Charlaine Harris Loves That True Blood Is Different

Author of the Sookie Stackhouse Novels Reminds Fans HBO’s True Blood Makes Changes:

fair use cover of deadlocked harrisIn a Facebook post dated June 11, 2012, 1:51 PM, Charlaine Harris told her readers that she loves True Blood. The author of the Sookie Stackhouse novels, on which HBO’s popular series is based, stated that her love included the differences between True Blood and her novels.

Ms. Harris went on to remind the readers that she only writes the Sookie Stackhouse novels, and not stories or scripts for True Blood. Charlaine acknowledges that many readers and viewers often confuse the two. Citing a common error, Ms. Harris clarified that she did not give Eric Northman two makers. In her novels, Godric is not Eric’s maker, in fact they are not even friends. It was the writers for True Blood who wrote Godric as Eric’s maker, establishing a distinct change from Ms. Harris’ novels.

You can read the post for yourself, including comments from Ms. Harris’ readers.

Spoiler – Casting Call for Season 5 of True Blood

Alan Ball Needs Two Female Actors:

Alexander Skarsgård as EricSo you love True Blood? And you think you can act? Well, HBO and Alan Ball are on the hunt for two new strong female vampire roles. Nudity is a possibility – but would we expect anything less of True Blood?

The first role calls for a female between the ages of 25 and 35. The character’s name is Nora and she is a progeny of Godric’s, so there should be a few juicy scenes alongside the awesome Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård).

The second role is something to really sink your teeth into (pun intended). If you are a fan of the Bible, then her name will be familiar. She is the daughter of Herodias from the New Testament. Yes, her name is Salome! In Season 5, Salome will be a powerful and very ancient vampire – something that was kept out of the Bible, for obvious reasons. She is also just a little bit crazy.

So, if you think you’ve got what it takes, then now is the time to audition for your part on True Blood. (Unfortunately, we can’t help you with that!)

True Blood Season 4, Episode 5, “Me and the Devil” –Review/Recap

Oh my Godric!

Eric and Godric S4 Ep5This episode begins where the previous episode left off, with Tommy being dragged mercilessly across the ground with a chain around his neck. Unfortunately for Tommy, his parents haven’t changed after all. Just as Joe Lee releases the tight grip he has on the chain and turns his back, Tommy begins to fight back — with the end result of him accidentally killing both of his parents. I have to admit though, I saw something like this coming to them eventually…

Still in the dark, abandoned woods, a confused Marnie questions Lafayette, Jesus, and Tara as to “what just happened?” Lafayette is quick to answer that she just successfully pissed off yet another vampire and then took a nap. Marnie then tries to convince the trio that a spirit possessed her body and saved them all, once again, from the vicious vamps. Marnie is convinced that this spirit is their ‘protector,’ but unconvinced by her explanation, they all quickly leave.

Arlene and Terry decide that the best thing they can do for their family is to call the Reverend and have him rid the house of whatever spirit is lurking within the walls. Reverend Daniels and the new Mrs. Reverend Daniels (aka: Tara Thornton’s crazy mother) show up and carry out their version of what appears to be an exorcism with a little bit of humor thrown in. Come on, I know I wasn’t the only one laughing hysterically at their catchy little tune! It’s apparent that both Arlene and Terry had more confidence in the Reverend and Mrs. Daniels than they should have, because they didn’t waste any time hopping into bed, oblivious to the pack of matches that suddenly erupted in flames on a nearby chest of drawers.

Am I the only one whose heart skipped a beat as soon as I laid eyes upon a confused, shirtless Eric standing in the doorway of Sookie’s room, alongside the pale, nevertheless stunning deity, also known as Godric? Godric tries to convince Eric to join him in draining Sookie, but Eric clearly doesn’t want any part in it. As much as I hoped Eric wasn’t dreaming and that Godric was somehow still ‘alive,’ as soon as Godric began to attempt to convince Eric to drink Sookie’s blood, I knew it had to be a dream. Eric awakens from the dream and goes directly to Sookie’s room, waking her in the process. “Eric! What the hell!” she yells, and after a few seconds he replies with the simple explanation of, “I had a bad dream.” Classic. If I didn’t know any better I would think that this was yet another one of the old Eric’s tricks to get closer to Sookie, but fortunately this isn’t the case. Sookie spends the next several moments consoling Eric after his ‘bad dream’ left him not only confused but depressed as well. He asks if he can stay there, in bed with her until sunrise, and she agrees as long as he promises to keep his fangs and hands to himself. Eric stated:

“I would never hurt anyone as beautiful as you.”

Who else out there is loving amnesiac Eric and his adorable newly acquired  innocence?

Bill is surprised to find a determined Portia at his door. She comes in and pushes herself on him, but he’s quick to remind her that they share the same bloodline and that their relationship can no longer continue where they had left off. Portia, who is apparently pro-incest, tries her best to convince Bill that there is nothing wrong with the two of them being in a relationship. However, Bill still refuses to accept her advances, and finally he glamours her into being completely terrified of him.

The next day Sookie pays Marnie a visit and asks for a reading. At first Marnie declines, but she soon gives in and gives Sookie the reading she asked for. Sookie then begins to listen in to Marnie’s thoughts, and before long Marnie describes someone close to Sookie who has a message for her. Sookie is surprised to learn that her Gran wants to know if she’s falling in love and also asks her to look after her brother. Then, Gran begins talking to her directly knowing that Sookie is listening in to Marnie’s thoughts. She advises her to get away from this woman quickly because she poses great danger, and Sookie takes her advice and leaves.

Lafayette and Jesus leave Bon Temps in an attempt to find Jesus’ grandfather, a shaman, who he believes will be able to help them with their current vampire crisis, while Sam and Tommy come up with a plan to hide the bodies of their parents. On the way to dispose of their corpses, Andy Bellefleur pulls them over to the side of the road and insists on searching the van after seeing blood smeared on the door. Lucky for them, Tommy thinks fast and shifts into an alligator, not only terrifying Andy but also satisfying his curiosity as to the contents of the van in the process.

Hoyt and Jason are eating lunch at Merlotte’s when Jason overhears Holly mention that the full moon is the following night. Jason instantly goes into panic mode at this realization, unsure of just what will happen to him once the moon is full. Alcide answers a knock at the door to find a man he doesn’t recognize, who introduces himself as Marcus Bozeman, the pack master of Shreveport. Marcus is furious that Alcide hasn’t made any attempt to stop by and introduce himself to the pack. Alcide, unimpressed, explains that he’s “currently exploring free agency” and that if Marcus doesn’t get his foot out of the door, that he’ll break it. Marcus then leaves infuriated.

Sam and Tommy finally arrive at the swamp and begin to toss the corpses in the water; while in the process Tommy begins to have a breakdown and is certain that he is going to Hell for murdering his parents. Sam explains to him that murder is ok as long as you’re at war or defending yourself, and finally concludes that Tommy was at war with his parents and murdered them in self defense, so he has no reason to fret.

If the Daniels’ hymn near the beginning of the episode didn’t make you laugh, Jason, Jessica, and Hoyt’s next scene surely did. Jason is shocked to find Jessica in bed with him and even more shocked that after she has “rocked his world”, his vision clears — and rather than Jessica being on top of him, it is Hoyt. He quickly awakens from the dream, traumatized by what he has just witnessed in his unconscious state.

Back at “Sookie’s” house she and Tara are having a deep discussion about Tara’s girlfriend and her life in general. Tara explains to Sookie that Naomi, Tara’s girlfriend, has found mail addressed to Tara Thornton and that she wants to know exactly who this said “Tara Thornton” is. Sookie advises her to come clean with Naomi and tell her everything. Then, without warning, Eric appears in the room and Tara completely loses it, spewing every evil thing Eric has done to Sookie and her friends, wondering out loud why Sookie would ever give him shelter, and storming out the door in the process. Eric, disheartened at some of the knowledge he has just learned about his former self walks out the door, leaving Sookie alone on the couch. “Eric, please don’t go,” Sookie pleads as she follows him out the door. She reaches for him and he comes to her, embracing her securely in his arms. Then, can I get a drum roll please… They FINALLY share a very intimate, much anticipated, “real” kiss. How many of you wished that for just a moment you were on the receiving end of that? Don’t worry, you weren’t the only ones!

Meanwhile, Pam goes to Bill for help regarding her recent bout with decomposition and convinces him to have Marnie taken in and questioned. However, this proves to be a failed attempt considering Marnie knows very little of the spells she has cast with the help of an unknown spirit, who Bill later identifies as being Antonia, a sorceress who once lured several vampires from their sleep and into the light, destroying them all in the process. During this conversation Pam accidentally lets it slip that Eric has lost his memory. A confused, furious Bill then demands to know exactly where Eric is. Pam denies that she knows where he is at first, but finally is forced to admit to Bill that Eric is with Sookie. A distressed Bill then flees from the house. Who knows what he might find once he arrives at Sookie’s…

What do you all think he will find upon his arrival at Sookie’s house? (I think I might have a good idea!) And what about Pam? Do you all think that Marnie will be able to break the current spell placed on her? What’s your current favorite storyline? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

Allan Hyde Steps Out:

Back home in Europe for publicity for his new movie “Exteriors”, Allan Hyde attended the “Oslo Girls” premiere with his “Exteriors” costar Marie Kristiansen. If you would like to know what the “Oslo Girls” show is like, you can watch an episode here. Going in for the casual look, as you can see below, Allan felt he “looked like a homeless person”. However, we would like to add that Allan always looks adorable.

(Dagbladet) On Friday, the Norwegian film “Exteriors” gets a theatrical release. It’s about two young girls in Los Angeles (L.A.), who dream of becoming actresses. The desire to be seen is so strong that it comes at the expense of themselves.

“Exteriors” was recorded during hectic days in L.A., where up to 36 manuscript pages were filmed in one day.

Dressing up later for the press conference in his Danish national team jersey, Allan was happy to field several questions about the game itself and his plans to watch it with his friends in the local pub.

We wish Allan and all the cast and crew of  “Exteriors” the very best of luck with their film.

True Blood’s Allan Hyde Movie Premiere:

These photos were taken during the “Exteriors” premiere last Friday night. “Exteriors” is Allan’s latest project done on a shoestring budget in Los Angeles, it premiered in Oslo Norway. The movie details the difficulties in moving from Europe to Los Angeles to seek fame and fortune in the movie industry. This is a subject in which Allan is well-versed. Having splashed into America’s living rooms, with his stellar performance as Godric in HBO‘s hit series True Blood, Allan has struggled to make Los Angeles his new home, seeking new friends and trying to break into the movie business with a Danish accent. Allan is blessed with talent and the freshfaced good looks that Hollywood loves. Hopefully, he’ll get another break soon and we hope to see him back in True Blood; we can’t wait to see him in more shows here in America.

You can watch the interview below:

When Allan was asked about the differences between doing a movie gratis, and acting on True Blood, he said:

“This is something extremely different, but it’s also a super cool
difference, ’cause True Blood is like… Super huge. But it’s that kind
of energy, I think it’s a great energy, and I would much rather have it
done this way, because I have made short films that I have also written,
and tried to get people to be in them, but it’s not the same because every-
one is out for money. I just think it’s a tendency in their culture, that
it’s always a question about money, it’s never ‘well, that could be fun’
or ‘I’ll just do a favor, and I’ll probably get a favor back sometime.’”

Fresh Spoilers for Season 4 from Alan Ball and Cast

Spoilers Galore! What to Expect From the Main Characters:

True Blood PaleyFest 2011Alan Ball and most of the True Blood cast were at PaleyFest 2011, spilling beans left and right.  If you’d like to remain in the dark and be surprised come June, please stop reading!

The scoop on Sookie: Only four episodes have been shot, but she’s already kissed two people.  Hint — neither one was Bill!  Ball assures us Sookie won’t be forgiving Bill any time soon.  Well, no one can blame her.  As you may recall, it was revealed last season that Bill was actually sent Sookie’s way by the Queen (Evan Rachel Wood).  He let Sookie get beat up so that he could heal her, by way of making her drink his blood, thus guaranteeing a bond between the two.  According to Ball: “The betrayal is so deep that I don’t think she sees a way back from that.  That’s why we need 17 seasons!”  In the meantime, Sookie’s learned a few things while cavorting with the fairies.  Just not how to control her “microwave fingers”.

What’s happening with Bill?  Last we saw, he and Queen Sophie-Anne were in full attack mode in mid-air.  The only thing Ball will say is, “There is a bite-off [between Bill and the Queen]. Things happen.  It’s not just the two of them involved”.  Hmm… cryptic, much?

And finally, the lowdown on Eric: to the delight of many, it’s been confirmed he will have amnesia.  How does it happen?  Why?  We don’t know the details, but here is Alexander Skarsgård‘s take:

“He messed with the wrong people, he’s definitely not stable.  He doesn’t know who he is anymore… Eric needs help.  There are a lot of friendly people in Bon Temps kind enough to help.  The powerful character he was is just gone.  He’s the polar opposite of who he used to be.  He’s just completely lost… and very vulnerable.”

The Merlotte’s Gang:

What is the deal with Arlene‘s baby?  Or, as Ball puts it, her “evil” baby?  Rene’s progeny will be born tout de suite, and Terry will become a loving, proud papa.  Says Carrie Preston (Arlene), “That problem grows exponentially”.

Where is Tara Mae?  Thankfully, we’ll find out soon enough.  The old Tara is back in Bon Temps, minus the long hair.  What can we expect from her? Rutina Wesley says, “She may find some happiness, but just for a bit… You’ll find out early on where she’s been”.

Ring ring, hookah, ring ring.  Lafayette‘s gentleman caller, Jesus, revealed himself to be a brujo (witch), and clearly, a spell has been cast.  Whether it’s a literal spell, or Lafayette is simply in love, we don’t know for sure.  But we are certainly looking forward to finding out.

Speaking of lovers, things are looking good for Jessica and Hoyt.  Well, to a degree.  They’ll be facing many obstacles, but at least they’ll be facing them together.  Or will they?  Remember Mrs. Fortenberry?  “Mom is awful”, says Jim Parrack.  The rest of the anti-vamp populace also adds to their problems.  However, according to Parrack, we need not despair.  “Jessica is the one,” he says.

Last but not least, we have Mr. Merlotte himself, Sam.  The poor guy hasn’t had much luck in the love department, but he’s being given another chance.  According to Trammell, “I get another shot.  I’m at bat again.  I think Sam will sober up.”  But leave it to Alan Ball to throw a wrench in things.  Concerning Sam’s sobriety, Ball says, “He can do that for one episode”.  Why would that be?  Ah, remember how Sam shot his brother?  That may come back to bite him in the butt.

As for the Rest of Bon Temps (And Its Environs):

Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) was last seen in Hotshot, delivering a sweet, heartfelt speech.  Entrusted with the care of his werepanther girlfriend’s kin, we can only assume he’ll be doing his “Jason” best.  The only thing we’re going to get out of Kwanten is, “He should not be looking after an entire village of meth addicts — he’s Jason Stackhouse.”

While we’re on the subject of drugs, let’s talk about V — vampire blood.  Who’s it going to affect this season?  If you recall, Andy Bellefleur kept a vial of it, and curiosity’s going to get the better of him.  Oh, Andy.  What kind of mishaps are we going to see now?

Who’s rising from the dead?  Or is it the undead?  The final death?  Whichever one it is, the answer is no one.  We will, however, see Godric again, presumably by way of flashbacks.  Can you guess who else is back, but in the flesh?  The Vampire King of Mississippi, Russell Edgington.  Says Alan Ball, “We have definite plans to bring him back — and he’s gonna be pissed”.

Now for our favorite were, Alcide: Will he be hooking up with Sookie, or is he still not over Debbie?  As for Debbie, Manganiello says, “she’s still alive and at large, so you never know”.  We do know for certain, however, that Alcide will be spending time with Sookie.  Which is sure to set Debbie off.

A few last tidbits from Alan Ball: coming to the show will be “some new witches, new vampires, new humans, a new werewolf, and a child”, and in animal form, “a gator, a rattlesnake, and an attack owl”.

There you have it, folks.  Those are all the official spoilers we have for now, but rest assured we’ll keep them coming.  Who’s excited for Season 4?!

Allan Hyde Talks to Danish Bazaar

The Man Behind Godric Will Rise in Other Films

Though Godric died in Season 2, True Blood fans can’t seem to let him go. As a result, his ghost follows Eric Northman around through much of the 3rd season, while giving good advice to the Nordic vampire. The 20 year old Danish actor, Allan Hyde, recently did an interview with Danish Bazaar where he discussed what he thought about playing the oldest vampire on the HBO hit series, as well as his views on Hollywood and some great fun facts fans may not have been privy to.

The young actor from Valby was on his way to finishing up his high school education when his agent insisted he move to the U.S. He dropped out of St. Anna High School and landed the monster role of Godric on True Blood.

When asked about his new found fame and the perks of being on such a great set he noted,

“I just thought ‘man, what is it that I have gotten myself in!?…It was so great, there were assistants everywhere. I just touched my stomach and there was immediately a person standing next to me who offered me something to eat. I stood up, and they quickly came over with a chair”

The role not only granted Allan access to assistants, but to a whole new world of fans. Allan is simply appreciating the love and support fans have for him. As soon as he appeared on True Blood, his friends request on Facebook jumped to 3,000 people within three days.

Although, Godric died on the show, he has been resurrected through flashbacks. Though he may not be a staple on the HBO series, Allan is still living in LA and has been cast in the upcoming major films: The Hobbit and Pirates of the Caribbean 4. He noted,

“It’s absurd. I thought I at least would be going to acting school to do what I do, but now I get to do it,although I do not have training.”

While Allan is extremely thrilled with his budding acting career, he does miss Denmark and Danish women. He mentioned:

“LA is filled with prom queens who want to be actresses. There are so many superficial and incredibly fake girls, they all look alike – they have just been given a Hollywood makeover. You learn that you rarely get to know people. It’s all superficial. Danish women are much stronger, more available and down to earth. They don’t just have fancy drinks. They may also drink a beer…When you come home and see happy, natural women bike around everywhere, is hard to understand why there is so much hype over Hollywood. Danish women are so incredibly beautiful and honest. They are genuine, and also look real. They do not have that plastic shell, which everyone in Hollywood has. They have character.”

Aside from loving Danish women, there is a lot to the actor American fans may not know. For example, he voiced all of Ron Weasley’s parts in the Harry Potter movies. Since living in LA, he’s kept his diet as clean and natural as possible, eating up to six meals a day. Though he’s tired of Facebook, he admits it’s the best way to keep in touch with his friends and family back home. He has two iPhones, one Danish and one American. He’s never tried drugs and doesn’t see a need to try them. Finally, he would love to wear a pair of red speedos; for him, you’re not really a man if you can’t wear one and walk around comfortable with who you are.

There is no doubt the Allan is strong and has a very focused nature. Fans adore his portrayal of Godric and are anticipitating great things from this young actor. It’s obvious that, although he is only 20, he is smart and hard working.

Preorder Nathan Barr’s Score for True Blood Season 2

True Blood Season 2 ScoreWhen the summer ends, True Blood fans do one thing: try to figure out what to do with themselves until they see a new season of their beloved vampires.

HBO and Nathan Barr have been kind enough to help fans through their fang withdrawal. Why not spend the winter months curled up on the couch listening to the score from Season 2?

The 13 track album is due to hit stores on September 21 and will include songs such as Sookie’s Dreams, Eric the Viking, Hoyt and Jessica, and Goodbye Godric. All the songs were written, performed and recorded by Nathan himself.

The album can be pre ordered at www.varesesarabande.com; for less than $20, fans can relive the most heart breaking or sexiest scenes of the show, while they commute to work or read the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. Whatever the plan is this winter, the Season 2 score is a great way to keep warm until True Blood comes back for its 4th season in the summer of 2011.
