Dawn Olivieri on House of LiesDawn Olivieri, who plays Alcide Herveaux’s sister Janice on HBO’s True Blood, can add another TV appearance to her name, playing Monica Talbot on Showtime’s House of Lies. “[He is] accommodating, compassionate, open and a genius in subtlety and nuance.”

True Blood Cast Members Show Their Support for Actors for Oceans Charity

November 16, 2010

Sam Trammell Co-hosts the Charity Event in Hollywood

Sam Trammell, True Blood's Sam Merlotte, hosts a charity event in Hollywood on November 13, 2010Sam Trammell, who plays shapeshifter Sam Merlotte on True Blood, is an avid surfer, swimmer, and defender of the world’s oceans. His love and respect for the water was very apparent on Saturday, November 13th, when he co-hosted an event for Actors for Oceans Charity, Project Save our Surf. Fellow True Blood cast members Michelle Forbes (Maryann Forrester) and Natasha Alam (Fangtasia dancer Yvetta) also came out to show their support.

Trammell looked very casual and relaxed before heading into the crowded event and talked about how he can see humanity’s effect on ocean life as a surfer because the water is dirty and polluted.

He also commented:

“…hopefully the more awareness and education we can raise, the more people, I think, will decide not to destroy it (the ocean).”

Trammell also gave the crowd a little taste of his musical talent when he sat down with his acoustic guitar alongside Project Save our Surf’s member Keaton Simmons.

Michelle Forbes, True Blood's Maryann Forrester, attends a charity event in Hollywood hosted by former co-star Sam TrammellTrammell’s former co-star, Michelle Forbes, has been on her own crusade to protect the environment:

“It’s important to protect our oceans, our marine wildlife, our wildlife, our land. It’s so important it’s the only world we have and my heart breaks when I think what we have done to it. It’s also important that we give up plastic bottles – no more plastic bottles! It is killing our oceans, it is killing us, as a matter of fact, so that’s something I’m really focused on these days. Looking at our water, our oil spills and the plastic involve – it’s utterly gutting, heartbreaking.”

Alam wowed the crowd in a form-fitting little black dress and gushed about how the ocean has very meditative qualities that she enjoys taking advantage of, especially by walking by the beach.

Getting to Know True Blood’s Dawn Olivieri

June 28, 2010

Although we won’t be meeting her character, Janice Herveaux, until the upcoming Season 3 episode “9 Crimes,” True Blood fans might want to get acquainted with Dawn Olivieri, the fascinating actress who plays her. In an interview with UMM, Dawn shared how she came into acting, and what’s next for her.

Dawn describes herself as something of a gypsy. She has moved around a lot and would probably still be traveling the world if she weren’t pursuing a career in acting. She ascribes to the kind of lifestyle in which “you go wherever and don’t have a lot with you, but you’re happy.”

Her first big role was as Lydia in the most recent chapter of NBC’s Heroes. Previously, she had been working as a model and not having much success with it. Heroes helped her gain confidence, and Dawn says the experience was “a dream and scary at the same time because it was my first role like that. Being someone who doesn’t come from theater, I had to work it out on my own.”

On True Blood, she will be playing Alcide’s sister, Janice. Fans of Charlaine Harris‘ books may know what to expect, but Dawn didn’t want to give many details about her character.

In addition to True Blood, Dawn has several feature films coming out this year: a romantic comedy called Boy Toy; Drop Dead Gorgeous; and Dozers, which she describes as a “fun, campy sci-fi thriller.”

She is also in the early stages of developing her own sci-fi series. Dawn says she has the most fun playing the badass chick. To that end, she’s acquiring a set of skills to make herself ready for action–jiu jitsu training, a motorcycle license, and sword-fighting are some of her current projects.

She looks to Johnny Depp’s career as a model for her own–she’d like to establish herself in television for a few years and then be doing “really interesting, smart films.”

Dawn seems like a great actress to bring to life Janice Herveaux, with the fiery attitude of a protective sister. We will get to see for ourselves when “9 Crimes” airs on HBO, July 11th!

Girl2Watch Features True Blood’s Dawn Olivieri

June 26, 2010

True Blood‘s Dawn Olivieri is featured on What does that mean? I wasn’t sure, either. Turns out, it’s a good thing.

Girl2Watch is a website dedicated to connecting the world with “tomorrow’s hottest stars.” Each week, the site chooses a new actress or personality from film, TV, or the Internet to feature. The chosen girl gets a whole week devoted to her: articles, editorials, videos, the whole thing.

The articles about Dawn are mostly articles by Dawn herself. She answers a few “fun facts” about herself including three favorite movies (Tank Girl, The Last Unicorn, and Shakespeare in Love) and her four favorite TV shows (Heroes, Dollhouse, Californication, and of course True Blood), and a few other random facts.

She also tells the story of how she got the nickname “Dan” when she was younger. It’s a great way to relate to her audience – makes her seem more like a person than an actor.

There are a few other editorials by Dawn where she discusses the type of men she likes and her experience at Comic-Con last year, among other things. There’s also a spot that gives readers different ways to connect with Dawn including her facebook and twitter pages.

If you’re interested in learning all you can about Dawn Olivieri, this is the place to start.

Anna Paquin and Dawn Olivieri in Maxim

May 15, 2010

Anna Paquin and Dawn Olivieri made Maxim’s 2010 Hot 100 list. Both of these gorgeous ladies play in HBO’s True Blood. Anna Paquin, number 84, plays Sookie Stakehouse, who is a telepathic waitress in a small town in Louisiana where the world has just been introduced to vampires.  You may also know her from many other movies like Amistad, Almost Famous, Finding Forrester, The Squid and the Whale, and the X-Men trilogy, since Anna began her fruitful career at the age of 11.  In one of her interviews where she was asked about her character Sookie’s very physically spectacular body, Anna replied,

“For one thing, I have an incredibly good bra. They don’t give me a lot of clothes, but the ones they do are all designed to push, lift, accentuate. The if-you’ve-got-it-flaunt-it method of costuming. Our costume designers are very talented at that. You don’t see much besides the short shorts and waitress T-shirt in the first two episodes, but there are some dresses they’ve built for me that are architecture. No disrespect to my God-given assets, which are quite modest, but they can make a lot out of not so much. It’s hilarious. I’m walking around with what some woman would pay a lot of money to have done to her body. I’m all tan and blond and look nothing like myself, so why not be half-naked with my boobies around my chin?”

I couldn’t have said it better.

Next on the list is Dawn Olivieri, who is number 71, who will play Janice Herveaux in the upcoming season three of True Blood. Dawn is known for her appearances in Heroes, Cold Case, Knight Rider, and Stargate Atlantis. She will soon be starring in Drop Dead Gorgeous.

Congrats to both woman on being so hot!

Interview: Dawn Olivieri – “True Blood’s” New Werewolf

April 30, 2010

The role of Janice Herveaux goes to actress Dawn Olivieri as season three of HBO’s “True Blood” — starting June 13 — brings more supernatural beings into the open, with werewolf Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello) and his sister making appearances.

According to an interview with Runway Fashion Magazine, Olivieri has a raw talent that has her rising in the industry with her portrayals of edgy, mysterious, strong female characters. Her credits include 10 television projects, including “How I Met Your Mother” and HBO‘s “Entourage.”  She appeared in the NBC series “Heroes” in its fourth season and did the voice of Pepper Potts in the animated series, “Avengers.”  This year she’s added at least three films to her resume, including “Drop Dead Gorgeous” and “Dozers.”  And this summer, watch for Dawn‘s debut appearance as Janice in “True Blood‘s” fourth episode titled “9 Crimes.”

Now for some insight into this actress from her interview.

Olivieri said she’s had several special experiences as an actress that she considers achievements.  But rather than keep track of each one, she tries to stay humble and enjoy each moment she has in the profession she loves. She has not had formal acting training and although it comes naturally, Olivieri refers to herself as a sponge and continues to absorb and learn.

When asked what she does for fun, Olivieri responded that she loves the outdoors and travelling. She keeps fit with outdoor sports and activities, such as camping, hiking, some rock climbing and playing beach volleyball. She also enjoys painting, playing the guitar, photography and working with animals.

Several of the responses Olivieri gave to her interviewer were down to earth. Finding endless possibilities for the future, she has no real plans and she values her dreams, memories, challenges and everything else she has in her head. She lives in the moment and seems to truly enjoy her life.

With regard to advice for those trying to break into show business, Olivieri says to tap into what sets you apart from everyone else. In other words, be you.
