Season 5 May Reveal How Pam Became A Vamp

A Trip Back In Time For Pam?

Kristin Bauer van Straten as vampire PamMany True Blood fans love the show’s in depth flashbacks, and judging from recent casting calls Alan Ball may be gearing up to give fans a flashback we’ve all been anticipating for a long time during Season 5.

Ball is looking for two characters in particular. A non-threatening man in his 30s and a prostitute oddly named “Washcloth Helen.” Both of these characters will be introduced to fans during a flashback to a San Francisco brothel in 1905.

The significance in this may be in the date. According to author Charlaine Harris, this is the year that Pam became a vampire. In the novels her transformation takes place in London, not San Francisco, but this may just be one of the many changes Alan Ball has made to the series. I for one am glad to still have Lafayette around!

Of course there is always the possibility that this scene has nothing to do with Pam or how she was made into a vampire. Now that she’s all pretty again, I hope we get to see lots more of my favorite sassy vamp this upcoming season!

True Blood’s Alan Ball Signs Up for HBO’s Wichita

Based on the Life of Dr. George Tiller:

Alan BallTrue Blood’s creator, Alan Ball, has several new shows in various stages of development. The first being an hour long drama set in the late term abortion clinic of real life Dr. George Tiller (who was shot and killed by anti-abortion activist, Scott Roeder in 2009) and goes by the name of Wichita.

Ball, along with Jimmy Miller, are signed on as executive producers. Devin Friedman, who wrote a GQ article on Dr. Tiller, will serve as the show’s writer as well as co-executive producer.

Besides Wichita, Alan Ball will be teaming up with HBO’s sister network, Cinemax to (once again) executive produce a new show called Banshee. This project is set in the Amish area of Pennsylvania. The show will center around an ex-con posing as a sheriff in an Amish town.

If that isn’t enough to fill Alan Ball’s plate, he will also be directing what is being described as a dark comedy pitch for Paramount.

Here’s hoping True Blood doesn’t suffer as a result.

The Hollywood Reporter Lists Alan Ball in Their Top 50

Ball Makes 4th Annual Power Showrunner List:

Alan Ball creator of HBO's True BloodThe Hollywood Reporter has announced its 4th annual Top 50 Power Showrunner list, and it looks like Alan Ball (HBO’s True Blood), has made the cut!

And how does The Hollywood Reporter compile this list, I hear you ask? Well, they use data collected from Neilsen ratings as well as Emmy related attention. These people must also have a show that has been airing for at least one season, as well as show considerable professionalism in relation to their work.

Seems like Alan Ball is the talk of the town for all the RIGHT reasons!

Alan Ball Talks Aussies and Religion with Sydney Morning Herald

On Working with Aussies:

Alan Ball HBO promo S4Alan Ball is the creative person behind HBO’s hit series, True Blood, as well as Six Feet Under. While he appears to be very good at this, he is also great at hiring Aussie actors, namely Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse), Rachel Griffith (Six Feet Under) and Toni Collette (Towelhead). The Sydney Morning Herald asked Ball why he is so fond of Aussie actors, and why he chose Ryan Kwanten to fulfill the role of Jason Stackhouse:

“You guys create some really fantastic actors. It’s just the talent… I went to see this movie called Flicka, a family movie about a brother and sister and a horse, and he was the handsome, charming, not-so-intellectually developed brother. He was Jason. I called my casting director that day.”

While Alan Ball is known for his dark and quirky shows, it is possible that early childhood tragedy may have helped shape this. When Ball was 13, his sister was killed in a car accident. His family, as a result turned to religion. As Ball grew older, his religious path turned away from the family’s beliefs and towards Buddhism:

“Life is suffering. We have desires and expectations and egos and we compare the reality we have, which is miraculous and wondrous, with this reality we desire. That somehow distances us from actually taking part fully with the reality we do have and that creates suffering.”

Make sure you check out the full article here.

Truebies, do you like the choices Mr. Ball has made in the past? Besides True Blood, obviously, are you a fan of his work? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

True Blood Creator Alan Ball’s New Series “Banshee”

Alan Ball Set to Executive Produce a Cinemax Series:

True Blood creator Alan Ball (WB)Alan Ball, the mastermind behind our favorite show on television, HBO’s True Blood, will be working on a new Cinemax series titled “Banshee”. Ball will be the executive producer. Here’s a brief synopsis of the show:

“The series will be set in a small town in Pennsylvania Amish country (the titular Banshee) and will feature an enigmatic ex-con who’s also an expert in martial arts. Darkly comic in tone, the show will have the ex-con posing as a murdered sheriff, imposing his own brand of justice while also cooking up plans that serve his own interests.”

The series is still in the working stages. There is no premiere date, no casting has been done, but the hope is that shooting will begin spring of 2012. Truebies, what do you think of the synopsis? Does it spark your interest?

True Blood Introduces New Character in Season 4 Finale

Scott Foley as “Patrick”, Terry’s Army Buddy:

Scott Foley, Patrick on HBO’s True Blood (Cliff Lipson/CBS)Todd LoweTerry Bellefleur on True Blood, has been acting with a creepy baby and creepy baby doll all season and he is looking forward to working with adults again. There will be a whole lot of drama going down between vampires, witches, shifters and werewolves this Sunday on the Season 4 finale. Somewhere in the middle of that we will be introduced to a new character, Patrick played by actor Scott Foley, an old army buddy of Terry’s.  Lowe explains why he [Patrick] is coming to Bon Temps now:

“He looked [Terry] up. He found him and I guess he has something to say and something to talk about. You don’t just wander in and find someone at their workplace unless you have something important to share with him.”

Their encounter will not be a long one, Lowe reveals, and from what he says above it will take place at Merlotte’s. Foley‘s character is expected to return in Season 5 in a more substantial role. Lowe hopes that this character’s entrance into the series means that True Blood’s audience will get to know more about Terry’s past, maybe see some flashbacks of his time in the war. Lowe said about Terry’s past:

“I’d like to see where his post-traumatic stress disorder came from. Was it a series of events? Was it a friend or life that was lost in front of him? Was it someone’s life that he took? I’d like to see where that goes and see why Terry is so screwed up… I have a feeling it’s going to go kind of dark. I got a hint from Alan Ball that we’re going to see a little darker side to Terry.”

The season finale will take place during Halloween. Lowe’s response to this spooky setting for the finale:

“Wouldn’t you think it’d be just a little bit anticlimactic with all this other stuff going on? But I guess the people of Bon Temps find a way to celebrate the Halloween Holiday.”

We are mere days away from the finale of Season 4, but what about Season 5 and all it will have in store for Terry Bellefleur? Are you exited to see Terry’s character grow and learn more about his past? Will the arrival of Patrick bring conflict to Terry’s life? Is it possible this old war buddy is a supernatural? Share you ideas and theories with us in the comments section below.

HBO’s True Blood Renewed for Season 5!

Alan Ball Producer of HBO's True Blood

Alan Ball Signed July 28th

In July Alan Ball signed a contract with HBO for several other series and to stay on for Season 5 of True Blood.

Ball said Thursday during HBO’s presentation at the summer Television Critics’ Association tour stop that he has inked a deal for another year on the series, effectively tipping the network’s hand that a fifth-season renewal could be imminent. “There will be an end for me at some point but I just closed a deal to do another season,” he said. “I don’t have any desire to leave because I’m having more fun than I ever had in my life.” Ball later told The Hollywood Reporter that his deal is exclusive to HBO, where he has a “couple pilots” in development.

HBO Announces Season 5

Today, HBO announced that True Blood was officially renewed for Season 5! The season will consist of the normal 12 episodes (too few!).

The president of HBO Programming, Michael Lombardo, said “I am thrilled that True Blood continues to enjoy a phenomenal reception from both subscribers and critics. Alan Ball and his gifted team have devised the greatest thrill ride on TV.”  Creator Alan Ball also expressed happiness at the news: “I remain amazed and delighted by the enthusiasm of our viewers.  I can’t imagine having more fun than this.”

New Pictures of Your Favorite True Blood Stars

Photographed by Entertainment Weekly at Comic-Con 2011:

True Blood cast EW Comic-Con 2011True Blood actors were definitely a hit at the recent 2011 Comic-Con in San Diego. Even Entertainment Weekly had its eyes and ears there to catch all the action and the HOT stars of HBO’s vampire hit show.

The ensemble below consists of: Creator and executive producer Alan Ball, Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pam), Alexander Skarsgård (Eric), Kevin Alejandro (Jesus), and Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette).

Alan Ball ensemble EW Comic-Con 2011

The first solo picture that was shown in a recent online article is none other than Anna Paquin, who plays a bubbly girl-next-door waitress, with a knack for getting the attention of every supernatural in Louisiana, Sookie Stackhouse — which I might add is quite a few!

Anna Paquin EW Comic-Con 2011

Next is Paquin’s super sexy husband, Stephen Moyer. He plays the sensitive vampire, Bill Compton, who since the very first episode has been a very big part of Sookie’s life. This picture of him looks wonderful. His dark hair has red undertones which really brings out his beautiful eyes. I can see why Paquin wants to wake up to his face every morning.

Stephen Moyer EW Comic-Con 2011

Rutina Wesley has always looked great throughout the last four seasons, but I feel like something about her this season has made her beauty completely stand out.  Maybe it has something to do with her character Tara Thornton “dipping into the lady pond.” Tara has always been Sookie’s best friend and even though there have been some blow ups, I still believe these two will come out on top.

Rutina Wesley EW Comic-Con 2011

Deborah Ann Woll has quickly become True Blood’s hottest vampire. She came on the scene during season 2, and has been turning heads ever since. While she plays a young vampire created by her maker Bill Compton, her ice blue eyes tell you she is ready to take charge. Her character Jessica has become a recent love interest of Hoyt, but it seems Hoyt may  have some competition from someone who is very close to him.

Deborah Ann Woll EW Comic-Con 2011

Ryan Kwanten is definitely the little brother that all of us wish our best friend had. This Aussie has stolen our hearts since his first scene as Jason Stackhouse. In this picture, you can see that one of his favorite pastimes is hitting the gym!

Ryan Kwanten EW Comic-Con 2011

Last but certainly not least, is the man I wouldn’t mind waking up next to! Alexander Skarsgård plays the Viking vampire Eric Northman. He has not so patiently been biding his time for the attention of Sookie Stackhouse. It looks like he’s gotten what he’s been wishing for, just remember that old saying: “be careful what you wish for”.

True Blood’s Alan Ball Signs on for Season 5

“True Blood” Creator Will Remain at Least One More Year:

Alan BallAlan Ball, HBO’s True Blood mastermind and show runner, had previously stated that he was in negotiations for a fifth season, but may leave after that. At the Television Critics’ Association he made it clear that he isn’t going anywhere – for now. Ball said:

“There will be an end for me at some point but I just closed a deal to do another season… I don’t have any desire to leave because I’m having more fun than I ever had in my life.”

Thank goodness! True Blood wouldn’t be the same without him. Are you happy Alan Ball is staying with the show? How many seasons will he stay involved? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section.

HBO’s True Blood Comic-Con 2011 Panel: Spoilers and More!

The Cast and Alan Ball Answer Moderator and Audience Questions:

Comic-Con 2011 logoThe True Blood cast came out on stage at ComicCon to rousing applause and it’s clear from these videos, there were many die-hard fans in the room. Many spoilers were announced and teasers were uncovered. The panel included: Anna Paquin (Sookie), Stephen Moyer (Bill), Ryan Kwanten (Jason), Rutina Wesley (Tara), Alexander Skarsgård (Eric), Kevin Alejandro (Jesus), Kristin Bauer (Pam), Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette), Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica), and Alan Ball.

A few juicy bits gleamed from these videos:

  • Rutina Wesley “secretly loves the UFC”.
  • When an audience member asked if Eric will remember his time with Sookie, Alan replied: “I feel like that’s too much to give away…no, yes, maybe” Of course, the one question we all wanted answered!
  • When asked if there was any hope for Bill and Sookie the audience started to cheer, but it quickly turned to boos.
  • Anna takes you through the “sausage party” that consisted of her, Joe and Alexander filming the scene at the lake – minus the clothes for the men.
  • The panel is asked what their favorite parts of the season have been so far – some answers might surprise you!
  • The Comic-Con panel contains actors from many nations and it’s apparent when the audience starts asking questions that they are just as multinational.
  • My favorite question of the night was to Alexander Skarsgård: “What in his (Eric’s) history created such a straight up badass?”
  • The most interesting bit of news came from an audience member who asked if the show keeps up the pace it has with the books (a book a season). How long will this show stay on the air? Alan’s response: “As we get further down the road less and less, this season is based on the book…I think the show has a tremendous amount of life. I hope to get to the point where it becomes a problem for us in the writers room why the vampires are aging.”
  • Noticable absences were Sam Trammell home expecting his baby twins, and Joe Manganiello who is working on a film project.

There is so much more to see in these videos. Check them out and tell us what questions you would have asked, or what answer you would have liked to hear!

Spoiler Alert! Sookie and Eric’s Shower Scene

Will it Happen?

Sookie and Eric S4 Ep5There has been plenty of speculation from True Blood fans about the infamous shower scene that occurs in book four, Dead to the World, by Charlaine Harris. Will it happen, or won’t it? Fans of the books have been more than a little concerned that the scene would be dropped from the HBO series since Sookie (Anna Paquin) has already been involved in another hot shower scene in Season 3, involving her ex, Bill Compton (played by real-life husband, Stephen Moyer).

Well, it can now be revealed that Alan Ball has this to say about the relationship between Sookie, Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) and that scene:

“There is a shower scene. But it is not a direct re-enactment of the shower scene in the book. It goes to a slightly different place. Sookie and Eric are in the shower together. Everybody who’s been waiting for Sookie and Eric to hook up, this will be a very good season for them.”

Then, at Comic-Con 2011, he followed up with:

“There will be a moment in the show when Sookie and Eric will be in a shower. It may not be exactly what happened in the books. It may be weirder and dirtier.”

Now fans of the books are left wondering what is weirder than using the term ‘Mr. Happy’ to describe a part of Eric’s anatomy and refering to Sookie’s breasts as “quivering like puppies who wanted to be petted”?

What do you think the shower scene will be like?

True Blood at Comic-Con: Revelations for Season 4

The Sexy Stars of True Blood Q&A at Comic-Con:

TB Season 4 poster-redThe cast of True Blood made their appearance at Comic-Con this past weekend and looked good doing so!  Many of the cast members, as well as creator Alan Ball, were there and took part in the discussion.  Fortunately for us, many of the questions we have regarding Season 4 were answered or at least alluded to!  (Click here to see pictures of the cast at Comic-Con)

Jason/Jessica/Hoyt Possible Love Triangle?

One of the most burning questions after last week’s episode was:  What will happen between Jessica and Jason now that Jason has ingested her blood? Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica) was the first to comment suggesting that she’s more interested to see what will happen to Jason once the effects of the V wear off.  Jason’s ceremonial werepanther rape scenes were also a topic for discussion.  Ryan Kwanten (Jason) joked that he felt Jason might have actually enjoyed being called “ghost daddy.”  Kwanten also stated that filming those scenes was quite the challenge for him, considering he was only able to use his face in order to act them out.

The Origin of Eric’s New Attire?

Perhaps one of the more humorous discussions was the topic of Eric’s new wardrobe upon his unexpected arrival at Sookie’s place.  Alexander Skarsgård (Eric) suggested that his new choice of attire more than likely wasn’t Jason’s but could possibly be something that Hoyt might have left behind at some point in time.  Skarsgård joked:

“It’s the mystery of the season.”

while Alan Ball added that it was a “really dorky outfit,” but one that Skarsgård could wear “and still be insanely hot.”  I must admit, I second that notion!

What Will Come of Bill & Portia’s Relationship?

When the topic of Bill’s incestuous relationship with Portia Bellefleur (Courtney Ford) was brought up, Stephen Moyer joked that it would have probably been a good idea for Bill to have “gone to the local library,” and then added, “maybe it wasn’t open at night.”  Moyer reassured the crowd that Bill and Portia will see each other again but that at the moment, “Bill has bigger fish to fry.”

Pam’s Appalling New Look:

Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pam) discussed the current state of her morbid appearance and how time-consuming the process was to look that convincing.  She added that one way they achieved her dreadful appearance included a mixture of tapioca pudding and coffee grinds.  When asked whether or not we would get to see how and why Eric created Pam, his progeny, Ball was quick to answer no.  He added that we’ll “definitely see it in Season 5.”

Is Baby Mikey Evil?

Another pressing topic was that of baby Mikey.  Is something wrong with him or is it that dreaded doll that keeps showing up?  Is René’s evil spirit haunting Arlene?  When asked if we would find out what exactly is going on with Arlene’s baby, Ball answered:

“Yes, we will find out, and it’s something really creepy.”

There you have it folks, straight from the usually-more-cryptic horse’s mouth. Is this going to be a good season, or what?

Kristin talks about a troubled time in her life, and what got her through it. In her touching, tearful message, she says, “You just never know what’s around the corner. Just stick around and see. It gets better.”

Rutina urges:

“Remember — you’re perfect, just the way you are. And believe in yourself, ’cause I believe in you. And know that you’re worth it.”

In Alexander’s PSA, he asserts:

“Every single human being has equal value.”

Alan shares his experience with childhood bullying, and says:

Will True Blood’s Eric and Sookie Have Their Long Awaited Shower Scene?

Comic-Con’s True Blood Panel Delivers Elusive Answers (SPOILERS!):

TB cast at Comic-Con 2011 AP Photo/Denis Poroy

The question on everyone’s mind at Comic-Con was: will there be a shower scene and how closely will it follow the book? Alan Ball‘s response:

“There will be a moment where Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) are together in the shower. But it may be weirder and dirtier than the one in the book.”

Weirder and dirtier? Well we should expect nothing less from True Blood. Who wants clean and normal? Ball also commented on Season 5 and promises that there will be a male/female strip club. Ball also said that at the strip club there would be “a completely different twisted supernatural aspect”.

Many fans asked if Sam (Sam Trammell) and Tara (Rutina Wesley) have any hope of getting back together or if their romance is over? Ball’s response was evasive: “Nothing is ever done on this show.” Something we all know to be true on True Blood.

We will also get to see how Eric made his progeny Pam (Kristin Bauer) next season, something many fans have been waiting a long time to see.

The Comic-Con crowd got a sneak peak at a trailer for the rest of Season 4. It ends with Sookie lying on the ground in a graveyard bleeding from the stomach. A million questions rush through one’s head after seeing it, but we shall just have to wait until next Sunday and the Sunday after that…

Alan Ball did make a rather mysterious statement about Sookie and her Fairy heritage:

“For those who read the books, you know that fairies are born in litters and are identical.”

Does this mean we will be seeing more of Claudine in some way?

Many of us have been wondering, why haven’t we seen more naked Sookie? Ball’s answer:

“She takes her clothes off all the time.”

Thank goodness, because a naked Sookie usually means there is a naked vampire!

‘True Blood’: Alan Ball and Charlaine Harris discuss Sunday’s shocking death of [SPOILER] —

Statements from Ball and Harris

Entertainment Weekly’s EW.com has spoken exclusively to True Blood executive producer Alan Ball and Sookie Stackhouse series author Charlaine Harris about the death of Claudine in this past Sunday’s episode. Many fans of Harris’ original novels were surprised by the death scene, which doesn’t occur until much later in the book series. But there’s more left to see in Sookie’s fairy world:

“After everything that was going on with the fairies in the first episode, I think we wanted to sort of put a pin in that, but obviously it’s not over,” says Ball. “I felt it would have more impact if it was someone we knew as opposed to just a random fairy.”

And Harris is okay with the change.

“If [Ball] can be gracious to me, I can certainly be gracious enough to wait and see where he’s going.”
