that True Blood is so successful worldwide.  His response:

“I think it’s funny.  I think it’s very poignant.  People find it true on a human level which is interesting, because it’s a show about vampires and werewolves and fairies and witches, but it’s really about people struggling to be human.  It talks about love and death and also, I thinks it’s the sexiest show on TV.  I think it’s the sexiest show ever made, and I think it’s got the best cast ever put together, and Alan Ball is an incredible writer, and the rest of the writers are unbelievable, and the costume department is amazing, and the set designing department is amazing, so it truly is a collection of the best people in the business, and we have such a huge international cast.   Actors from countries all around the world, from Greece and England and Sweden and Denmark and the United States, and you put them all together.  Put them all together, get everybody naked, throw some blood in there, and it’s a lot of fun.”

I don’t think he could have described the show any better!  Be sure to watch the videos posted below and let us know what you think in the comment section!

A huge thank you to NBC Universal for the contribution!

Video: True Blood’s Pam is “Completely Unapologetic”

Kristin Bauer Dishes on her ‘Meaty’ Vampire Role:

PamSeason4TrueBloodSpellboundThe beautiful and self described “softie” Kristin Bauer Van Straten sat down with Wired during Comic-Con, sharing with us about her her role as Vampire Pam.

“Pam is the most unapologetic vampire. She’s happy to be a vampire, she was done with humanity, so it’s a very clear, simple character as opposed to being myself – you know, human. Everything is so complex, nothing is black and white in our lives. For Pam it’s very black or white.”

But is Kristin like her character Pam? She explains:

“I am such a softie, I cry about 30 times a day and somehow to play this relentless bitch is so much fun. I can’t even explain that to you.”

It’s easy to see that Pam doesn’t have to watch her words, or worry about being accepted. Even with her rotting face this season, Pam – and Kristin – take the Witchs’ spell in stride.

“It was really challenging, but really meaty for me – no pun intended.”

Video: TV Guide Talks to Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgård and Joe Manganiello

The Men of True Blood Talk:

Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgard and Joe Manganiello posing for TV GuideAs Alan Ball so succinctly said about the men of True Blood:

“They’re all insanely beautiful.”

These three are also great trapped in a room together being photographed and interviewed for TV Guide. Their camaraderie is immediately apparent, especially when talking about working on the set together. Joe Manganiello (who plays Alcide Herveaux) commented about being the new guy on set:

“The new guy on a show can feel like an outsider. There can be egos and things like that. But Anna was completely friendly, welcoming. Still, the guys won’t let me make eye contact.”

Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) was quick to follow up with:

“I make him get on his knees so we’re eye-to-eye.”

TV Guide had plenty of questions about upcoming episodes in Season 4. Firstly, they wanted to hear about how the lives of their characters had changed since the end of Season 3. While Bill seems to be growing as a result of his promotion and finally being able to let go of Sookie, Alcide and Eric (played by Alexander Skarsgård) appear to have many personal struggles ahead of them. Although Stephen does concede that the Eric and Sookie storyline will be the talking point of the season.

This led to conversation revolving around the fact that while Bill and Sookie have split, Stephen and Anna (who are married in real life), haven’t. While there must be some awkwardness between the actors, they are quick to dispel this. They all take on the roles, and the complicated scenes dished out, as adults.

TV Guide was interested to hear about Anna Paquin in real life. Stephen was the first one to volunteer:

“She’s merciless in her ridicule of everybody, and she expects the same back.”

Joe admits that he spent his first season dressed in what Anna referred to as “Giant Joe’s Giant Jumpsuit.” There was also a song composed to go along with it.

And once again the onset camaraderie was bought up with talk about the ‘sock’ (this is a modesty device worn by men in nude scenes) being tossed around as well as a reference to a Valentine’s Day shoot that involved Alexander, Joe, an animal and a large body of water. Joe described the day as:

“Water, an animal, lots of nudity and lots of screaming.”

And speaking of animals, Joe revealed that the sex scenes this season will become increasingly more risque. There will be werewolf sex this time around!

TV Guide finished up asking the three about their workout regimes. While Stephen and Alexander both work out three days a week, Joe ups the ante by working out twice a day, six days a week. According to Alexander, Joe can make his pecs dance. Joe’s response?

“Alex hasn’t looked me in the eye once. I’m like, ‘Up here, Alex. Up here.’”

Video: Science Fiction Book Club Interviews Charlaine Harris

 From Sookie’s Creator:

Charlaine Harris Science Fiction Book Club InterviewIn a most charming interview with Senior Editor Rome Quezada of the Science Fiction Book Club, Charlaine Harris discusses the Sookie Stackhouse series, Alan Ball, and books & authors that should be on everyone’s “To Read” list.

Mr. Quezada wishes the Sookie series a Happy 10th Anniversary, to which Mrs. Harris graciously gives thanks, and they proceed to talk about its amazing success.  Saying she lives in a small town, Harris actually feels “divorced” from all the hoopla.  It didn’t hit her until recently, when she received a wall plaque highlighting all of her bestsellers, how amazing this whole thing really is.

The astounding success of the HBO show True Blood has increased foreign book sales, and Harris has enjoyed reading e-mails from all over the world that tell her how much her books are enjoyed.  She finds the demographic abroad to be slightly different from that in the States, sharing that it surprised her to find that in Poland, for example, most of her fans were teenagers.  She thought to herself at one point, “It’s just so strange to me to think of people enjoying the adventures of a small-town Southern barmaid”.

When asked what, if anything, she has hoped to accomplish by writing the Southern Vampire Mysteries, Harris responds:

“First and foremost, I hope I’m writing a good adventure story, because that’s my goal.  But I’m also trying to say something about exclusionism.  I’m no preacher but I like to put in a good word for accepting people as they are.”

Discussing Alan Ball and True Blood, Harris says she does think, “…they got the spirit of the books exactly right”.  She feels Alan Ball, being a fellow Southerner, “gets” her, and the “mixture of comedy and horror” that her writing expresses.  All in all, she just likes him and thinks he’s a genius.  As do we all!

Harris shares with us some of her current favorite authors and books:

Justin Cronin – Passage

Patrick Rothfuss – Kingkiller Chronicles: The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear

Joan Frances Turner – Dust

And the unreleased Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, for which she wrote a positive blurb: “This non-gamer loved every page of Ready Player One.”

Watch the video, and see for yourself what a classy, intelligent Southern Belle Charlaine Harris is.

Thanks for the scoop, John! Remember, Truebies, we welcome your contributions!
